Not about a woman passing during childbirth. About an older woman passing and a new baby being born at the same moment. One angel opening her eyes for the first time and another angel closing her eyes for the last time.
That's the way I always thought, too
Yeah the old mother that died is at the end of her life, the mother crying is a women have a baby late in life.
came here to say the same
I almost get a feeling of reincarnation.. the old woman's soul passing to the baby; "the confusion that was hers belongs now to the baby down the hall"...
@@samdonald198 I don't interpret that as reincarnation, but rather each of them feeling confused about what is happening to them - the old woman confused by what's going to happen to her in death and the baby being confused about coming into this whole new world. The circle of life.
Throwing Copper remains one of my favorite albums of all time. 14 tracks, no misses.
I'd give anything to have some of the cds I had in HS/early years of my marriage. Someone stole the cd case in our car with over 25 original cd's in it. Throwing Copper was in there.
The Distance To Here is my favorite.
I saw him perform the whole album live in 2014
easily one of the best albums of the 90's. i think i wore out this cd the summer of 94.
@@jonnyc71 yup I had the cassette ha Good times
Ed Kowalczyk, the lead singer, described this song as a stark contrast between the joy of childbirth and the trauma of death happening at opposite ends of the same hospital.
We were walking through the hospital after saying goodbye to my husband...and I heard the lullaby sound signaling the birth of a baby and it was what I needed to hear at that moment.
"Her intentions fall to the floor" will always be one of the most moving expressions I have ever heard in my life.
I rank it second to “Dying is easy, it’s living that scares me to death” by Annie Lennox in her song, ‘Cold’.
@@zivo24 Great shout. I wish Annie had composed & released more of her own work over the years, & "Cold" is a solid example of "Why". Pardon the pun! :)
I've always understood this song to be about the circle of life and death. I read an interview from the lead singer, Ed Kowalczyk, he said "It was something that we hoped would honor the memory of a girl we grew up with and help her family cope with the sorrow - which it seems to have accomplished - keeping with the theme of the song," A longtime friend of the band was killed by a drunk driver after fleeing a robbery, at only 19. Barbara Lewis was also a registered organ donor; when she died, she helped save the lives of many people, including a ten-month-old baby who received her liver.
I always found that interesting.
Also, on a side note, I remember the movie Powder! Loved it. I can see the reference! Thanks for the reaction!
Yeah, it was about their friend and about the circle of life.
This comment wrecked me, I never knew the story behind this song ❤
@@richardbrettrmtme either
That's like how I worked with this girl at a call center when I as younger. She was an identical twin, and her sister worked as a bartender at a local pub. I new one better than the other, but after coming back to work in January, after the holidays, I learned that both sisters, born minutes apart, had also passed away minutes apart in the hospital after a head on collision with a drunk driver on New Years Eve.
The Fray - "How To Save a Life" always makes me think if them. That song has become so connected to that event, for me. It was the last time I have ever had a drink at the holidays. In honor of them.
@KeithDCanada I can totally understand that. There are many things I associate with this in my life as well. I've seen more than my fair share of tragedy, that's for sure. It's difficult. That is a great way to honor those you lost... I like that. "How to Save a Life" is an amazing song also. Thanks for sharing that with us all... I appreciate that.
Throwing Copper is an album that will give you chills on every single track. It's almost a spiritual experience. This band never got commercially successful outside of a couple of songs but man they have always been fantastic.
"Pillar of Davidson" is one of my favorites off the Throwing Copper album
They didn't get commercially successful outside some areas. Here in Western NY you couldn't get a ticket to a Live show in the mid 90's to save your life.
@carmelaruck7116 Oh I bet. I am sure their shows sold out. I suppose I was talking more about album sales and overall notoriety. I wish I had gotten to see em live, hope you did.
@@kellygodwin64 TC is one of the best albums (top 5) of the 90’s IMO. I work at Dulles Airport and helped to fuel up the plane that was flown into the Pentagon on 9/11. When they released the Overcome video with the 9/11 footage that became my favorite Live song.
I knew this would be an emotional reaction…I get chills every time I hear this song
Whole Body Chills ever time!!!
I'm crazy connected to this song. It's about an older woman passing while a new baby is born at the same time. This song came out when i was in middle school. My parents had recently divorced and my dad remarried. My stepmom and I bonded when this album came out. We stayed up all night to be the first one at Peaches to buy the CD and had it on replay all summer. We've been very close every since. The night my youngest daughter was born, my stepmom's mom passed away. 1 minute from time of death to time of birth. One in, one out. ❤🪽I get emotional every time i hear this song.
Wow. What an amazing thing to share. That is beautiful. 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️
Wow I’d forgotten about Peaches!
*hugs*
Live is one of those groups that has amazing songs. I Alone is a great one too. This video still hits my heart every single time.
I'm going to have to watch that video now....never seen it, but I absolutely remember that song from when I was in high school
I Alone is amazing ❤
I Alone is my favorite from them. ❤
Also "The Dolphin's Cry", "Selling the Drama", and "All Over You", those round out my five favorites.
"Pillar of Davidson" is one of my favorites from the album
The way the volume intensity rises considerably during the song was the key for me. In your car, you cranked the volume for the start, almost blowing your speakers up later, so you had to turn the volume down…magic.
💯The nostalgia!!!❤
No a new mother cries and then an old mother dies! The circle of life! Love this song and his voice is amazing!❤ Rymes with five!
Throwing Copper was absolutely one of the most underrated albums of the 90s - front to back excellence
This whole album is remarkable.
This song is stunning
How has anyone not heard this song? One of the best songs in its time and even today for some over 30's 😬
I still get chills, and tears, everytime I hear this song. The most beautiful tribute to the cycle of life
Spot on
I told this one time before and received some nasty comments. The day one of my daughters found out she was pregnant. My other daughter was killed in an auto accident. This song along with three doors downs song kryptonite rip my heart out . That was February 29th 2001 . Thanks for playing this one .
Why would ANYONE throw shade on you for that?! That had to be absolutely heartbreaking for you.
I'm so sorry that happened, both with your daughter and for those people saying nasty things. Some people have no respect or feelings.
@@IggyStardust1967 politics
My goodness. My heart goes out to you - I can’t imagine what that’s like. I had a birth in my family about a week and a half after a death, and the gain helped to temper the sadness of the loss. But on the same day I can’t imagine. I hope you’ve been able to pull through and move on.
@scottNNJ I'm sorry that happened that way . Strange how life can be .
This song was all over radio when it came out in the 90s. Their MTV Unplugged concert is so underrated. They have a bunch of really good songs. "I Alone" should be next up.
I played the daylights of this album when it cave out. Amazing band
The band dedicated this song to Barbara Lewis, one of their high school friends who was killed by a drunk driver around the time it was written. Her brother-in-law Cory told Songfacts the story:
"The song's lyrics are mostly an analogy. Barb donated several organs, including her heart. She was close with Ed [lead singer Ed Kowalczyk] and the guys and died in a car collision with a fleeing armed robber. These lyrics are constantly misunderstood! Yes, Ed is speaking to the circle of life, but specifically to how Barb's life gave new life to many. The angel, the baby down the hall, the pale blue eyes (of Barb), the pain ("confusion")... the lyrics are wholly Ed's interpretation of his experience and perception of Barb's impact. Our family has become close with the most genuine and caring man who is still alive today (over 10 years later), who has Barb's heart beating in his chest! 'Lightning Crashes' literally lives on."
Ed Kowalczyk doesn't like to talk about the meaning of this song, but he did explain its creation. "I wrote 'Lightning Crashes' on an acoustic guitar in my brother's bedroom shortly before I had moved out of my parents' house and gotten my first place of my own." Kowalczyk says that the video for "Lightning Crashes" has caused misinterpretations of the song's intent.
What a tragic story but beautiful tribute to their friend Barb. Thank you for sharing. May your friend live many more years to share this beautiful life with those around him.💓
Well over 100 times later and this still ties your intestines into a knot... and who the heck keeps cutting those onions!
"The beauty of grey". Great band that is excellent live.
One of those songs that really hits hards and just gets better with time. Loved it when i was 16, but over the years until 40, i've, somehow, always found a new kind of appreciation for this song! I guess that, the more you live the more you "know"...🤘❤🤟
I LOVE "LIVE" and they sounded the same live in concert. Phenomenally talented writing, vocals, and music. Ed's vibrato is insanely good. ❤
During a massive live performance, Live got the entire crowd to just sing 'love' with them over and over.
You need to reacted to these Live songs, “The Dolphin’s Cry”, “Selling The Drama”, “All Over You” & “I Alone” and you will see a different side of this band from this song
I always loved Top.
Lakinis Juice is a banger
The beauty of gray, Heaven... Overcome
@@wwabbit6653yes!! My fav. Live song.
Absolutely love "The Dolphin's Cry" and "I Alone". LIVE got me through a challenging period in my life.
He says "A new mother cries" (childbirth)... Then, "an old mother dies" (a DIFFERENT woman, simultaneously dying in the same hospital). "The confusion that was hers (the old woman who died) belongs now to the baby down the hall". Relisten to it again, knowing this. 😉
So beautiful and sad at the same time because when you die, you do leave all those confusing/negative things about life at the door and are free of all ailments or burdens…. But the new life born is just stepping into it. And, if you believe in reincarnation, usually are not very happy to find themselves back on earth. Lol. ❤
I don't know why so many reactors don't get this song. It's always seemed obvious to me, that "new mother" and "old mother" are two different women. But they all jump to the conclusion that it's a woman dying in childbirth. Very annoying.
@heidiv5488 for most reactors it's also there 1st time hearing it and not the 200th so maybe they don't catch all the lyrics that time. If its so annoying maybe you should stop watching responders videos for the song???
@@heidiv5488 there’s nothing wrong with interpreting a song differently than intended either. Music speaks in many ways and in many languages.
@@Avalee325too true!
One of my all time favorite songs. So beautiful and powerful.
The best song of all time
Their album Throwing Cooper was brilliant. Not a bad track on it. Takes me back many years.
100% One of less than a handful of cds i can actually listen to the whole thing without skipping over some of the songs.
❤love that this song was so provacitive when it came out. Not many songs like it. Lead singer song writer wrote this on a acoustic guitar when he was a single young man.
I once went on a long road trip to another state to my grandmother's funeral, and it just so happened a friend of my wife at the time who lived in the same city as my grandmother gave birth that very weekend so we got to visit the new baby on that same trip. On the way home this song came on and I got goosebumps over my whole body.
One of my favourite bands! They've never played in Northern Ireland, but we've seen them in Scotland, England, Republic of Ireland and even Atlantic City on our honeymoon. The entire Throwing Copper album is incredible. I had a Live playlist during my labour. My son was born to The Dolphin's Cry.
To me, this has always been the most beautiful and moving music video I have ever seen!
This band has so many great songs. Please go down this rabbit hole!
Thank you Thank you Thank you I hope you do more of this group
I saw them in concert for this album. My all time song is “Pillars of Davidson.” Because it is moving when you understand what they are saying.
Me too, like the whole album.
Pillar of Davidson is such a awesome song very political driven with ones own politics and confronting your own demon's
Yes!!! Agreed. I love this whole album though
DUDE. You totally GOT IT!!! It made me so excited.
One of the best songs ever written!! It's one of my favorites!
When I got my 1st CD player Live - Throwing Copper was one of my 1st CDs (also got Crash Test Dummies - God Shuffled His Feet and Stan Kenton Orchestra - Channel One Suite that day). Still holds up 30 years later.
Omg..one of my favorites 😍. Glad you found this one. ❤
This song was so powerful when it arrived… So glad to see your appreciation for Live 👊🏻
Such a great band!!!! Bout time you hit up this song!
Great reaction
AHHH I CANT BELIEVE IT!! You finally reacted to this song I love it so much it just touches my soul ...Also Live they were so underrated 🙂
Love this band-first album was so good.
First reaction I’ve seen to any of their songs.
one of the best and most under-rated bands of the 90's. i have 3 cd's, all great material !!!!
My husband likes to play Freaks about 15 times in a row until I told him it's time for a new Ed song please... His voice is too good just to listen to 1 song only.
For a long time I thought I was the only person who cared about music as much as I do, after seeing a lot of these reactions speaking on great lyrics and feel makes me happy.
When dolphin's cry, pure energy
This is another one of those bands I heard 1 song and was in love. Throwing Copper was the go-to cd in my car for years.
Have always loved this song 💕💕💕
"The confusion that was hers... belongs now to the baby down the hall" is one of the most profound lines I've ever heard.
I love this band so much! I got to see them in concert and I met Edward backstage. What an incredible moment. His voice is so powerful. One of my all time favorite bands.
Absolute classic! Sometimes I’m shocked by the songs you haven’t heard.
But on the other side of the coin is I get to see your reaction hearing the first time 😂 ❤❤
One of my all time favorite groups. Impeccable catalogue!!
One of, if not, most emotional/scary songs ever written!!! BY FAR!! Really makes you cherish life that much more!!! Heard this song hundreds of times and still gets me teary-eyed... Deep, very deep....
Life Is ALL in His Decision... mapped out to a T....
Great comment. Couldn't agree more!!!!
Love Live! Their song "The Beauty of Gray" is probably my all time favorite song from them. Saw them in concert at University of NH back in the day and they were epic! 💙💙💙
Absolute chills. Always.
The band is live and the album was throwing copper is a very old song. Glad you came across it. It’s very deep.
Wow I was obsessed with this song... played it on repeat.. excited to listen to this with you ❤
I have been waiting for you to react to this song ❤ one of my favorites
What makes this so much more emotional for me is it was played in memory by a lot of people of those who died in the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building bombed by Timothy McVeigh. There was even videos of this song played over news reports of the tragedy. It's called "Lightning Crashes OKC Bombing Mix" here on TH-cam.
I was in school at Choctaw High School when that bomb went off which was 20 minutes away. I remember just getting to English class and the building shook. A classmate of mine and my husband’s lost her dad. My mom’s best friend from high school lost her husband.
I was 10 miles north of downtown, it shook our office building at Britton and Broadway. We thought one the news helicopters had crashed or something since the studios were all in that area. I drove down the street around 10:00pm the night before, my girlfriend at the time was starting a temp job at EMSA by St. Anthony's the next morning. My roommate was a paramedic at the time and got recalled after getting off at 8:00am. He quit the profession about 6 months after, it really affected him.
I ended up working some on the Memorial project and a lot on the new federal building.
Almost 400k!!!!!!!!! I'm here for it... LFG!!!
Amazing band!!! One of my all time faves.
Great band with a unique sound. Some of my favorites by them include "Pain Lies on the Riverside", Dolphin's Cry", "I Alone", "Run to the Water", Lakini's Juice and their cover of "Walk the Line".
The best song, and album (Throwing Copper) of the 90's. This song hits any adult that hears it on the very first listen, just like with you. Even without the video, the vocals and lyrics about the circle of life send this song soaring. The amazing video puts it over the top. Truly a masterpiece.
No matter h😢w many times I hear this... I feel his pain... And the beauty of the meaning
One of my favorite singers.
Amazing song. Very moving. Definitely a favourite of mine.
One of my favorite songs ❤
Yeah P the little line over the I signifies a long i sound , so it's Live as in , I saw Aerosmith live in concert . Hey BP I am so sorry for the losses you and your wife had and am very happy Mrs P is still here with us and that you have 2 beautiful daughters to raise . God Bless you and your family !
OMGOSH! My favorite band from the 1990s!!! Ed Kowalczyk wanted the band name to be LIVE… but everyone called it Live… So it really is LIVE, as in Live life to the fullest.
This song is about the circle of life to me, I had this on repeat when my mother passed
I love this song so much!
Love this song ❤❤❤
Dear friend! From Brasil here. I really love your reactions and channel. Your reactions are genuine, auhentic, and you are so humble e mainly HUMAN. This song , for me is a master piece and remind me the time of my first graduation, living alone in a strange land, far fro wife, family and friends. Thank you for this reaction and the magnificent song.
Straight outta York !!! Patrick the bass player is a family friend of ours he was at my wedding actually and we used to house sit for him. My brother in law was the bass tech for them for years.
I cry every time I hear this song. That's why its so important to watch an official video to get the entire context of most songs. The live performances can be great but only to see the showmanship. Their next song you should do is called "I Alone." And its a long "I."
This is one of the CDs that I owned as a teenager where every single song was awesome! You can’t go wrong with Live!
brilliant composition - always in my playlist. "All Over You" is also worth listening to.
This is my favorite song ever!
A top 5 band from the 90s . live has so many good songs that hope you will react to more because the feelings and stories that their music brings is amazing
In the top ten of the most amazing but underrated songs of all time
That whole album is fire!
The album Throwing Copper is so good. Deep.
An Exquisitely written and _beautifully_ sung song by the band (pronounced) *Lyve.*
Brings back memories of my childhood. This song was HUGE when it came out and rightfully so, it’s incredible. There’s another good song on that same album called “I Alone” you should do that one next or soon!!! I was born in 85, so I grew up in the 90’s. One of the BEST decades for music! I know every generation says that about when they grew up, but come on! That 90’s were IT!!!! 😁
This song has always been 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. 🙏🏻🙏🏻😎🤘🏻🤘🏻
I loved this song when it came out. Still a good jam! The circle of life.🔥🔥
Alll time classic song.
OMG, such underrated artists. The storytelling lyrics and audio alchemy!! Give a listen to Pillar of Davidson, Turn my head, Iris, gosh they have so many great songs!
I have fond memories of going to see them performing this album ("Throwing Copper" remains in my Top10 albums of the '90s - it is well worth setting aside an hour & listening straight thru) at a tiny venue called King Tut's Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow, Scotland, in Feb '95. The lads in the band were quite amused by me being the only one in that small crowd singing along to *all* the songs, & not just the two radio singles (spot the youngster who had picked the album up *real* early!!) LOL
I used to love rooting out good bands & going to see those early gigs where the band can still see individual faces in the crowd & interact - I don't really get the arena & festival shows tbh. King Tut's used to have some great bands touring early albums- I'm looking thru the list from '91 to '95 as I type this: Blur, Radiohead, PJ Harvey, Stone Temple Pilots, The Verve, Supergrass, Weezer.... all in a tiny 300cap basement venue. Ahh, those were the days! :)
One of my favorite songs.
Just an incredible song and lyrics. Such heartfelt emotion in this song. This is a song about the constant cycle of life. One person dies and another child is born. It is incredibly poetic. LIVE is brilliant and the vocals are amazing.
I saw live when they were still an underground band . Saw them in a club in Austin called the backroom back in 1990 they have always been amazing.
Awesome reaction. This was my fave album when it came out and it's still on high playing rotation to this day. Peace Out ✌️
Hometown boys made it big. Love seeing them still around today.
The whole throwing copper album is beyond amazing. When I think of the 90s greats LIVE is top tier!
Cannot hear this song without crying it reminds me of my mother
LIVE is absolutely one of my favorite bands every and the lyricism from their self-titled album are all AMAZING. Check out "I ALONE" also. Thank you for reactiing to this song and giving your take and critiques of the music. Please do more "LIVE"
This band is great. You need to watch the concert Live at the Palladium. It's incredible. Might have been at the Presidio, 2008.
Omg this song brings back memories ❤
My favorite Live song is "Selling The Drama".
Pillar of Davidson one is my favs!
