Hi Darwin-My avid hiker husband of 40 years started watching your channel. I subsequently got addicted and after never backpacking in my life, at age 60 suggested he and I start backpacking portions of the PCT over the next few years. After he recovered his senses, we started planning last week. I love your videos and I’m excited to start the adventure! We live in Oregon and hope to bring you some trail angel magic when you pass our way. Take care and happy trails!!
Shout out to hiker heaven!! My americorps team stayed there several times when we did trail maintenance&restoration on the PCT for a few months. Loved agua dulce! L-rod &her hubby are awesome
I've been following you for several years now (no, I'm not a stalker). I just enjoy your attitude toward hiking and life in general. I'm so glad you're doing the PCT. You're a great inspiration.
My 14 year old son and I just finished thru hiking the river to river trail in southern IL. One night we had a couple roll in at 12:45 a.m. and proceed to make a camp fire and argue about how to set up the tent. Much rather camp alone!
Darwin, I want to say how awesome this is, watching you go through the trail. You hit all high the spots and also show the feeling of what is like to be hiking 20+ miles a day. It’s not all happy, happy, joy, joy. It’s also warming to know that many people are out there watching out for hikers and helping with water, snacks...etc. Shows that are good people out there. I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos at the end of the week. God Bless....
Long overdue comment, I usually listen to your videos while driving, I love them. 3y 9m countdown till I retire and commence the Appellation trail. Will be doing a lot of my train up in Hoosier national forest. Thanks for all the shared knowledge.
I discovered your channel recently and I absolutely love what you are doing in life and in TH-cam. Your temperament is wonderful and relatable. I'm thankful that you are willing to share.
I like your style Darwin. You're livin' my dream. The updates of life on the trail are great, keep them coming ! I am new to your channel and have been checking out the videos. I'll be doing a lot more cold and presoaking for my oatmeal and dehydrates. Thanks and Peace to You.
I'm enjoying your journey. your videos are a great mixture of scenery, setup and tear down, foods and just sharing with us. I like knowing how many miles and how your feeling. Its real stuff! thanks for taking us along. stay safe!
I am living vicariously through you brother. One day I'll get out there for a stretch that long. Waiting for things to line up. Thank you for sharing with us.
I love watching your videos. Your commentary is great and I learn a lot about different parts of the trial this way. I haven’t been on a through hike yet but I hope to. I am working my way up to section hiking and until I can do all that enjoying watching your adventures, thank you for all you do to share these w us!
Just found this video.. I worked at that pizza place and remember serving the older gentleman in the green and several others in that tuck. Although I don’t recognize Darwin at all lol
Your videos are really inspiring and the enthusiasm on your face while on the trail says it all. Right on man. Can't wait to see what your adventure is like on the PCT up here in WA.
beautiful locale...enjoy your hike Darwin..stay safe and have fun my man...Im doing mount monadnock (southern NH) this weekend...getting stoked now.....
Hello. Just started watching your videos. I attempted PCT in 95. Guess times have changed. No vlogs then just pics. Great job with videos. Living vicariously thru your videos. Now am disabled and can hardly walk.
Finance and I are heading to the grand canyon for a backcountry honeymoon hike on Tonto trail. Your videos have been an incredible source of knowledge and inspiration. Wishing you well out west with your ankle! Thanks for help in getting us ready for the first of a lifetime of trail adventures.
Great sense of humor: "getting warmer temps", but your in you puffy and knitted hat. But then I've always heard the desert cools down a lot at night, being from Florida, I won't know! Thanks for the tip on Green Belly, I'll have to check them out.
Excellent series of videos. My wife is excited for the snow here in Idaho to melt so we can get back into the wilderness. Today she dragged me shopping for new hiking gear. I'll be sure to tag you in our next hiking video. Get healthy and enjoy your adventure.
Love your videos, beautiful views, can't wait for your next video! You are doing a lot of miles and still share your amazing journey with us. Congratulations on 500 miles! Thanks Darwin.
Great series of videos! I love the way and what you film, the relaxed and quietly positive attitude, and your honest accounting of what you like and don't. Best of luck on the remained of the trail; I can not wait until the next video!
appreciating updates, I'm hitting the JMT SOBO from Conte to Mt. Whitney and looking forward to seeing the conditions out there as you head North. Thanks you got this
I’ve found that the microwaveable quinoa packets were good. They were pre cooked so I never had to heat them up. If you see them at a resupply i suggest giving them a shot!
So glad to see a message pop up new Darwin video out this morning, some great video and for me the music is perfect , We live in The UK and will be getting out on a walk later today .
Stunning views. Sorry your shin in still a problem. uber creepy tunnel. Glad you got to spend a day in Hiker Heaven. Fog is cool! Sleeping in a cloud...nice...in a way. Congrats on great milage even with your shin and on 500! Hiking hot and dry is good at night. Hope that works well for you! Thanks for bringing us along!
Really enjoying the videos, Darwin. I like the way you’re doing them...feels like you’re sharing a diary with us. Very much appreciated, by the way. Keep on keepin’ on, man. Cheers to ya from North of the border 🇨🇦 🙂👍✌️
Aloha, I'm enjoying you video's of your PCT. Sorry the shin is still giving you trouble. They can take a long time to heal. I'm sure it will get better soon. I'm sending you some positive vibes to help you along your way. Vincent
Hello Darwin, thought I’d make 1 suggestion for your PCT episodes. Add a trail map to the video, would help viewers visualize your progress. Take care.
I did the same thing at Casa de Luna! Wasn’t going to go but was early and figured I’d get myself this year’s bandana. You probably don’t remember but you ran into me on trail your first day just before Lake Morena. I’m the strange Welsh woman! I Should be in Kennedy Meadows by the end of this week. Happy trails! From Tic Tac
Good stuff Darwin. Beautiful area. You just hiked past my brother's place. Take care of that leg. Funny, watched Bigfoot's interview of IB TAT at Trail Days and he gave you a shout out....hike on...
If you like hiking in the fog, I suggest you go cross the island of Madeira in April/May Really foggy and beautiful steep mountains... and weird tunnels haha! And by the way how did you make your water bottle strap holder on your bagpack? I think you mentioned it on another video, but can't find it!
I dislike sharing camps but love meeting people in the trail. I worry if I am considerate enough! I want to do the desert sections since I was a marine based at 29 Palms. I want to experience the landscape again just to remember the glory days.
I love the GreenBelly bars. 645 calories in about 5-6oz, and made from ingredients I can pronounce. My favorite is the Peanut/Apricot bar. A perfect balance of salty and sweet, quite filling, and sticks with you. Thanks for sharing your journey with us. :)
Hey man, take care of that shin. Know everybody’s different. Found with a shin stress, I reduce my mileage by 40% and take smaller short little steps. Only increase mileage in 10% increments when sensing definite improvement. Not well served by steady high mileage. Thanks for taking us along with the highs and lows. Greg and Mary
It is so strang that everyone that starts out doing twenties on this trail seems, by some weird twist, gets injured. Luck of the trail or whatever, I dont know. Glad to see that tendon doing better.
Grats on the 500 mark man. Love the scenery out there. Be careful on ur journey tru the ducts, alot of critters prowl at night. Stay safe and good adventures.
LOL... I spent a LOT of time out at Vasquez Rocks while I was still at college at Cal-Arts. It's trippy ;-) Great to see it again, been a long time ! Great episode as always !
Hey. Just want to thank you for the videos. Very inspiring, i love the slow and calm feeling the videos have. Keep it coming. A big hug from a fan from Chile, South America. By the way, you need to come here and try Torres del Paine hiking trail.
Following your journey. Great! What was your start date. What is the date when you post episode 6. You just 500 miles seems like you a really cut through and making time. Prepping for Yellowstone leaving in two weeks. Hope to have reception to follow you.
From missouri so your videos definitely look different to anything I've experienced in my life. Thru hiking looks hard. It's like watching the NFL knowing I'd get killed if I stepped out onto the field. Flag football is as far as I'll get. Love the ozark trail though, hope you'll stop by some day!!
it's interesting following you up on Instagram and then seeing your videos, it's like time traveling with a spoiler warning. thanks for both ways of sharing amazing content. cheers!
Wow..What a amazing place this pct is. Only seen on videos. Once in my life time, would love to hike it.. Maybe part of it though. Inspiration. .... Good luck. Btw..I am from India and would be dream come true if ever I reach pct
It's funny, when I say I'm thinking of doing a 180 mile hike people find that impressive. When I say to them about the PCT or AT through, then I have to go on about them how people manage that (always monitory based). Those trails are life dedication to most.
Your leg injuries, especially in the area you describe, are probably muscular. Anterior tibialis to be specific. Long descents like off San Jacinto are hard on that protective muscle. And you're knocking out the miles!
Great video Darwin, interesting and informative as yours always are. Question: Do you ever encounter snakes attempting to come inside your tent or being attracted to the warmth, have other hikers had that issue, or is that even a concern? Thanks Sir
Late to the party but I love your style of walking and videoing.....it suits me fine. I am also a bit like you a that I can partake a bit of the "scene" but it isn't what I would want to do....I walked the Camino de Portegues last year with a group and I still yearn to go it alone and I will.....I am friendly, just want to be walking. By the way I developed shin splints and I will never walk with out compression sleeves again, painful as heck. I am an avid fan of Dixie and I like her style too.

@@douglasjones9140 Yes! We’ve section hiked portions of the PCT for the past 5 years. It’s been great fun.

Foil pack tuna ranks right up there with the wheel, and electricity, as far as inventions go.

John Dockery good luck dude! You're gonna have an epic time
Are you still planning to do the AT?
I discovered your channel recently and I absolutely love what you are doing in life and in TH-cam. Your temperament is wonderful and relatable. I'm thankful that you are willing to share.
I think Darwin's videos are nearly perfect-he's one of only about 5 hikers I'm consistently following right now.
I'm really enjoying these. Thanks alot sir. It feels like I'm on the trip with you.
I like your style Darwin. You're livin' my dream. The updates of life on the trail are great, keep them coming ! I am new to your channel and have been checking out the videos. I'll be doing a lot more cold and presoaking for my oatmeal and dehydrates. Thanks and Peace to You.
Darwin, really a BIG thanks for posting. Watching your weekly updates supplies way more excitement & anticipation than any NETFLIX original.
I'm enjoying your journey. your videos are a great mixture of scenery, setup and tear down, foods and just sharing with us. I like knowing how many miles and how your feeling. Its real stuff! thanks for taking us along. stay safe!

04:18 That is a truck load and the lady holding on for dear life to that pizza cracked me up.
😂... Pizza is Life!
Hike On,
Darwin
True and I do not have hiker hunger but pizza is the perfect food
"Nobody mess with MY pizza!"
Just found this video.. I worked at that pizza place and remember serving the older gentleman in the green and several others in that tuck. Although I don’t recognize Darwin at all lol
It's giving me anxiety. All those people in the bed with my 2020 mentality
Your videos are really inspiring and the enthusiasm on your face while on the trail says it all. Right on man. Can't wait to see what your adventure is like on the PCT up here in WA.
So happy to see you're still on the trail and that your shine isn't stopping you from getting in some killer mileage! Keep on trekking!
beautiful locale...enjoy your hike Darwin..stay safe and have fun my man...Im doing mount monadnock (southern NH) this weekend...getting stoked now.....

Enjoying these vlogs very much.

Go to his channel and look at playlists. Look in PCT play list and you see it there.

Just a heads up, speciality running stores sell shin splint braces that put some pressure on your shin to help with the pain
keep the faith. soft tissue injury can take a bit of time. keep resting and stretching. also massaging.
Stay safe out there!!

Darwin has never said he had had this problem yet.

Nothing wrong with that tunnel to Escondido Canyon & Vasquez Rocks. There all the time. Nice cool place to rest. Please don't be AFRAID of it.
