- For Tyasa's new minimill meltshop in Ixtaczoquitlan, Mexico, Primetals Technologies supplied a Quantum electric arc furnace with a tapping weight of 100 metric tons, as well as secondary steelmaking facilities.

I work in furnace maintenance and seeing a somewhat spotless furnace is mind blowing. Hell theres 2 ft of dust and shit covering everything on the one I work on. But being built in the 70s i see why. Fun job though

Samuel Skala thank you for answer. I'm asking for the ladle furnace what else can heat the ladle furnace from steel.ı think there are two arc furnaces in this factory.

At 1minute 38 seconds a liquid seems to be running down the electrodes. I am guessing it it some kind of coolant but It plainly cant be water so can you tell me what it is please?
+xxxxxxxxxxhardyit is water. there is a spray ring around each electrode that sprays water to keep the flames down so the electrode holder doesn't get burnt up. water on top of liquid steel will evaporate off which isn't a problem.
The electrodes are water cooled. Piped into the contact clamps.
The water is in no way there to protect the holder, the holder is water cooled internally. The water running you see is there to lower electrode consumption by cooling the electrode itself.
Is there a problem electrode burn off ? We can weld some above it.
So, what federal policies prevent something like this from being built here?
Labor issues, mostly. We still produce steel in this country (USA), we just don't need nearly as many people to do the job nowadays.
Where is “here”
Labor costs , OSHA - huge amounts of toxic gas , dust , smoke . Skilled trades costs .

Putting "quantum" on a name doesn't mean anything and sounds like a marketing department from the 1990's
