It was always nice yo have these guys and gun trucks on convoy security. Being the wrecker operator I was always the last vehicle in a convoy. These guys were right behind me. Thanks guys. Bob Bielsky

Bob I was a gun truck gunner in the Marines. We mounted a 50 cal on all are wreckers. Just like you said you were the last in the convoy. He used a prick 25 for communication.

Thank you for putting this together. My father in law was NZ SAS and i think he was at Nui Dat or Long Tan....they had a bad engagement and were being moved when they and some Ozzies got ambushed...they were in serious trouble with a number of wounded....then along came a yank 5 ton gun truck. He said they literally mowed everything down in a 200m radius!! I dont know the name of the gun truck but they saved our guys. Thank you all so much....from a younger kiwi.

I was a 60 gunner on "Casino Royale" in 1970. Really amazed to see it here. Driver was a guy named Salee, .50 gunner was Arty and the other gunner.....well, it was a long time ago. Thank you.

What was it like to be in something like that? How did you guys communicate with one another in the truck?

    • @FredCDobbs-er4qd
      @FredCDobbs-er4qd 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@ethanstang9941 We communicated by hollering as loud as possible. There was a radio in the back but the driver had none and he was surrounded by half inch steel plate and a canvas roof! Being in something like that was a lot better than being a driver of a cargo truck in the convoy. We could use the radio to talk with the convoy commander ( a lt.) or vise-versa. We had it pretty good actually. The cargo trucks had to unload whenever we arrived at a fire base or large camp. We had it as free time. The major roads were cleared of brush for as much as 300 meters depending. Some roads out to a fire base wouldn't be cleared at all. We had three machine guns on board, 2 m-79's, smoke, illumination and 4 or 5 m-16's. We worked from Camp Radcliffe (Ankhe) throughout the Central Highlands. Not bad duty.

    • @FredCDobbs-er4qd

@@ethanstang9941 It was just a general use steel plate cut in 4x8 foot plates as I recall. Probably the same stuff they use on the hull of a ship.

Hey John. I can't tell you how grateful I am for your compilation and I haven't even finished viewing it ey. But I came across Our Truck (The Boot) I was one of the original crew and manned that 50 cal up front. The driver was Rickie Dietz and he named it (as was the custom at that time). The drivers usually maintained the day to day on the truck and the Gunners ahd the weapons ammo etc. Rickie took care of that baby like he gave birth to it... and in aay I guess he did. We were given that 5 tom truck to convert after a bad ambush involving the Bounty Hunter and we were riding back up with a 2 1/2 ton and 2 M60's to cover the close range area where the Hunter was wide open because the Quads could not get any lower without hitting the truck sides. We received commendations and given a 5 Ton to convert... yahooo! If you could tell me where you got that photo I would love to contact anyone that may have some more and I would LOVE to be able to contact Rick. or Teddy Adamoupoulous (excuse spelling if its wrong), What a crew we were Rick, Iowa Farm Boy, Myself NYC Teddy Chicago. We had coupls guys in the 3rd gunner spot Vic I remember and our NCOIC was a black Dude from the South but I cant rememeber the name. He was a riot. Here are a couple linkas about it all. www.vietnam-guntrucks.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Guntrucks-of-Ambush-Alley.pdf www.vietnam-guntrucks.com/guntrucks-of-ambush-alley-2/

This is a really interesting subject for me as I have been in the transportation industry for quite a while now( except at this moment in time) and that when I find out new information about military transport/ logistic vehicles 🚗 I am totally amazed by this subject as it is never given any thought 💭 when there are documentaries on say the history channel for example, however during the last time that I was between jobs I saw a program on the history channel(I think) and the host of this show got in touch with some of the Vietnam gun truckers and recreated one of those amazing trucks and that was a really fascinating show to watch.
A great show, a great truck, and totally full of RESPECT for the guys who crewed them, all the best to all those who crewed those trucks and god bless you for what you have done.

SGT Seay, a member of the 62d Transportation Company in 1968, was awarded the MOH for actions Heroic, above and beyond for his actions during an NVA ambush. He died defending the convoy.

They did convoy security when we were out on the road in our freight trucks hauling supplies. When we were driving and get ambushed our job was to get the freight to its destination. So when we got hit the gun trucks would come up the road and light ol’ Charlie up. Saved our butts many times. And we were able to haul ass and get the loads to their destinations. We hauled a lot of fuel, artillery powder, artillery rounds and everything else necessary to fight a war.

The ABCs of Salvation, or how to be right with God, and know you're going to Heaven:
    A-dmit that you're a sinner, and need a Savior.
As it is written: There is none righteous, no, not one. Romans 3:10
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23
B-elieve that Jesus Christ died paying the penalty for your sins, and rose from the grave.
He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross. 1 Peter 2:24
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures... 1 Corinthians 15:3-4
C-all on the Lord Jesus Christ to save you, and trust only in Him for your salvation.
If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9
For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Romans 10:13
The moment you "believe," or, put your trust in what Jesus has done for you, God saves you and your eternal destiny in Heaven is assured. You go from spiritual death to eternal life the moment you believe.
Jesus said it this way: Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life. John 5:24😀
