@@sam-the-mothman8371 as far as I know they never finished it, it's basically human revolution with wonky controls and lack of content, very short, wouldn't call it bad for an iPad game tho, very decent for a mobile device of the time PD: with " they never finished" I mean they only released like the first chapter of a supposedly longer story
Jesse Rogalski: Yes, and no. It kind of is the worst game in the series, but at the same time, the only real problems with it were: the relative simplicity (slot-based inventory, universal ammo, and less complex biomods) and the lack of roleplaying. The graphics and story could also be a bit goofy at times. And it certainly didn't age as well as the original. Although the original stands the test of time in part because there are some excellent mods out there for it.
@CallOfDrewthulhu I was lucky enough to have it as my first Deus Ex. Kept seeing people say good things about the games. I was in a local used game store, saw IW on the wall, and grabbed it. Played it and really enjoyed it. Then I started looking more into the series and found out that it was the original that people really liked. Sometime down the road, I came across the PS2 version of the original, and grabbed it. It definitely looked and felt more archaic than IW did, but I still indeed thought it was the better game. I come to find out the PS2 port is less than stellar, with cut mechanics and edited levels. I eventually got the PC version and, well, it cemented my love for the series and has been replayed countless times. Have bought and beaten every game/dlc had in the series. Yes, even the PC port of the Fall lol. Slowly going through a new playthrough of the revision mod, actually.
I originally played this on the Xbox. I heard a lot of people at the time talking about how great Deus Ex was. I saw there were two games and, at the time (early teens) I didn't look into games too much. I just knew that there were 2, this was the new one, so just assumed it was better and grabbed it. Loved it, being I was newly a fan of RPGs after falling in love with Morrowind and a couple others, and it being a lot different than most games I've played. After a while I looked into the series and saw people really thought the original was a lot better. At the time we still were clinging on to the most basic of home PCs. Something that chugged playing old school games like Baldur's Gate and Planescape. But I saw there was a PS2 version of the game, so I quickly found a copy. Loved that too. Looked a lot more dated than the sequel, and wasn't as modern feeling, but the mechanics and world were so much better. What I didn't know was it was still a lesser version of the original, with mechanics stripped or simplified, and the world rearranged and condensed to better make use of the PS2s limitations. When I finally got to play the original, properly, it even more cemented my love for it. I really enjoyed Deus Ex, no matter the version, but I literally got to basically play it from worst to best. Sort of allowed me to enjoy the lesser entries in the series more, and for what they were.
I think perhaps the reason your grenades are clipping through the floor is the high frame rate. The physics are tied to frame rate and they go wild when you're over 60
@@solhamer3502 Yes, the game was actually very well liked by people who never played the original. A lot of people who had played the original had extremely high expectations, and Invisible War was very much constrained by the limitations of the Xbox. They could have made larger and more complicated game areas if they had sacrificed graphical fidelity, but then it might have been harder to market the game to people if the graphics didn't look really good I guess. It's a shame that they didn't make it for PC only. The early 2000's was not an easy time to make a PC game, and there was more money to be made in selling console games, so a lot of PC games at this time felt like the PC version was more of an afterthought. However, the Deus Ex formula was really great, and I would have loved to have seen what they could have done with Invisible War if they had had a bigger budget, as well as the freedom to make the areas a lot bigger.
I played it a few years ago, some time after playing through the first Deus Ex, an instant favourite. Knowing about Invisible War's reputation made me manage my expectations from the beginning. And I honestly found it to be a good game in its own right. It's very flawed but does retain just enough of the Deus Ex magic from the original that I enjoyed it thoroughly despite it being a less than ideal sequel. It often feels very different from the original, but it's got its own janky charme. I think it is underrated. Is it a hidden gem? To some extent. It's definitely got character.
Among the Deus Ex games I wouldn't say its the worst. Especially when you remember Deus Ex Go exists. In some ways I think Invisible War is better than Man Kind Divided (even though MKD had my favorite mission in it). IW had good characters, fun and engaging world, a good story that connected well with it's predecessor, and some good choices. I guess I never understood the distaste for it since it was my introduction to the franchise. I know its flawed but those flaws are minor. If you do hate the game but love the series, ask yourself this question. Would you rather have more Deus Ex like IW, or would you rather have more of the same tedious open world, games as service trash that we get today? 20::41 Yes... WAY off the mark. 23:00 Ok, a third to half of this video is just nitpicking. You call THAT a secret ending? It's an easter egg! It something fun that gives you some behind the scenes info in an interactive setting. Easter eggs used to be common in games. I wish they still were. 26:36 and 26:47 I think this guy's two main problems with this game are that we will probably never get another game in the series so this one being the last in the timeline really makes it stick out, and that he played it on pc. The xbox version of this game didn't have some the problems he complains about in the video. Since I have only played the xbox version (will be playing the pc version soon) I never had these problems. The grenades worked well, being a console gamer, Im used to loading gates, and had no issues with the process kills. Yeah, the sniper riffle wasn't very useful BUT, most games have one or two weapons that aren't really useful unless you want to do an odd playthrough focused on them.
Was a Deus Ex lite, the game also felt very alien, compared to the 1st game, I feel like it's like comparing matrix 1 to matrix 2, ones grounded in the world of it's sci-fi, the other turns into a real life anime
Exactly the same. It wasn't quite the Deus Ex sequel I have been hoping for for years, but it also wasn't a franchise destroyer. I absolutely hated a few issues with the game--particularly the ammo, as you mentioned. But I loved it, and I still do.
Universal ammo. If you run out of ammo shooting rockets to take down a giant mech, you e also ran out of pistol, sniper rifle, and shotgun ammo for normal enemies too.
@@CharlatanWonder And combining lockpicks/multitools - it gave the player less choice, and less variety in the level design. Why have a door with a keypad lock, or a maintenance duct behind a keypad when they both use the same tool to open? Might as well do one. Also, because of the console memory limitations this game was claustrophobic as hell.
One immersion breaking feature of so many modern games is the fact that these massive worlds full of intricate details that have been created do not feature a single solitary child. In this game, it is possible for the children / cats / penguins to be killed -something that makes it a more realistic and better game. The original Deus Ex also features children, and they can also die in the game. The school is an Apostlecorp front that is run by a Templer mole who has appointed fellow Templers to the security. You can complete the side quest and save all the children without ever drawing your gun by reporting your findings to the arcology SSC office.
@@luanbui3123 Did you just imply that games are better for having invincible NPC's just so Karen doesn't self-strangulate from so much pearl-clutching?
This is how I started the series, I then played the first game. Compared to the original it's definitely the worst of the two. But on its own, it's still a good game.
Having not played the original Deus Ex extensively, I was able to enjoy Invisible War for what it is: Sociopath's Creed. Admittedly, because I enjoyed the stealthy approach, I got more or less the best experience on my first try. Here are some notable spots from my time with it: - My ammo-conserving tactic was the sword. As such, my mods for buffing it were Strength and Electric Skeleton. - I hacked every ATM and never wanted for money. Because of that, I bought a bought of Black Market mods before finding enough regular ones. - Throwing people under the bus for money led me to the pop-star hologram, and I kind of fell a bit in love with it. That working relationship has best emotional payoff in the game. - I can confirm the problem with overlays, and I'm glad to now know why I had to shut off FRAPS before loading between areas. - I never got the "school-shooting vibe" from the Academy because, instead of getting in a fight with the guards, I handed the evidence to the local police chief. - My weapon loadout ended up being a window-disintegrating pistol, an EMP pistol, the sword, and a tranq crossbow (which doubled as my sniper rifle).
You actually didn't play that dissimilar from me, though I also made use of the railgun that disintegrated people cause that thing was just fuckin cool.
My build was Vision Enhancement (lowest priority), Neural Interface, Electrostatic Discharge, Strength Enhancement and Move Silent (top priproty). I used the baton rather than the sword - it's still a 1-hit-knockout to standard enemies if you hit them in the head. I used stockpiled grenades to deal with the armoured enemies. EMP pistol/baton for the spiderbots, EMP grenades/baton for the big ones. The tranq crossbow is terrible as it takes ages to take enemies down but I used it as my glass breaker as it is inherently silent.
I enjoyed thermal cloak, neural interface, and bot domination. -Trolling Templars at the base of cathedral housing the black gate with the giant security bot. -outside the illuminati compound on liberty island there are two stealth bots, throw one scrambler and dominate the other. Before the timer ticks down to domination, throw or shoot something that will make noise to lure out Chad, nicolette, and their commanders. -at mako ballistics there is the guard dog you can clear the corridors with. -dominating the big bots on liberty island. Many a good scenario to be had.
Yeah I use a lot of melee too. The baton with full strength mods is great to just Jack Bauer people for no reason or just to take their gear. The toxin blade was good too. Not as much damage as the sword, but staggering, and with ED biomod would shut down a camera with one swipe without exploding it and hurting you, unlike with the sword.
This wasn't a great game but it's not nearly as bad as people make it out be. 6.5 is probably about right for the score but this isn't high school English class. That's not equivalent to a D (which is not a failing grade btw). Game ratings have a different scale. The game is mediocre, and that's exactly what 6.5 means. Not bad, not terrible, not trash. Just meh, its ok. But the way people talk about this you would conclude it was the worst game of the year, or decade or ever even. Also that multitool glitch is a weird one, I swear when I played this game way back I never had that issue.
@@arcticshocked I'm not sure what part of america you referring to. But where I went to school (KY) a D will not hold you back. Unless maybe your referring to University grading, but I never go a D there so I don't really know how they were handled.
Well you are wrong about Eidos Montreal not referencing IW in their prequels. In Mankind Divided, I saw a news report (or was it a newspaper?) about how biomodification is a technology of the future and how it will in time replace augmentation. (Exactly what happened in IW.) And there is also that silly penguin achievement in MD ;)
I really like DX: IW but it is certainly the worst of the series (not withstanding any mobile game sort of crap). Some things you could be doing to improve your gameplay: - With Electrostatic Discharge, you can melee laser beam sources to switch them off without spending a multitool. - Use those dodgy multitools that don't stack to unlock any doors/pads in its area. Gets them out of the way, saves proper multitools. - Play on Realistic Mode. Yes, you take more damage (good because it's an easy game) but you also deal more, and headshots usually kill. It makes the silenced pistol even more useful. - Use the SMG with Increased Damage and Fragmentary Rounds. This makes it a power weapon that's useful any time SHTF. - Yeah, don't even bother not insta-detonating grenades unless there's a very good reason. - Use spare grenades, explosive boxes or gas barrels (they produce an invisible explosion when destroyed) to open doors and generally just save multitools. - Make the game a big harder by banning carrying healing items but using the Regeneration mod instead. I've always seen insta-healing in a pause menu as cheap and game-breaking. (In Skyrim, I only ever heal with Restoration, for example.) I must also say that I've had no problems getting the Steam version working (apart from, even with the HD mod, it still won't go widescreen) and the loading times are minuscule, way better than a decade ago when I last played it. My machine now is not even that powerful. I also liked the story a lot: that whole illusion of choice thing hit me very hard. I was so pissed off with the WTO and Order that it spurned me on to go with the Renegade ending (I liked the Omar from a libertarian standpoint, because they, unlike JC Denton, don't force people to join their cybernetic hivemind). And the coffee wars thing was hilarious and poignant, I thought. It's kind of how much of the food and drink industry is nowadays. So yeah. Worst DX game but still a great game. Hampered by console BS, but environmentally very intriguing (I particularly loved Upper Seattle and the Arcology) and philosophically deeper than most other games.
I forgot to mention that I disagree with your analysis of the stealth system. Every game with a stealth system that lacks a "light gem" - people always pan it. But such a tool is not really very immersive, organic or realistic, is it? In IW, simply crouch and stick to the shadows. You will know when the enemies spot something because they will say "Huh?"/"What was that?" etc. They usually don't just start shooting at you with no warning. So it's a good video, but I disagree with a number of your points and think you could have looked deeper into the game and given it a fairer shake in some areas. Still gave you a like and a sub though.
Years later after seeing how awesome the original was I can finally understand why this game - which was quite a gem in the Xbox lineup - could be spoken of with such scorn.
**STORY SPOILERS** you kinda hit the nail on the head when you said that "you are looking at a 2004 game with 2019 eyes." I recall reading something about the development of the first deus ex game where one of the developers said that they wanted to have a smaller map area but have more going on with the map and you can kind of see it in how the level design of this game turned out - highly detailed, lots of revisits to certain areas but with less open areas. You also briefly mention about how "the ending resolves into a choice of a dialog option at the end" but if you recollect, the first game was nearly identical story-wise. You also didn't adequately touch on how well this game stuck to the continuity of the lore- not only did this game mash together the 3 possible endings from the first game really nicely, but it even offered continuity of the previous alliances in the form of the "next generation" of shadow conspirators. If anything, it was intended that you were supposed to "not care" for each of the factions in the early to mid-game because each faction seemed equally unlikable, until you learned their significance of how they originated from the allegiances of the first game. You really underscored (or perhaps even not noticed) the world building and thus the plot twist reveal that billie adams was probably right the whole time - that JC Denton is not the protagonist you remember and got attached to from the first game. Because of this, it makes it clear why the final battle was set up the way it was - if you wanted to fight for individualism - you had to fight against all collectivism of the most prominent heroes of the first game." I mean you were fighting... at the SHADOW IMAGE OF THE STATUE OF LIBERTY for the fate of the human will. Somewhere in your own review you complained that the game was too obvious but obviously, it pulled a sneaky on ya. But that's what a hidden gem is all about, right? Oh, and if you want a more leveled review, check out accursed farms' review of this game and it will pretty much explain away all of the nitpicks this guy made - he's right that there are a lot of flaws, but Accursed farms' actually elaborates on the shortcomings. Also watch "a brief history of deus ex" by Ludodrome for even further background of why a lot of invisible war became what it is.
6 1/2 isn’t a bad score. It’s not the American Grading System. There’s no failing grade. A completely average game would be a 5, irredeemable garbage a 0, and perfection a 10. This is how people should make reviews, but for some reason a 7 is now perceived as an average game. This is why “out of x” scoring isn’t very useful. Everyone scales them differently. It would be better to scale media with words rather then numbers, like “Liked”, “really liked”, “disliked”, “really disliked”, “meh”. That way people can easily grade something by how they feel about it rather then trying to place it on an arbitrary scale. Then if a number is needed the enjoyment can be turned into digits (for my example it’d be 1-5) and then averaged. The scores would be less precise, but everyone would be able to easily score with the same metric, and the written review can always go into more detail. A 7 point scale should be more then enough. Since the fans said this game was below average, on a 7 scale they’d rate it a 3, because it is below the average, 4. Simple. The typical eleven point (counting 0) scale is already more complicated than is necessary.
First time I tried to play this was right after finishing the first one and I was immediately frustrated by UI and never finished the first level. Next time, after some years, I tried to temper my expectations and I got further, but being fully augmented after like two hours with none of black market augs seeming interesting and the ammo system and loading screens getting on my nerves, I gave up again. Screw this game.
I just finished this game a couple of minutes ago. I played on Windows 10, and had practically no issues whatsoever. I didn't even come across any bugs, or grenades clipping, even though I used them alot mid to end game. Then loading screens were annoying, but not long. Also, while I do have some criticism, the story itself isn't that complicated. It just the idea that your able to help opposing factions whenever you want that doesn't make sense. It's a flawed game, but I had fun. In a way, I did like the story. I didn't feel any alliegance to any faction, becouse they were made in such a way that it made you feel uncomfortable to choose a side. They each had their pros and cons, i'm pretty sure you were meant to feel conflicted on which side to choose. I hate games where there is a "Good faction vs Bad Faction". Even games that try to pull this off usually make it obvious that they prefer a specific side. This game just makes everyone seem like their using you. Hell, depending on who you ask, there really is no good ending. All 4 endings give you a sour taste in your mouth. Yet, I love the fact that they do this.
I also had very few issues with this game, even back on original xbox. I didnt know grenade clipping was an issue. Also the faction reasoning is hinted at the first "arc." In that, basically, Denton has been orchestrating this thing. Every faction is ultimately a pawn of some larger faction that ends up tieing back to JC
I fuckin’ loved this game on my first 3playthroughs on the X-Box,it has probably aged poorly but this was FAR from a bad game!Invisable War was a much more open game in the decisions compared to human revolution but I love Human Revolution aswell in a different less FPS/RPG type game & more of a FPS/stealth game!both great games in different ways!
I would totally argue this is a hidden gem, as I liked it a lot when I first got to play it in 2012, one year after I played DX:HR. Graphics for the most part holds up well a decade after its release (and watching this video convinces me that it's still holding up well with some nice lighting and shadows). Sneaking around exploring with all your stealthy abilities and gadgets was as fun as in other Deus Ex games. Story comes with some nice twists as well. Yes I know the last chapter was a disappointment and I understand others' complaints about its level design. But it's still one of my favorite RPGs ever.
I was foolish enough to buy this at release, and it's atrocious. Its narrative and characters are kindergarten versions of the original. And mechanically it's a dumpster fire. Even the main character looks like a douche, complete with aiming his gun ghetto style on the cover. The quality of this game can be summed up with one simple fact: You had to edit an .ini file to resize the UI for PC. Full price game, sequel to one of the most well received games ever, good reviews in the press etc. And that was a thing. If a game were to be released in the same state today, I bet everyone defending this turd in the comments would rip it to shreds.
I think it still had some cool ideas. For instance, one of the melee mods that gave you EMP strikes - that was pretty awesome for taking out laser beams and stuff.
Oh man, I remember when I first played this and discovered the magic of disposing of ragdoll corpses.... That one mechanic made up for a LOT of Invisible War's short-comings. It really did create a lot of memorable moments for me, despite having more simplistic writing and smaller maps to meet the needs of consoles.
I enjoy my time with Invisible War , I enjoy more than the original one . From an outside perspective for from someone who never played a Deus Ex game, Invisible War its a much better experience than the first one , I like the first the one, but I not part of the "masterpiece club" that like to praise so much that is complete blind by its flaws , a lot of people talk about IW begin bad but they never even played , they just reapet what others say . And about the school part you don't need to direct confront the school director ,you can report him for the SCC Chief (local Police) and he will be arrested , you don't even need to have a big brain to think in that ,you will pass by the Chief whend you enter in the level and you find a note in the director's room saying how he is worriedabout the Chief Security because he dosen't like the Templars. And my theory about the lockpickng inventory bug is , I think is two differents itens with two differents adress code so because of this it dosen't stack , but since all lockpics are manually placed in the world you can't just change the adress code, it will dissapear or create errors. I think people should give a chance even for its flaws it's a fun game and the only direct sequel we ever had so far.
I enjoyed the hell out of Deus Ex 2, I never payed attention to what other people were saying but I know I liked it. I wasn't fond of some of the changes they made with augments but it was a cool game overall. I think my biggest disappointment was the screenshots they were showing in mags and whatnot leading up to the game were way better looking than what we actually got. The best thing was the addition of ragdolls
The only reference to IW in HR may be the shop guy on the drilling platform in HR DLC. The one, who keeps calling you "bratan". Bratan is russian for "bro" btw. So him being russian and being heavily augmented to the point of switching faces, and Omar faction coming from russia and being heavily augmented may be the link. Also, his and Omar speech resemble each other in a way.
the same unreal engine variant was used in thief deadly shadows and it has the same technical issues, like bodies clipping through ground but the worst thing is, sometimes a key objective item would disappear into the abyss making you reload a save.
I consider this game one of the best scenario and ambiance, I really loved to play DXIW BUT, there are still many flaws, the first one is about the graphics and very small levels
I don't remember much from this but the lighting effects I thought were cool at the time, some cool ragdoll physics and the fact I could murder two children on one of the levels which I found to be rather fetching.
i played both of these games arround 2013 for the first time in my life and enjoyed both of them for what they are but can definetly see how someone back in the day would have been pissed
I find its problems partly a product of its time: fixed graphics pipeline, awkward physics, a goofy early 2000s sci-fi aesthetic, and needing to be shoehorned into limited early-gen consoles.
Honestly I love this game. It’s far from perfect and it’s definitely not as good as the original but I still enjoyed playing it again about 2 years ago. I remember the Ion Storm forums at the time this game launched and it was a shitshow.
God i hate how people cant rate. a 5/10 is avrage 0/10 and 10/10 dont exist 6/10 is above and 4/10 below avrage 7 is good 8 is fantastic and 9 is Game of the century.
So this game was my introduction to the Deus Ex universe and for better or worse, this game will always have a soft spot in my heart. As a kid, I didn't have the patience to get immersed in the nonsensical story. The only stealth I knew in video games was Metal Gear Solid, so getting to play a game with stealth tactics was pretty dope. Oblivion pretty much blew the top off for me with stealth but I acknowledge the general fact that stealth tactics were around in earlier games (original Fallout comes to mind, for example or even Planescape Torment). This game was one of the first games I bought with my first paycheck from my first job at 15 years of age. Did this game age well. Errr no. Is it worth another play-through during a break? Maybe. Great video man. I'm super glad I found your channel!
about the no censequences thing. a funny thing happened to me in human revolution, where i had to get to the morgue to get the implant of this hacker guy and i "acidentally" killed every single person in the precinct. never had i even heard a word from anyone. outside the police wasn't even hostile towards me
I don't know about worst of the series but it's a poor sequel. I still play it from time to time though. It's a fun enough stealth game overall but the deep customization of the first one is absent and then the universal ammunition. Those were incredibly dumb design decisions and had console written all over them, and they were indeed called out for it at the time by fans and critics.
My first approce to Deus ex. Its really a good game, as all of games, its incomplete by how A.i works to artificially movements inside conversations. But left these, the story line its impressive and also, Unreal Engine do the best in gameplay. My vote was 7.8/10....
Lol! Everything presented in this review is pretty spot on, however I'm still glad to have played it though! With the game patch & unofficial visible patch with the built in upgraded textures, including using the Eragan upgraded map textures & the Vibrance app ( instead of using the ReShade app which would not work in this game for me. ) I thought the game looked pretty good for a 2003/2004 old game. Biggest gripe definitley was the 45-60 seconds loading screens by far while playing on a 5800x/3080ti/Nvme drives Win.10 Pro. .. BTW, you could carry as much stuff as you want by removing an item from one of your inventory storage spots, sliding it off to the side then push ESC, look down on the ground at the item you want to pickup n do so. Rinse n Repeat for more or other items. ;)
I had to basically play through the entire game using nothing but the sword. This is because not every enemy drops ammo, and since every gun uses the same ammo (with the better guns using almost all of it in only a few shots), that made ammo more scarce than in a survival horror. To this day, I still question if there was something I was doing wrong.
I'm currently playing this, just after finishing the first game. It's okay, if not a bit boring, due to the lack of character progression and dumbed down gameplay. Will still finish it, since it's quite short, but I wish it was as engaging, even if different, as the rest of the series.
I bought this on the original XBOX when it came out, and it was my first Deus Ex game. I remember liking it. The lighting and atmosphere was superb, and I thought the story was interesting as well. Now I've played the other Deus Ex games since then and of course the first is by far the best and will likely never be topped.
After your little grandstanding about video game journalism (Jesus Christ), I dunno, i really enjoyed this game despite its flaws and don't see an issue with it getting a 7 or 8 out of 10.
I don't think this game was that bad, I think the hard time you had capturing footage made you shit on it harder. This was my first deus ex and I played it on the xbox when it came out, thought it was great and it got me into the series.
I think the biggest tell is that I can't remember the story at all, on the other hand I can tell you all the details of the first game, a game I haven't played in almost 2 decades
If you play as female Alex, there should be different dialogue and other characters reacting differently like hitting on you. I also think they should've added one more ending option of Klara if you play as male Alex or Leo if female asking you to forget everything and go into hiding together, no more secret societies and no more transhumanism conspiracies, resulting in another great collapse but better than the other endings.
just a hint to anyone else who decides to play this, the emp strike biomod (the red lightning bolt biomod seen in the video) will allow you to deactivate laser sensors with melee weapons
I bought this game when it was released and it felt like a rushed disappointment that was catering to consoles, just like so many other trash games these days.
I've been waiting for 20 years to pass OG deus ex, for whatever reason never really finished it I would just loop new game until chinatown. Currently in last mission; kinda don't wanna pass it, but I also want to play invisible war which is the only one I've never ever touched. I know I'm gonna love it; hell I love the eidos games, maybe even more than OG since it really got me into everything. Can't wait to spend another 20 years trying to pass another DX game lol.
Must say I disagree, it's unusual for me, but I really enjoyed the story and atmosphere. NG resonance was a really cool idea and yeah for some reason I think it's pretty great
mmm, did you own an old Version? Because Steam version runs pretty well with out glitches and looks a bit better. Still the weaker of Deus Ex Games, but, bug free in my own experience. (except that lock pick bug)
THE FALL obviously does not count for me as a candidate for worst DEUS EX, since its simply a mobile game ported to PC, like G0; but when even the director of lNVlSlBLE WAR, HARVEY SMlTH, literally admits publicly during 1 of his interviews that he & his team fucked-up practically everything related to it, well- that already clearly shows red flags regarding lNVlSlBLE WAR, man!
Even though Deus Ex is hailed as a classic, there was a moment that broke the game for me when an MJ-12 soldier tells JC that the terrorist group SIlhouette is hiding somewhere in the sewers. Then you go down a corridor, turn a corner and... there they are. This felt so stupid that I couldn't take the game seriously anymore. But then it wasn't a LGS game to start with.
@@MildMisanthropeMaybeMassive the libertarian choice was the Omar. Denton offers no choice before he subsumes the entire species into his Brave New World AI microorganism.
@@MildMisanthropeMaybeMassive Yes, but they don't force the entire world to join up with them. There is, in theory, a choice - therefore it is more libertarian.
Of course I love this game. It has nothing to do with my name. The one of the cool thing about this game is that you can change out your augmentations. So if you get sick of using the night vision , as long as you have some new bio canisters, you can switch over to the regenerating augmentation. Also I really like the robot domination augmentation. I think that’s a pretty cool idea and I love throwing a spiderbot down and then using the bot domination on it to take care of some of robots and cameras. Of course it has horrible voice acting by some of the NPC‘s. I really wish that someone could redo this game or make a mod for the original DX.
Honestly, the entire time you were critiquing the gameplay and plot of the game I was expecting you to go "and that's Deus Ex. Now, for Invisible War..." because nearly all of the annoying bullshit in this game comes directly from the original. This one's implants are generally much more useful though. And as shit as the universal ammo is, at the very least firearms are something of a reasonable choice unlike in the first one, where the optimal choice is to GEP and lightsaber your way through the whole thing without wasting a single skill point in weapon skills.
@@penttikoivuniemi2146 Yeah, you would know what that's like. Your eyes are too blind to see IW for the mediocre game that it is. Do you have an actual argument? Cause if you do, I would love to hear it bud.
@@danielwilson2185 Do you, BUD? You came up to me to challenge my opinion, you should be the one to try and convince me otherwise. But whatever, I'll play with you, PARTNER. IW is completely mediocre without any shadow of a doubt, never said otherwise. What I did say is it inherited all of its garbage from the original. I said the original Deus Ex is an equally broken game that people refuse to see for what it really is. Sure, it's got cool level design, but that's all it has going for it. CHUM The plot is deliberate conspiracy theory nonsense, the gameplay is clunky scuff, you have annoyingly limited inventory space which means you will only carry the lightsaber and the GEP, the augments are divided into practically necessary and practically useless, the stealth augments make you completely invisible to either humans or machines the same as in IW, the skill point system is pointless as all you should ever put those points into is hacking and lockpicking, decision making eventually boils down to whether to blow up a door or pick its lock, you literally choose the ending from three choices right at the end no matter what you did before that just like in IW. What of the above is untrue and why, FRIEND?
@@penttikoivuniemi2146 You're the one who posted your shitty comment first. I'm just calling out your bullshit. Deus ex is far better than IW. The good stuff dx1 had, IW removed and dumbed down. It has far more than cool level design. The story is one of the best ever made and it's even more relevant than ever. Few other games have come close this relevant. The "what if everything conspiracy was true" may seem silly on the surface, and some of it is. But it gets deeper the more you get into the game and it gives a lot to think about when it's over. Your inventory nitpick sounds like a skill issue. The grid inventory works fine. You can put stuff anywhere you want and organize however you want. IW should've just copied it tbh. The inventory was limited by design. You have to think about what you want and don't want. I will agree that some augments in dx1 were useless. But to say that IW did the same thing is false. Dx1 had invisibily to humans OR machines. You had to choose one. But IW gives you both so you can be invisible to everything. So no, it is not the same. So the other skills are useless? Specializing in a certain type of gun is useless? Having choices on your character build is useless? Giving you choices on how you want to roleplay is useless? Getting rid of skills and being perfect at everything from the very beginning of the game and having no choice at all is somehow better? Ending has never been Deus Ex's strong suite. The series has never been good with endings. But at least in dx1, the endings made sense for the story they were telling and it gave you something to think about. All 3 ending have argument's for and against them. And you had to do something for the ending you wanted. For example, hacking a certain computer for the helios ending. The endings were short, and the aftermath was ambigious, but it was satisfying and the story felt comeplete. IW has it worse cause you literally go to a computer and choose your ending. You could literally choose whatever ending you want regardless of what faction you sided with.
Thanks for the video. It's good to see an objective view. It takes me back to March 2004. Deus Ex: Invisible War disappointed me. It had some very nice story ideas built upon the original. However, it was seriously let down by the creators ignoring what worked in the first game especially around character building and the simple fact that it was a PC game. Between universal ammo, a disastrous UI (for the PC at least) removing the skill system and frustrating and poor port to the PC, it was rather doomed. Appealing to the lowest common denominator means there is nothing particularly original, remarkable or different about it. It was a decent Deus Ex flavoured game rather than being 70% Deus Ex solids.
this was a console game made to be play with a controller, and then ported over to the PC which made the PC version that I play terrible and never touch again after I finish it
Another flaw in this game is the lack of lore, deus ex invisible war takes place after "the Great Collapse" which led, among other things, to the internet being disabled, as a consequence there are no computers you can access in order to read emails, while the previous one has hundreds of emails that greatly expand the story and the characters.
The worst is Deus Ex the Fall, actually.
That's the mobile phone game right?
Remi Lafleur it has been ported to pc but I haven’t heard anything good about it
the fall was badass on the iPad bro
Having to use an ipad game to compete for the worst is not doing IW any favors.
@@sam-the-mothman8371 as far as I know they never finished it, it's basically human revolution with wonky controls and lack of content, very short, wouldn't call it bad for an iPad game tho, very decent for a mobile device of the time
PD: with " they never finished" I mean they only released like the first chapter of a supposedly longer story
Worst of the series; but the worst of Deus Ex is still better than many games released.
Jesse Rogalski Its kinda like The Godfather Part III. Worst film in the trilogy but still better than a lot of movies and most threequels.
Jesse Rogalski This
Jesse Rogalski: Yes, and no.
Instablaster...
As a kid, I reviewed this game for my school newspaper.
Aw
It looks so much like an Original Xbox game, everytime I look at a screenshot or gameplay vid, I think of 2003
I originally played this on the Xbox.
The physics are tied to frame rate and they go wild when you're over 60
+1
I was gonna say the same thing cause I don’t remember that ever being a problem on my Xbox.
I played the game at 144fps and that never happened to me tho, but to be fair he is playing it at unlimited fps so he gets inconsistent 200-300fps
Yeah, I've never had this happen before.
Why/ how does the frame rate affect the physics?
I never understood how that works
Like how frame rate affects Music pitch?
3:56
"The sniper is useless"
What the fuck are you smoking? It's a 1shot kill from the get-go and it doesn't eat up a ridiculous amount of ammo.
This was seriously... one of my most favorite games ever. Didn’t age that great, but I played the shit out of it as a kid lol.
Same! I love this game. I just booted up my old XBox a few months ago for a replay.
@@IkariRecca Me too! Except I purchased it on Steam, as I've transitioned mainly into PC gaming.
Yeah I loved it too.
Same bro. I think I appreciated it more for not playing DX1 first, so I had no expectations by which to end up disappointed.
Runs the game at around 300 FPS, wonders why he's having physics issues.
My biggest gripe with it on release was how much it felt like a massive console port, plus the ammunition mechanic.
@Stefano Pavone Imagine your fists took universal ammo too 💀
You know it's bad when a map that was one seamless map in the first game is now split into 4 parts for the sequel. Ugh.
19:40 Damn I couldn't give less fuck.
So shooting your way anywhere is cool but not in a school stated as a cover for a belligerent faction ?
One immersion breaking feature of so many modern games is the fact that these massive worlds full of intricate details that have been created do not feature a single solitary child. In this game, it is possible for the children / cats / penguins to be killed -something that makes it a more realistic and better game. The original Deus Ex also features children, and they can also die in the game.
The school is an Apostlecorp front that is run by a Templer mole who has appointed fellow Templers to the security. You can complete the side quest and save all the children without ever drawing your gun by reporting your findings to the arcology SSC office.
slowerthinker Ah, that's what it was. It's been years since I've played it but I definitely don't remember finishing that mission the way he did.
Wait, did you just write that killing children makes this a better game.
@@luanbui3123 Did you just imply that games are better for having invincible NPC's just so Karen doesn't self-strangulate from so much pearl-clutching?
@@solhamer3502Who’s this Karen? Why is she hurting herself with pearls?
This is how I started the series, I then played the first game.
Compared to the original it's definitely the worst of the two. But on its own, it's still a good game.
Having not played the original Deus Ex extensively, I was able to enjoy Invisible War for what it is: Sociopath's Creed. Admittedly, because I enjoyed the stealthy approach, I got more or less the best experience on my first try.
Here are some notable spots from my time with it:
- My ammo-conserving tactic was the sword.
The coffee shop side quest was moreso showing the corruption of capitalism and megacorperations not really foreshadowing the main plot
Played yesterday. Got this glitch all the time (played for 4.5 hours - never again).
It depends where you are from. in America, D is absolutely a failing grade.
Some things you could be doing to improve your gameplay:
- With Electrostatic Discharge, you can melee laser beam sources to switch them off without spending a multitool.
(In Skyrim, I only ever heal with Restoration, for example.)
I must also say that I've had no problems getting the Steam version working (apart from, even with the HD mod, it still won't go widescreen) and the loading times are minuscule, way better than a decade ago when I last played it.
I loved this game. Played through it as a brawler of sorts with that baton and some shock grenades. Those poison guns were pretty legit
Yeah melee was lots of fun in this
i swear i encountered a glitch that was basically a short series of voice actor bloopers from one of the Omar merchants
this is what developing crap for horrible garbage of a hardware platform does to your game
7:17 Oh OUCH, I wonder which bio mods he went with that he couldn't stand
Hey come on, you can't walk on eggshells all the time when creating things, regarding the school-thing. Shit happens, all over the world.
I like IW even if it's the "worst" DX. Besides, we got The Fall to laugh at and it's definitely worse than IW.
I don't get the hate for Project Snowblind, take it as a gimmicky "almost-cyberpunk" FPS and it's OK.
LOL the coffee quest was the best thing about the game. Don't you dare diss the coffee!
NG Resonance was a bitch, though.
Ye invisible war and Deus ex are amazing FPS/RPGs, human revolution is one of the best Stealth games I’ve ever played
I played this on the original Xbox back in the day. It was my first Deus Ex game and I f'ckin loved it
I was foolish enough to buy this at release, and it's atrocious.
23:33 - I know that music but I cannot for the life of me remember the name. Can someone tell me? The melody is stuck in my head...
I think it still had some cool ideas. For instance, one of the melee mods that gave you EMP strikes - that was pretty awesome for taking out laser beams and stuff.
^this guy gets it. OP doesn't because here is wasting multitools despite owning the mod LoL
Played this game on xbox and it's still in my top 3 favourite games ever
Same! I love this game! And I love the twisty plot reveals. It's actually my favorite of all the DE games.
It's a repayable romp.
I loved the game as a teenager, even though it had major cardinal sins (level design, gun "mechanics", Star Trek-ish aesthetics, ...).
I enjoy my time with Invisible War , I enjoy more than the original one .
From an outside perspective for from someone who never played a Deus Ex game, Invisible War its a much better experience than the first one ,
I like the first the one, but I not part of the "masterpiece club" that like to praise so much that is complete blind by its flaws , a lot of people talk about IW begin bad
but they never even played , they just reapet what others say .
Invisible war is a guilty pleasure of mine.
i know its not super good.
but i still like the charm of it.
"Faults sound design" What? How could that be the cause for most of these issues?
I enjoyed the hell out of Deus Ex 2, I never payed attention to what other people were saying but I know I liked it. I wasn't fond of some of the changes they made with augments but it was a cool game overall. I think my biggest disappointment was the screenshots they were showing in mags and whatnot leading up to the game were way better looking than what we actually got. The best thing was the addition of ragdolls
Always love your videos, you deserve more subs!!
I consider this game one of the best scenario and ambiance, I really loved to play DXIW
BUT, there are still many flaws, the first one is about the graphics and very small levels
It's funny because I just replayed this game last month to find out if it is as bad as I remembered...sadly, it pretty much is.
Invisible War imo is pretty good I enjoyed it at the time when it came out but its super lackluster compared to the first game.
What did you do to the aspect ratio? Are we playing in fatland?
I applied the fanpatch
About the headmaster at the Cairo academy, if you go to the SSC station and report him, he'll be arrested.
I absolutely love the fact you have no intro! Keep it up:)
Played it when it first released and loved it,might not be the best one out there but its a great immersive sim.
God i hate how people cant rate. a 5/10 is avrage 0/10 and 10/10 dont exist 6/10 is above and 4/10 below avrage 7 is good 8 is fantastic and 9 is Game of the century.
the sniper rifle is easily the best weapon in the game.
I'm super glad I found your channel!
about the no censequences thing. a funny thing happened to me in human revolution, where i had to get to the morgue to get the implant of this hacker guy and i "acidentally" killed every single person in the precinct. never had i even heard a word from anyone. outside the police wasn't even hostile towards me
the only bad thing about Invisible War is the universal ammo mechanic other than that it's a good game
He got lost with the plot?! Sorry its not simple enough
The entire story of Invisible War is a complete mess. Starting with all 3 endings of the original are present like what the hell
project snowblind video?
Rinse n Repeat for more or other items. ;)
I never played the o.g trilogy, and thought IW was ok...
Enabling the experimental multicore support in the visual enhancer mod speeded up the loading screens a lot for me.
Keep in mind the loading screens you faced when playing this on a modern pc is likely 10 times faster than on the original xbox
That's.... stupid
What's Shadow Play?
just a hint to anyone else who decides to play this, the emp strike biomod (the red lightning bolt biomod seen in the video) will allow you to deactivate laser sensors with melee weapons
Good video brah! And nice cat lol
5:20 - That FOV is killing me
Even though Deus Ex is hailed as a classic, there was a moment that broke the game for me when an MJ-12 soldier tells JC that the terrorist group SIlhouette is hiding somewhere in the sewers. Then you go down a corridor, turn a corner and... there they are. This felt so stupid that I couldn't take the game seriously anymore. But then it wasn't a LGS game to start with.
The only Deus Ex i can play; the other chapters don't tell me anything
First you must ask "is this fun or frustrating?" Then ask "what is frustrating?" Then ask "what could the game be better to make it more fun?"
Loved the Helios ending - fully automated luxury nanite communism ^^
I saw it as automated libertarianism.
@@MildMisanthropeMaybeMassive Not really
@@MildMisanthropeMaybeMassive the libertarian choice was the Omar. Denton offers no choice before he subsumes the entire species into his Brave New World AI microorganism.
@@solhamer3502 The Omar is also a hive mind.
Worst take ever. Try harder next time bud.
@@danielwilson2185 Looking right at the Sun hurts, I know.
CHUM
The plot is deliberate conspiracy theory nonsense, the gameplay is clunky scuff, you have annoyingly limited inventory space which means you will only carry the lightsaber and the GEP, the augments are divided into practically necessary and practically useless, the stealth augments make you completely invisible to either humans or machines the same as in IW, the skill point system is pointless as all you should ever put those points into is hacking and lockpicking, decision making eventually boils down to whether to blow up a door or pick its lock, you literally choose the ending from three choices right at the end no matter what you did before that just like in IW.
"It's time to cut the grass"
(Was that this game? I can't remember)
Galvanized Dreamer yep
Thanks for the video. It's good to see an objective view. It takes me back to March 2004.
Deus Ex: Invisible War disappointed me. It had some very nice story ideas built upon the original. However, it was seriously let down by the creators ignoring what worked in the first game especially around character building and the simple fact that it was a PC game. Between universal ammo, a disastrous UI (for the PC at least) removing the skill system and frustrating and poor port to the PC, it was rather doomed. Appealing to the lowest common denominator means there is nothing particularly original, remarkable or different about it. It was a decent Deus Ex flavoured game rather than being 70% Deus Ex solids.
this was a console game made to be play with a controller, and then ported over to the PC which made the PC version that I play terrible and never touch again after I finish it
Played the ever lovin heck out of this as a kid. Bit scared to tarnish those memories
Another flaw in this game is the lack of lore, deus ex invisible war takes place after "the Great Collapse" which led, among other things, to the internet being disabled, as a consequence there are no computers you can access in order to read emails, while the previous one has hundreds of emails that greatly expand the story and the characters.
