I have quite a few synths, and I picked up a Subsequent 37 this summer. They are pretty special. Any synth with MIDI can do the same thing, but not all are great at responding to MIDI clock. One trick is to start the clock a bar before you need to hit record.
@@ColtCapperrune This is the video I found the other day when trying to solve my MIDI clock timing issue. Things just weren't locking properly. th-cam.com/video/EjrvApZgMZo/w-d-xo.html

Yeah would love to learn more. Been getting into synths for textures for my pop-punk productions. I’m sure there’s a lot of cross over with your production style. Subbing to the Patreon right away!
I have the Sub 25. Love it! 😍 Records so beautifully that besides adjusting gain I put nothing on the channel. Also your knob issue can be solved with a midi controller. Many of them map automatically to the VST you’re using. 😃
Reasons I find synthesizers fun, they load up quicker then vsts, they take the load off your cpu, they don't crash and sometimes when your session crashes all the vst presets default to the 1st preset making it hard to know what presets you choose and the tweaks you had made, you can get more hands on, less using a mouse, they tend to hold value if/when you'd like to let go of them and sell something. There's a beauty in the way synthesizers are crafted and the way they light up, (most times the sounds don't have fx on them like vsts do, having said that sometimes fx vsts with hardware really take the sound in a nice direction too. What I don't like about hardware synthesizers, Some don't have midi, so your locked to recording in stereo or mono, hardware synthesizers can break, remembering which cables go where? Some are not as portable, some gear you can't buy anymore, wishing you got the synthesizer with more keys.
Guitarist here too and that makes me a bit unsure about dropping moog money, but this one’s pulling me in, the cv outs would be such a bonus! I have the moogerfooger filter and know the sound and build quality is off the charts, can this go as low as the minitaur? I imagine yes but am primarily interested in synth bass lines.
YES! Congrats! But Colt, you own one now, so you gotta say it right 😅 it's Mow-g, like "I'm going to Mow my lawn" but with a G on the end haha. Enjoy the beast

You use Pro Tools to control the Sub37. I use a MPC3000 or XL to MIDI control the Sub37 and the Korg Prologue in practically all the music that I've done over the past five years. All my other synths except for the Korg ARP Odyssey, are pre MIDI so I play them live alongside the Sub37 and Prologue performances that are controlled by the MPC. Some may say beware the rabbit hole of the analogue synths. Me? I say embrace it until your mixing board is almost full. Even with a patch bay you will have to slow down then, lol. The Sub37 was my very first analogue synth so it has a special place in my heart too.
I had this synth and I recorded with it some cool stuff (I am to think so!). I sold it to buy the Sequential Take 5 that is more flexible for my needs. Anyway the Moog Subsequent 37 is a great duophonic synth.
Colt! Congratulations on the new Subsequent 37! Good pick! I've got one here too. Not sure if you know or not but the other great thing about the Subsequent 37 is that the presets can be shared. Please consider sharing the patches you made for this demo. Also, not being a synth guy, I'm surprised at how easy and quick you feel you're able to dial in just the kind of sound you have in mind. I'd love to see a video on how you go about creating a patch from scratch. Maybe include a bass and lead sound for sure. Great demo! Thank you!

re: your issues with getting arpeggiator sync in the past-i'm not sure i understand. I thought it was always just about setting the synth to follow the DAW/sequencer clock.
I just downloaded pro tools intro. But when i click the play button, i cant hear any sound. Could anyone help me?... In my desktop, i use fl studio too...
"The presets suck on every VST synth" is a bold and harsh statement! Love my subsequent though, but that VST controller for it is constantly breaking my heart.
Tutorial for the intro piece!!
I'm considering selling my Access Virus TI 2 (16 chan, 80 voice, "virtual analog") to buy a Moog Subsequent 37 real analog... still didn't deciding about it... great channel by the way, greetings from Brazil!
Just get the software. It's free and just as good if not better.
James Coffee Co. is the best. Shoutout to David from BCR/AVA.
Shut Up & Take My Money 💰👍🏻🎹
Very nice sounds! That's why I want a Sub!
Bravo ))))) 😊😊😊
This is my first synth! I'm having trouble wrapping my head around anything past the basics... can anyone point me in the right direction? I'd sincerely appreciate it.
hey colt brilliant vid, i got one this summer for my birthday so im gonna subscribe to your patreon for the tutorial, will it be on the all access tier? thanks a lot
Hello Colt! First of all I apprieciate all your videos, you are truly amazing! I am a guy that play e drums, is it worth it to use an analog bus with like compressor and eq on them even if I use third part like EzDrummer? :)
Noooooo!!! I just paid my Sweetwater card off! Locking arpeggiator you say 🤔
😂😂😂
You do know that almost every modern hardware synth can be midi synced incl the arpeggiator right? 🤷♂
Is he saying he's only just discovered midi synchronisation?
good stuff
Hi m8, for those who's budget doesn't extend to the SUB37 , have you any sub $1000 alternatives ?
Much appreciated.
Have a look at KingKorg 61 keys. It is VA yet it within a window can mimmick several analog synths very well. Also vocoder 😀
@@Michel-r6m thanks for the reply
Wow! wtf! makes me wanna buy it as a toy. I'm just mixing and mastering btw
Do it! Haha
Never trust people who say Moog wrong
Haha same thing with Matriarch, arp… sync. (And à stereo delay for my guitar)
I give you two weeks before you have a prophet-5 and a hydra synth
RIP my bank account 😂
don't forget the Korg MS 20 lmao@@ColtCapperrune
Isnt it Moog like Moag more of an "O" sound
It's pronounced like "Moge" not like "Mooog". Robert Moog said it's Dutch.
I never owned a Moog. But I promised myself. My first one wil be the 37.
Just when you mentioned how you wouldn't review hardware with software attached. Ha, seems like you got a cool new toy, nonetheless.
I done a tutorial on the synthesiser if anyone is interested, one of my favourite mono synths of all time 🎹❤

I will never sell mine, I will never sell mine, I will never sell mine 😂
Did you get a new best friend after a year?
Awesome! Not a side of you we get to see too often.
Thanks! It’s a side I wish I could utilize more often!

I love analog synths as much as the next guy, but the idea that software synths like omnisphere, arturia, serum, etc. “suck” or all of their presets suck is just bogus. Like everything in the studio, they are tools and will only be as good as the person using it. But I get it, it’s time to sell some Moogs.
I don’t think the sounds you can get with them sucks at all, but the factory presets suck on all of them in my opinion. Even the factory presets on this Moog suck. Every sound in this video was created from scratch. Thanks for watching!
I can’t get my sub 37 to talk as much as yours and 37
My Sledge has 3 oscillators.
My car has four wheels 😂
2K is a lot of money...
It is.
