I have been trying to grow a container garden for the past two years. I’ve been trying several different gurus with little or no success. I find whenever I use your suggestions they work. I now use tulle to keep birds and bugs out. I compost like mad. I grow things together and use water from one plant to another. I am doing one thing different. My daughter’s boyfriend discovered I was having trouble bending over to dig as I am 89 and had both hips replaced and one knee so far. He got several used pallets and built me a huge low platform which holds 15 18 gallon totes off the ground and a smaller platform for another 10 totes. The totes are now waist high and I love working out in my garden.

Hi, Pat be very careful to not eat anything of a potato plant other than the potatoes. Leaves and stems are poisonous to eat. When the potato plant starts to grow above ground more and more it will likely block all the sun for the lettuce. You may wish to transplant the lettuce to another container. You’ll see what works for you. Growing food is as fun as Robbie shows us. We just have to learn by doing. Good luck!

Good ideas. This year, I used old cake pans and rusted cookie sheets and put seed packs on them. Put some down in plastic meat trays and plastic drawers from organizers our seed trays were breaking apart and leaking so we used that. Happy gardening to all.

I don't know HOW you keep track of everything. It's amazing how many plants you already have growing outside. And then you're starting hundreds more indoors. Yet, you KNOW where they are all located. Even if I wrote what the plant/seedling is on label, I would still have to hunt around and read all of the labels to find the plant I wanted. You, on the other hand, know each one. Just like they are your children. I bet that Ms Kitty would be so jealous of your "green kids" if you didn't bribe her with broccoli. Ha I LOVE that precious bowwowbaby!

I love your creativity! I would not have thought to put the tape on the lid and container. If I start seeds in a clear container that has a gray lid and put it outside on my covered porch, should I put the lid on it? The end of the porch that I would put it on gets about 5 hours of morning sun. Thank you for another awesome and helpful video!

Growing from seeds indoors….this is how I have experienced:
I did every step right and diligently. Yet, the results were mediocre. Poor germination rate, leggy seedlings, seedling died for no reason, you name it.
When I did not have much hope just threw seeds outdoors. They all came out (90-100% germination rate) and were healthy seedling.
Is Mother Nature playing tricks with me?

I started seeds with paper towels. Forgot about the seed roots intertwining with the paper towels. Sometimes the seeds are too close together. I couldn't lift the seedling without breaking off the root that grew through the paper towel. So i decided to plant the whole paper towel . And decided when they got strong enough for me to space them out. Some worked and some didn't. Learned that the seeds need a be spaced out on the towel...then i can cut/tear each seedling and plant where it has space to grow.. ANY IDEAS

coffee filters: I've tried double layering them on sown soil + stick "spears" on top to hold them in place.
Tulle tip: put sand inside flat-bottomed ziplock hole-less bags then tulle/dirt/seed ontop. Holds water, can see moisture, and much better grow area than bottles.
Best for winter sowing for less favorable growing zones.
I've going to play around with water-proof paper and pencils printer paper as home-made labels ("brand rite in the rain" I've used in the sauna). Just cut to size. Way cheaper, durable. 200pages or so for 30$. AKA lifetime supply and can even use as a mulch top layer like your aluminum or vermiculite.

Great ideas! I grow seeds all year long and in the winter time it’s an indoor crazy seed fest. I have never bought seeds. Every year I go out and collect them and reuse them and that is part of how I make a decent living. I have been fighting with soil and ideas for many years and it wasn’t until the last two years that I decided when I transferred all my 200+ indoor plants to propagation. That I would do the same thing with the seats. It is an absolute life changer! And I don’t mean some fancy publications set up. I’ve been propagating my plants including orchids, yes orchids and money plants you name it it’s in water. I have some with and without small pumps and they pretty much do the same regardless. I will eventually transfer everything to a small pump type fountain setting to help with not having to change water weekly. I had a cup full of Hydrin peroxide a week and that alone cuts down tremendously on any stagnation/algae. I don’t have to worry about overwatering and pests are no longer an issue plus a mess of soil and the wheat. Back to the seeds it’s really simple , lava rock a little bit of water throughout the season, a grow lamp, some moss, and a small pump for extra circulation and oxygen. I grow tomatoes carrots but mainly flowers. I have never been a green thumb. I did not fall in love with plants until five years ago when I rescued my first tomato plant from the compost bin. It was a very magical experience. Since then I’ve become addicted to rescuing plants that nobody wants that are ugly and everybody thinks that are dead but are not. I’ve never paid full price for a plant and save only the ones a mother could love. I appreciate your videos and I just wanted to let people know not to be afraid to try new things. don’t get caught up in the height of having to do this or having to do that. Seeds and plants are so resilient and my plants are like my babies. I talk to them I put their hertz music on every day for them and also that is another key point if you want your seeds and plants to grow healthy and thrive in ways you would not believe put hertz frequencies on at least once a day for plants. If you’ve got a dying plant don’t get caught up on if I watered it or not watered it enough put some music on hertz frequencies I guarantee will turn things around quickly. Ask yourself where the plant is in what part of the room? People get tripped up on too much lighting or not enough lighting but actually if it’s next to a loud television or if it’s in a room with a lot of chaos the plant will not grow as well. Check your environment before you check yourself. You’re doing everything right but it could be certain things are contributing to the plants decline. Plants do not like to be alone they do not like yelling and shouting they are more sensitive than people realize. Like everything more energy and energy is everything. As a psychic medium energy worker that is my entire every day I don’t know only check the water levels I make sure the first thing I do is check my energy in the energies in my space. Clearing and seven well I made my point you have a beautiful day.

My plants are ready to go outdoors! I've got all sorts of greenery popping up...a few are mysteries & like you, some are not growing at all. I saved seeds from my Purple Majestic Pansy last season. Using the paper towel method, I took 8 of the largest seeds. All germinated, but only 3 are growing well. I threw them in w/the Mother plant which I'd cut back all the dead matter from. I did get out to TS earlier today & was amazed they had a few varieties of Pansy in hanging baskets. I couldn't resist the colors...so I got 2 for a total of 6 different colors. As soon as our weather quits going from 90F yesterday to 57F today...I think I can give them a few hours each week {at minimum} of fresh air & true sun. They loved this past wknd. outside, so did the dogs & I.
