  • Ballad and folk. Before emigrating there were those August dance nights in the big top at 'Scotstown Carnival'. Could I have the next dance please and do you come here often! When cool was having a new pair of cowboy boots from Mullan Mills, a 'Carnival' Season Ticket, a zippo lighter and 10 Carrolls in your pocket and of course all the talent descending on the place. Enjoy this campfire style recall of the 'Scotstown Carnival'.😉
    1st Verse
When I was just a caddie - I wished only to go down,
To go and see the showbands - at the marquee in Scotstown.
We'd watch them all arrive - in big wagons and fine cars,
I thought them all so lucky - to be such welcomed country stars.
Auld lads used to tell me - that I was far too small,
And that I had no chance - to see them bands at all.
Well I grew up indeed - and I surely did go down,
To see the showbands playing - at the marquee in Scotstown.
    2nd Verse
Philamena's Country Flavor - did take the auld band stand,
And I keenly watched - her guitarists as they strummed.
Later on when I got home - I checked my auld jam jar,
To see if I'd saved enough - to buy one season ticket.
Next morn I sneaked a tractor - and rode in near the town,
And bought a season ticket - I think it was ten pounds.
Then out to mow more hay - nobody knew I'd worked that trick,
I was ready for them bands - with my brand new season ticket.
    3rd Verse
We were in the marquee Friday night - Saturday and the Sunday too,
And on Wednesday to hear - Brian Coll's Mighty Buckaroos.
We danced til break of day - and then we walked out home,
When in bed I dreamt about the next night - as that was sure to come.
I watched Big Tom's men - as they played their lead guitars,
And the echo sounds they picked - did surely make them stars.
And when he sang - "Shall I ne'r see a more gentle mother",
Everybody sang along - each one louder than the other.
    4th Verse
Larry and his Mighty Avons - were among our favorites too,
And how we envied Micky Brady - on his Fender coloured blue.
When Larry sang he'd lift the roof - no notes he ever missed,
And them Benson's echoed 'round - the marquee oh so brisk.
Now the carnival is long gone - but yes I got my wish,
It never will return again - now it's just a memory bliss.
We got some inspiration - near that bridge below the town,
We don't forget the nights - spent at the marquee in Scotstown.
Yeah............ at the marquee in Scotstown.
