This is the ultimate example of everyone doing it for themselves. Only thinking about their own careers. 2 redemption stories too. Bubbles and Carver.
Herc with one final screw up too...

Michael is the new Omar, Duquie the new Bubbles, Carver is the new Daniels, Sydnor the new McNulty, Randy might grow to be the new Prop Joe or the new Avon. And Bunk and Kima are back on the same street that witness got murdered, way back in the very first episode. The more things change...
Marlo also was never the king, and there's some weird solace that the two guys he walks up to don't even know him. They do know Omar, though, and keep telling wilder and wilder stories about him.
This is why this is a show so revered by so many, and I assure you that whenever you watch it again, it might be better, because you get to look back on how the show set up so many things, on some cases with entire seasons of set up.
If you want the connection to the WIre for a bit longer, The Corner is the show they did before the Wire and that inspired it. Many of the actors from the Wire were also there, with their roles switched, so you'll see for example the actors for Lester Freeman and Norman playing junkies. And, for something more recent, We Own This City is a mini series about a corrupt police division within Baltimore. Again, you'll see many returning faces from the Wire playing completely different roles, it's a pretty common thing on every show David Simon does.
Other than that, Generation Kill. It's probably the best show about war to have ever been made.

Marlo had everything dropped on his lap that Stringer ever dreamed about. But Marlo wanted what Omar had, street fame & respect, and he'll never get that.

I think Kenard could be Marlo later. He was the youngest on the corners with so much attitude and then he caught a body once the myth of Omar was disillusioned. Him going into juvie and coming out likely at 18 much more hardened is just gonna set him up to be even more ruthless.

Hey man, thanks for a great ride, and congrats on 1k subs! I don't wanna sound like the old man I am, but I wish more younger people, and writers especially, would watch The Wire. It shows you can make something unforgettable while still writing people and places real, like people actually talk and feel. Good luck on everything in the future!

Just wanted to thank you for this amazing journey! I became a subscriber while you were on season 1 and watched every second of your Wire reactions! Gonna miss seeing you watch this show but glad you loved it! Def my all time favourite show and has amazing re watchability! Thanks for the ride man! I also love how after everything , how the camera lingers on that shot of the city for a long time before it cuts to black , the main character of the show really was the city all along.

Some trivia for you...The actor who plays Scott, Tom McCarthy, wrote and directed the film Spotlight which won the oscar for best screenplay and best film in 2015 or 2016, I forget which... It's about a newspaper investigation into a coverup of child abuse by the Catholic church in Boston. A true story.

Bittersweet indeed. I really appreciated how the show was wrapped up. It's surprisingly easy to screw up finales and there was so much to tie up here plot wise and overall thematically. But they pulled it off. Looking back I think I didn't appeciate Bubbles fully until story was complete and then it turns out he's the hero.
There's many themes explored in the show but one that sticks out to me is the concept of power especially within institutions. Whether it's a gang or a police department, school system, law office, jail, corporation, any political organization, etc; there tends to be a few ambitious power-seekers who are driven by personal ambition without regard to the good of the organization. Who wears the "crown" and how to keep it and how to get it. To this end they use all the chess pieces caught up in the middle. Some of them are just looking out for themself, some trained to be obedient as part of the code, some trying to make a positive change but met with obstacles or pushback. In the end, it's the consumer that suffers the consequences, whether it's a junkie getting poor quality dope, police that think it's ok to beat people up, bad education, watered-down news, etc etc. And it's hard to change a whole system, with it's natural cycles, that's embedded so firmly in society. But there are instances where individuals can make small differences that have some sort of impact at least. I like to reflect on Cutty/Dennis, Major Culvin, Gus...I won't list them all, but for a sometimes depressing show there are some good rays of sunshine

Noah I’m gonna be real with you. Randomly stumbling on your wire reactions months back I didn’t know what to think. Couldn’t tell at first if you even liked the show. Your style def took some getting used to on my part but looking back now I’m embarrassed how long it took me to get fully on board. Def one my fav wire reactors. Appreciate the consistent uploads and your unique perspective. Lookin forward to watching more stuff you react to 👍

Yayyyyyyyyy Noah you completed your first (although possibly not your last) Wire journey 🎉 So glad you enjoyed the show my friend! The fact that this show is still hella relevant and these things are *still* happening just speaks volumes to me. Just an incredible series with an incredible story. There's a reason this show has the well deserved moniker "televised novel". I just don't know what other TV series comes close to The Wire's level I'm sorry. Breaking Bad is my favorite show of all time and even that doesn't match The Wire in terms of ambition and narrative cohesiveness. The Sopranos, GoT, Mad Men, maybe the recently DARK are also worthy contenders (imo) but The Wire just stands out far more compared to them. This is a show that knew how to land the mark. Depending on what you watch in the future you will for sure be seeing me again. There's a lot of yall reactors to keep up with these days chile lml and The Wire is honestly one of *very* few shows I'll dedicate my time to as far as keeping up with reactions and such. You're a great reactor though and your deadpan delivery and tone has become iconic atp 😂 It's also what makes your expressive reactions to certain scenes and moments stand out more. Keep up the good work young sir 👏

Give us your top5 Noah 😊 fantastic show. I would add that wire & sopranos both gain a lot on rewatch but u gotta give it year or 2 before watching again.
I would also recommend Black Mirror, Gomorrah, Forbrydelsen and maybe Six feet under only shows that cured my wire & sopranos "hangover"

      1. Breaking Bad 2. Game of Thrones 3. Barry 4. Better call Saul 5. The Wire/Sopranos. That was pretty hard to narrow down lol. I’ll definitely keep your show suggestions in mind!
