Hi Miles - thanks for watching! I did do about a year of volunteering at a local carehome (about once a week for a couple of hours chatting to residents / helping run some activities). There's no such thing as a most important supercurricular. The main things are to show your interest for the subject and going beyond your A-level courses. Hey! Great video!! Just wanted to know whether doing an EPQ was beneficial for the application and if so when do you suggest doing it (jan or June series)?
Doing an EPQ is definitely valuable, particularly if you are applying to an institution which is research heavy. I would recommend completing the EPQ at the start of the year 12 summer holiday (not sure which series that would correspond to sorry) Hope this helps!
@@RohanYesudian really appreciate that you got back!! Hi! i am a current year 12 thats trying to get into cambridge medicine, unfortunately i dont have the best GCSEs 8 in english language 7 in biology 7 in maths 7 in english literature 6 in chemistry 6 in physics 6 in comp sci 6 in RS 5 in PE... Im studying at a grammar school and take bio, chem, maths, further maths and epq to make up for my mediocre gcses. People say gcses matter alot for applying to cambridge, is this true? and am I at a disadvantage in this instance?
You are definitely at a disadvantage, but if you manage to score highly on your UCAT, be predicted highly and have a good personal statement, you will most likely be invited to be interviewed. Due to your GCSEs, you may have to perform better than some others have to in the interviews to be offered a place, as Cambridge consider your academic record holistically after you've been interviewed, but as long as you perform well you definitely have a chance. The most important thing is to score highly in your UCAT, as entrance exams are the most important determiner for being offered an interview at Oxbridge (unfortunately followed by GCSEs). I would recommend researching this yourself however, as I am telling you this from memory. As a side note, Cambridge is definitely a better option than Oxford in your case, as Cambridge invite roughly 70% of their applicants to interviews, compared to Oxford which I believe is roughly 25%. This means you have a better chance of being offered an interview, giving you a chance to perform well in it and receive an offer. Good luck!
Hi jojo. Unfortunately the requirements do vary depending on where you are coming from because they may not accept your national school exams, unless you are taking A levels or IB exams. I would definitely check out the admissions webpage for more information for international students if I were you
@@MovieLOvER-u5s A levels are the equivalent of 12th standard exams in India. Many international students will take IB exams instead which is basically the same qualification as A level. Please look online for further details regarding applicants from India

I am currently in bad position,I don't know where to start,I don't even know how to apply for universities.I know that getting in top universities is hard and my knowledges makes it even worse.I am 0 at chemistry, math, physics. But I managed to learn english though.
Hi Jean, thanks for getting in touch. Unfortunately there is not a lot I can do to help because I don't know much about you or your individual circumstance. The only thing I can suggest is talk to as many people as you can to find out more about different degrees / career options. Do research to find out more - there are so many more options than people like friends and family will tell you. Don't be afraid to be bold and daring and try something different. Work hard and God will do the rest buddy. Take care!
Rohan, today I talked to my mother and we finally getting courses which will help me to get into college.(but its pretty expensive so I will try my best)
For international students which one would you recommend out of the two- Oxford or Cambridge? I got 95 percent in my last school papers. I am a chef, theatre artist, founder of a non-profit and rank 1000 (international) on the international science olympiad. I have attended several science competitions on the national level, and I have also some work experience in the field- I have shadowed a few doctors, all from different fields. I know my BMAT score is a big factor, along with my personal statement, but could you please help me choose from the given information? I am very confused. Thanks.
Hi Bhvik thanks for the question. There are no right or wrong answers regarding whether oxford or cambridge is better for international students - both are extremely competitive, particularly for international students! Personally I am biased towards cambridge of course! But on a more serious note there are more seats in Cambridge so perhaps your chances might be higher here, but not much higher to be honest. The most important consideration is to think where would you rather spend the next 5-6 years of your life! If you are worried about stats make sure to make use of freedom of information requests online! Here is an example of a rather informative one which i found for international admissions stats at cambridge: drive.google.com/file/d/1Jq2BUQzAiCRF9f-lA-DvfwdL8v4OKGeK/view?usp=sharing
Just one last question, based on my current scores and extra curricular activities, do you think I might be able to get into these universities (realistically)? If it is not better than an average applicant (literally everyone), is there anything else I can do to improve my portfolio? Ps. I have also done some certified courses from reputed universities like Stanford, Michigan and Johns Hopkins.
@@Bhvik Hi Bhvik, I'm not sure to be honest. I'm only really familiar with the system in the UK i.e. GCSE grades. I think BMAT score will be very important. Getting a high score in BMAT will help you secure an interview

Hey! Great video!! Just wanted to know whether doing an EPQ was beneficial for the application and if so when do you suggest doing it (jan or June series)?
Doing an EPQ is definitely valuable, particularly if you are applying to an institution which is research heavy. I would recommend completing the EPQ at the start of the year 12 summer holiday (not sure which series that would correspond to sorry)
Hope this helps!
@@RohanYesudian really appreciate that you got back!! Just another doubt, do you get your EPQ grade along with your a levels, i.e after the Oct deadline for ucas application ( a bit confused as my school doesn’t offer any kind of support for doing an EPQ and I’m planing to apply as an international private candidate)
@@saanvirai7091 yes you get the EPQ grade along with the other a levels. However as long as you do an EPQ you can write about it in your personal statement and declare it on the UCAS application, so it shouldn't matter when you get the grade
do they care...if you did bad in gcse but really really well in A levels...i mean they would see the improvement....
it depends - they do consider GCSE grades. If you already have your A-level grades they will also look at them
Hi can you get in with mostly As at gcse with a B in maths
It depends on the other parts of your application. However, you may be at a disadvantage as most candidates will have mostly 8s and 9s at GCSE
Nice Ro!
Thanks Paul :)
Congratulations! God Bless !
Thank you!
I was wondering what were the other unis u applied to and which gave u offers? Also what predicted grades did you apply with? I’m applying this year.
I also applied to Imperial college london, birmingham, and nottingham and I got offers from all of them.
I was predicted 4A*s
Do you know anyone doing fellowships there?
I don't sorry
what were your gcses?
11A*s (this was before the 1-9 system was introduced)
Hey Rohan, I just wanted to ask about how you wrote your essay for the essay competition you entered I'm also entering an essay competition and i haven't had previous experience of writing/structuring essays so is there a specific method you followed?
Hi Amina thanks for the question. This topic should have its own video it's quite big! I recommend you check out Doctor Shaene's channel. He is a Cambridge medicine graduate and has some really good advice on writing scientific essays.

Can you Advise , that this generation need any coaching like Fitjee or Aakash for Cracking Cambridge?
Hi! i am a current year 12 thats trying to get into cambridge medicine, unfortunately i dont have the best GCSEs
8 in english language
7 in biology
7 in maths
7 in english literature
6 in chemistry
6 in physics
6 in comp sci
6 in RS
5 in PE...
Good luck!
bro, can u tell all requirement and things every foreign student should know. AND THANKS
Hi jojo. Unfortunately the requirements do vary depending on where you are coming from because they may not accept your national school exams, unless you are taking A levels or IB exams. I would definitely check out the admissions webpage for more information for international students if I were you
@@RohanYesudian like iam from india so?
@@RohanYesudian and what's the A level and IB exam?
@@MovieLOvER-u5s A levels are the equivalent of 12th standard exams in India. Many international students will take IB exams instead which is basically the same qualification as A level. Please look online for further details regarding applicants from India

Hey bro,I have some questions you might help me with.Right now I am in 10th grade and I don't know what to do with my future:(
I was watching Ali Abdaal's video then I somehow met yours.
I am currently in bad position,I don't know where to start,I don't even know how to apply for universities.I know that getting in top universities is hard and my knowledges makes it even worse.I am 0 at chemistry, math, physics. But I managed to learn english though.
And I think about going to math courses
But chemistry and physics courses are too expensive for my family's budget. At this point I don't have a lot of options.
So what should I do?
@@RohanYesudian Thanks a tonne for your reply. It was very helpful. I shall look into it. 🙏🏻👍🏻

Do you think most colleges at Cambridge want 4 A levels to study Medicine?
Hi Alavi, good question! It’s definitely something I will be addressing in a future video. My short answer advice is if your school offers the opportunity to take 4, you might as well go for it. But I have emailed the admissions department and they said they do not discriminate against candidates who are not able to take 4 A levels if they don’t have the opportunity
