HOW TO EDIT GOPRO MAX
In this Jake Rich editing tutorial you'll learn how to edit your gopro max footage on both desktop and mobile using the gopro app and the gopro player for mac. One of the coolest new features of editing gopro 360 content is the ability to create free time keyframes which enables allows editors to pause time whilst rotating the videos perspective. Great video! Now, GoPro could very well be a branch of Apple, because everything is thought and developed for Mac and iPhone users. If you have Windows, FORGET about any GoPro apps to reframe/edit Max videos (you have to use Premiere); if you want to use your Android phone, prepare to get frustrated, as exporting the reframed video takes a lifetime and, in my experience, cuts the video short so you lose a good chunk (in my case over 70%) of the footage you had reframed.
Now actual video creator uses Windows in the first place, so no probs.

Its rotation (Hold ctrl) as in hold the control key and drag to rotate. Love the vid man! Just a funny thing I noticed

Please make a video on gopro settings for different situations like vlogging, action shots, cinematics etc ( if you already have one which video is it?). And then how to take them and edit them to look good as far as color correction and grading. I just got the hero 8 and I am having trouble making the video look good in post. They all look bland and some times have a lot of noise in it making it look terrible. I dont know if it is because of my settings or what but an in depth video on this would be great! I am really wanting to make high quality travel videos like yours and Chris rogers with the hero 8 :D

@@arthurfromtorontothis video was uploaded 4 years ago. The software mentioned in it is no longer available. I am using the gopro player for PC for reframing, then using the free version of Capcut for final editing.

first time user and im sitting here going through footage on the gopro player on windows and i dont see the freeze time button. everything else is present. did they discontinue the freeze time option?
I just think as superior windows users got shafted with the feature :(

the link to the GoPro Player gives me an error page... But I searched for the app and downloaded it. Question: My footage when looking at it in the app looks like crap rez wise... Is this a camera setting I need to adjust before shooting or did it import at lower res for editing? Not sure how to fix this but the images are FAR from sharp. Any thoughts?

@@jaredfuentes6313 Yes actually. The file path should not contain anything but English letters. I know it sounds crazy but it really is the solution. Just make sure every single folder which leads to your file is named using the English alphabet. The gyro data really depends on this. Hope it will help you!
@@jaredfuentes6313 But my advice is, get rid of the GoPro Max and get yourself an Insta360 One X2. I've had it for a year now and NEVER had such stupid issues. It's just amazing, it's so simple to use and the quality is great. Check out my 360 vids on my channel to see it for yourself.

I have Android, but in the app the stop watch is in the "studio" choice and it only freeze the spot, it does not give me the chanse to rotate or anything else, it just freeze it... Is there any solution to freeze the video but rotate the spot from some other way on Android device as you did it in your video?

Hello Jake, thanks for the great tutorial. Me I’m working on Mac with FCPx and I Found quality turns shitty once the files are edited in FCPx. Dunno if this is a well known problem. First I found rendering on the iOS app lead to higher quality than GoPro player on Mac. Since the latest update they are kinda similiar. Workflow is: take 360 file, render it, export it and import it to FCPx to a 1080p project. Man, The quality of the pic goes really Hero 3rd gen once in the viewer. A side by side with Max Hero mode with same settings on the shoot is mind blowing. The hero mode video is crisp, bright and colorful whereas the 360 goes dark and blurry. Any ideas or recommendations? Any help is highly appreciated.
Hi Jake, I am using Max too, but also uses it for Blogging, and Voice quality is the only area I am struggling, can you suggest anything, since it any external mic is not supporting go pro MAX...Any suggestions would be amazing
Use your Phone and sync the audio from
both in your editing suite or get the rode wireless go and do the same

Awesome video Jake! I don't know if you mentioned that GoPro has not finished the Window's GoPro player application so Windows PC's owners will not be able to edit on their computers yet. This is on GoPro's website when you try to download the software. It is confusing to me since windows PC's are 77% of the computer market but, whatever GoPro. lol. Keep up the great videos, very inspiring with what you come up with!
I found that out the time consuming hard way! So do you think that as for now, to edit .360 on desktop, Premiere Pro is the only option. I just hate using the Gopro app on my cell phone, too small and limited!
Hi Jack, wich Programm did you use, to final the video? (to upload to youtube) Adobe or only gopro Player. I only use the Gopro Player, but my videos are not so sharp. The quality is not good. Thx for answer.
Hi, I'm afraid this is GOPro player: it allows reframe and export and it is for Mac only. VR player, the one for win, doesn't read *.360: you have to export them first (with the exporter) but then you have no editing tools in vr player

Nice tutorial dude, thanks a lot for the info, as an addition I've discover that you can "rotate" the frame with the trackpad of the MacBook Pro (I think that the Magic Trackpad also works) with the movement of spinning two fingers like a circle... I hope that help to improve the workflow haha... greetings!

Hi Jake, new subscriber. I actually found this video very helpful for the fusion. I don't shot enough to invest in premier and do I need to up grade to the max right now? probably not, so on the gopro mobile app, I am finally able to reframe and edit just like you showed without fusion studio or premier. Works great.

Idk why I thought this was going to be more complicated than it was. Too bad I can't edit on my pc but I'm glad it's pretty simple to do on my phone just another step before i add it to edit with my normal clips on premiere later.

Thanks for the awesome video editing tips. Is it possible to reframe video from the max to a resolution that is linear ? like so maybe it chops the ultra tall/wide video to just the center of the frame and eliminate the barrel distortion (fish-eye effect)? I love how you can in post change the angle and where the camera is pointed.

Awsome footage and edit tips. Did you really edit this on a MacBook (Pro?) We consider buying a MacBook Pro 16. But the info on the gopro App for max is hard to find if the GoPro app will work on the Mac. We have lots of fishing and boating 360 movies but find editing on phone hard.
So please help me on the way.

Well I just got my new GoPro Max, and found your video, (which is awesome by the way). The problem I have is on windows, the GoPro VR player does not seem to like .360files!! So it's a good job I can edit it on my phone!!

Thanks for the great video.... catch is I have a tone of GoPro FUSION footage. And it doesn't SEEM to work with that footage. Do you now if it does? And, if not, what can I do with my Fusion files. Go Pro appears not to have ever updated the FUSION software. Also, is there a way in O PRO PLAYER to export a flatted equirectangular h.264 of h.265 file? I am mtbiker and I usually use my gopros for outdoor Activities. Now I am in a dilemma. Should I buy the hero 10 or the max? For editing videos and reframing, Premiere is the only option? Thank you for the video.
