Here it comes, television's most exciting hour of fantastic prizes the fabulous sixty-minute Price is Right!

Man this just instantly hits memories of staying home sick from school and a cozy childhood
Or a snow day with Campbells Tomato Soup piping hot, a grilled cheese and ice cold milk. TPIR was on at 11, so perfect lunch time
I agree
...or playing hooky/summer break.
LOL, exactly what I was thinking! P is R was the best part of having a school sick day!!
@@briandfallon74 It’s like you were watching me! 😂
I met him once delivering a package to his house. He was beyond kind and took a moment to talk with me. What a class act!
Haha did you believe the name on the package at first?
Was it in a plain brown wrapper?
Nah ,but i bet you were delivered that way lol😂@@eddieafterburner
Albert?😉
RIP Bob Barker. Thanks for keeping me entertained on sick days...
Some one said he still alive
amazingly, it's been 15 years since Bob retired and he's still with us at 98 years old.
@@crookeddonald4761 That went over your head there Donald.
He is the 100 on the wheel, and I hope he spins again and hits 5 or 10
Bob spun a dollar on the wheel, then a 5, then a 15, then another dollar. And now he's tending to his garden in beverly hills. When you're born for something, you just do it. :)
@@DaleWinarski FYI, he doesn't live in Beverly Hills.
Bob Barker is with us. TH-cam keeps showing us his videos these few days... and this happens with the "Golden Girls" as well, before Betty White passes...
Why couldn't times have stayed like this. The late 80s and 90s were incredible.
Who doesn’t love Bob Barker! Always so classy, never flinches and knew how to handle the problem!
All of the models on the show?
@@fbueller I don’t think so
When you do the show to time (i.e. live to tape like a theatre show), you become the editor. And in some cases, the de facto executive producer. That's what makes a good host, and is sadly why the heavily edited shows of today seem dull.
Bob calling himself Santa Claus Barker is such a great ad lib.
This is what I love about this show-even into the late 2000’s, they never edited this kind of stuff out! They eventually reached the point where they obviously had the technology to edit out errors like this, and honestly should have. But it made for a more entertaining and genuine program. Especially since Bob *always* had a hilariously sharp response anytime it happened.
Well, they could "edit it out" but they can't change what happened. There are strict laws governing game shows, and once Bob goofed, they had no choice but to continue and give him the trip, so why edit?
@@LeeKeels You could entirely edit out this contestant or not air him and nobody would know. They could have still paid Albert too in order to comply with any regulations.
@@em4706 pretty sure Albert would of known if he wasn't shown on tv
@@em4706 But why do that? Why give him the trip, and then have to run another segment and give another contestant a chance to win something too? This whole comment thread is silly. The technology to edit TV very much existed in 1984.
"Eventually they had the technology to edit out errors".
...do you think this show aired unedited until the late 2000s?
I always loved how Bob would just roll with the goof and keep it in the final cut to air. Thank you Bob!
I don't think it's something they could edit out legally. Any events that are consequential need to stay on the aired portion of the show in order to maintain the legitimacy of the game. As a result, any goofs like Bob's here, Manuela's "5 Price Tags" car gaffe, and even Holly with the Gibson appliances can't be edited out or retaken.
As a child, I watched Bob Barker host TPIR.
As an adult, I still watch Bob Barker host TPIR.
Legend.
Dude is DEAD.......Now he can't sexually harass all the Big Breasted Bob Barker Beauties backstage anymore...
I remember him hosting Truth or Consequences.
I used to watch Bob Barker host TPIR. I still do, but I used to, too.
@@tonymason6686 Mitch was awesome.
@@BleedBNG Yes, our family watched Bob Barker on TorC all the time!
I'm watched him last night on the Roku. TPIR, The Barker Era. It's great fun!
Imagine if the raisins weren't actually $1.59.
Bob is a legend, perhaps the greatest gameshow host ever. His charisma is priceless. I can't remember what the prize was but on another show the contestant had lost the game yet Bob declared the person a winner by mistake. He decided to give the person the prize as a result after realizing what happened. Such class.
It didn't come out of his paycheck, his job was safe (you couldn't just up and replace Bob Barker), and people love it when people win prizes.
There have been a few times where either the contestant lost, or one time actually CHEATED, and Bob said "I'll just give you the prize!" The one where the contestant cheated is the one that's in my head right now, but I know it's happened a few other times.
@@P2000Camaro I think you're referring to the one where the guy pressed the button which revealed the price. The video says he "cheated" but I think he just did it by accident thinking he had to push the big red button to confirm his choice.
In any case, having a giant button which revealed the price was dumb. They could have had a hidden one that only Bob knew about, or a stagehand behind it dropping the price.
@@daveincognito They replaced Bob Barker
@@magnumpi28 After he retired at the age of 83. It's not like he got fired.
im so happy for Albert winning! seemed like the perfect guy to just let win.
Turned his blunder into a comedy act, that is true talent right there.
I literally would watch this when I was sick from school. Im not sure what I found so enjoyable about it as a child but I liked it
Man, what a different time the 80's were compared to now.
Was better then.
@@sarcasm4371 Definitely was.
@@sarcasm4371 Maybe for you it wasn't, but for me, and probably most people that were alive back then, it was.
Oh, my goodness, guys. I was alive then and I was alive now. Some things were better then, some things are better now, some things are pretty much the same-and many of these things are things that two persons won't agree on, and even things that the same person feels differently about at different times. Why do TH-cam comments so often devolve into arguments over whether the past or the present is better?
Also, for the record: Game-shows were way better then, especially The Price Is Right.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion but the 80s were DIFFERENT. Not better or worse.
Legend has it Albert went to Japan, fell in love and opened a raisin/chili sushi bar and never looked back.
That’s so great to hear. We never hear from the winners ever.
And he married a young geisha girl that was the death of Him
Those Santa's helpers outfits the models have on are the best!
Can't do that nowadays without a lot of internet backlash.
I found the pair I would pick if you know what I mean
For my pair, I pick Janice AND Dian.
@@calanon534 Well backlash sucks. It ruins all the fun!
@@JZCRAZY Indeedily do.
man, Bob was just always the best sport anyone could be. a true treasure
I'd be so nervous to be on live television that if I were on the game show, I would have completely tuned out what Bob said and embarrass myself even more than Bob by not catching that he said the raisins, lol.
That is what was great about Bob Barker. Whenever something like this happened, whether it was his fault, a model's fault, or a prop fell over or something, if there was a chance that the contestant COULD have seen it, Bob always made absolutely sure they knew what other people saw and understood what it meant and steered them toward picking the winning item. If this guy had said he wanted to match the bread, Bob would have said "Now wait a minute..." and explained it to him as thoroughly as he could without coming right out and saying "I already told you the raisins were the match for the chili." But he would come as close to saying that as he could without saying it. Similarly, had he said he wanted to match the chili and tried to pick something other than the raisins, he made sure the contestant knew they were picking the wrong one and might even say "Now...listen to the audience...they KNOW what one you should pick." and of course, the audience would all be screaming "RAISINS!"
I have seen a few contestants who DIDN'T follow what was going to and did try to still pick a random item that was obviously wrong. And I can't remember a single time where Bob didn't successfully make them change their guess to the correct one.
The prizes cost the show almost nothing. In some cases, literally nothing if it is small enough and the manufacturer felt it was worth the publicity to give the whole prize outright. So they didn't care if contestants won. They loved episodes where all 6 contestants won. Great publicity and helps the ratings. The revenue from higher ratings far exceeded the extra payouts for more contestant wins. That's why even when they had their famous "exact bid" during Drew Carey's first season, they weren't concerned with paying out the wins. They were concerned that there would be a scandal if it turned out someone gave the contestant the price in advance.
Talk about someone having the merriest Christmas of his life. A real early gift for him.
Bob was such a G. RIP, Sir. You were the man.
Oops. You gotta love how he was nice enough to admit he made a mistake
Goblin magic
I used to watch Bob Barker host this show when I was a kid. The lady who watched me didn't understand why I didn't want to just watch Looney Tunes, which I did. But the Price is RIght around 1986-1987 was my favorite show right up there with Transformers and GI Joe.
I remember watching the TV show MASK. Best cartoon ever
I watched this show with my mother in the 70's. loved it.
@Axel's Archives Yes that sucked but thankfully the "MeTV" network plays classic cartoons now on Saturday mornings starting at 7:00am (Pacific) ... Popeye / Pink Panther / Tom & Jerry / and Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies.
@matt9042 I love M.A.S.K. too! The theme song awesome!
I didnt realize how much of an improvement Rod Roddy was for the show. He was so lively in his descriptions. just a little more pep.
As a teacher, I have done the same thing once or twice! Free answers for the students! You just gotta make light out of it and admit humorously that we sometimes make mistakes!
Same here. I jokingly tell my students "and this is why I can never get top secret clearance."
I was born 20 years after this but the show was still the same when the was sick at home. Iconic.
I remember being a kid in the 80s and staying home sick, The Price is Right and Nintendo the go to in those days. I miss the 80s.
I absolutely loved it when either bob would make a mistake or one of the games would act up. Other hosts might let it get to them or make them stumble but bob ever the professional makes the whole thing funny and entertaining.
Bob also played pick a pair with those models backstage. haha
Incredible how good quality it is when restored
Santa Claus Barker gives away $3,000 trip to Japan lol
LMAOO 😂😂😂I noticed him immediately catch his mistake can’t say you don’t love Bob ❤❤
Love Janice's Christmas attire!
I know im surprised they they were allowed to wear that sexy outfit
Super hot babe
Johnny and Bob are my late morning memories with Johnny yelling “Come on doooowwwnn!” And Bob on stage. Last show before the 12oclock news before the afternoon soaps and a bottle of cold brew. Is it any wonder I got too much time on my hands. Wait why did I just break into song.
At least it’s one of the better Styx songs.
I see what you did here. Can you solve the worlds problems without even trying?
Yeah Johnny Olson and Bob are 2 legends.
I loved watching these after school was over during summer times.
These 80’s episodes were the absolute BEST ever !!!!. Miss these great times!!!!☝️🥲🥲
This is Barb Barker for that fleeting moment when his hair went from jet black to snow white. When Barb Barker was in front of the camera, all was right with the world.
Both knew that the screwup means a win by default. Bob was just trying to kill time for this game while attempting to look dignified.
Attempting? It'd be hard pressed for that man not to.
We all goof up sometimes. That's just the way it is.
So the guy's a bachelor? Smart man. 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Bachelors in the past were often just gay and didn't want to say it.
If course, giving away the trip was a win for everyone. The hotel got the advertising, CBS and the show got a LOT of good will, the contestant got a nice trip and the U.S. Treasury got a nice tax windfall.
Bob was great. His sarcastic humor always made me laugh.
This video was back in 1984 Bob Barker was 61 years old on here. He still alive at 98 years old today about to turn 99 years old on December 12th. Next year on December 12, 2023 will be his 100th birthday which he will be 100 years old. He lived a long life. It was the good old days of The Price Is Right back in the 1980s
Lot's of good gameshow hosts from this era. Bob was a great one for sure. Always came of as genuine and funny and just great at his job
What would really be a twist is if Bob had a bit of mean streak and it really WASN'T the raisins, and he had just sabotaged him.
I sure to miss the class and style he brought to this show. Once he left it was never the same.
I haven’t watched since 2014 i agree it has never been the same
Nothing will beat his role in Happy Gilmore.

It was different back then. Men drove there wife's to the store. They didn't shop. Bob was such a great man. Watching these old eps makes me miss my momma and siblings. Everyday Bob was on. Rest in peace 🙏
My father bought all of our groceries on a weekly basis. Sometimes I would tag along. Mom stayed home with my baby brother. This was in the 70's and 80's and when we moved out they would go together.

Airdate December 21, 1984. There was a Barker’s Beauties chat during One Right Price where Bob asked Dian, Holly, and Janice what they wanted for Christmas. Other pricing games played in this episode: Money Game, Blank Check, One Right Price, Master Key, and Walk Of Fame.🎅🏼🧑🏻🎄🤶🏻🎄🎁
You've got it, Heidi!
By this point, the show has stopped doing extra episodes after Christmas. Reruns aired until New Year's Day 1985.

One time the contestant didn't give him all the dollars in a car game. "You've got a dollar left. You win!"
That game is LUCKY SEVEN and it happened with Drew Carey also.
This can't be the only time this happened because I remember it happening while watching as a child as well
Whoops! Probably the biggest blooper of 1984 let alone Christmas week in general. I'm glad this was done live to tape so that major mistakes like this one were kept in for fun entertainment television.

Hilarious! Man I love the classic Bob Barker TPIR era :D
I just love Johnny Olson's mumbling yet precise way of speaking. What a legend.
You go Bob🤩, that was funny🤣 I really hope he enjoyed his trip to Japan😊
All he got was a trip. Manaella gave a contestant a new car. 🤣
@@glenerickson358 Yes I remember that😍🤣
Miss you Bob, watched you all the time when I was too young to go to school. Best host ever
Man, this was at the prime of me watching this. So much I remember from this era!
A trip to Japan! That must have been amazing!
It was rather unusual for a man of his age to be never married in those days. I wish I could hear more of his story both before and after his time on TPIR!
I like to imagine Albert being very happy as a single man, having seen friends and relatives in poor marriages, and never quite getting over the joy of cooking exactly what he wants, when he wants. Having a cold one after a hard day's work. Smiling as he gets up in the morning, knowing the day is his. Going to Japan, having an incredible time there. And now? He's achieved Internet Immortality.
He might have had a “roommate” for 30 years.
My Grandparents lived 5 minutes away from my Highschool. Lunch started at 11 and ended at 12. I would go to their house everyday at lunch and watch TPIR from 1105 right into 1150. I loved those times.
I hope he reaches 100 years old I want to visit him while he is still alive

If a game show mistake made, then good things can happen. Long live Mr. Barker
Sadly, he won't be with us much longer. Last time I saw him, he was looking and sounding very elderly.
@@glenerickson358 Think good thoughts about him, anyway. It would be huge for The Price is Right to celebrate his 1.00 birthday, on the big wheel and the show. He's just two pennies away.
Well...
Back when winning a home appliance was worth more compared to how much money people made then to now
Now, that was just Mr Barker being nice. What a sweet man.
Christmas episodes were the best.
I love that he just said "Well, looks like you're going to Japan." I could imagine some other hosts would have called the game forfeit. What a classy host.
Reminds me of a time during the Bob Barker era, playing the Race Game. If I remember correctly, when the time ran out, the big digit on the board showed that the contestant had one correct price, but then when the camera switched away from the board, and then back to the board, it displayed 0. Being that this was a mistake on behalf of production and not the contestant, Bob actually let the contestant pick out one prize she wanted to keep! She kept the giant circular clock (I think valued at $800).
It's also interesting in this clip to see how different the Pick-a-Pair game was presented back then!
2:48 they just don’t make enough products “extra moist” anymore.
I bet Bob had Dian wear that Christmas outfit when they hooked up later that night.
Love how he calls himself “Santa Claus Barker” end!
That microphone was the best!
I watch him now on TPIR channel on Pluto 👍🏿 Good memories 👍🏿
I always love bob Barker my grandmother watched the show every day 😄 passed away three years later
Mine passed 2 years ago she loved him too
It's amazing how nice and crisp the upscaled older 480p recording looks. Is there some super fancy CBS tech that's being leveraged for this?
Imagine being that one contestant and the host just straight up gives you the answer. Man's got a fortune.
@@GremmPaltakin aww. ;-;
That’s $11,000 today when adjusted for inflation, especially so with generally less than impressive minimum wage.
Well, they aren't going to fire Bob. I've never seen this game before but kind of figured you get a second chance to pick things in there.
Watched price is right this morning,,, BOB BARKER would be embarrassed!
I just can't watch Drew. I just won't! 🥴
“Santa Claus Barker” got me!
"HEY WAIT A MINUTE"
Looking back, I bet Bob would get a good chuckle out if this 😀
Oh this moment. I wanted to think it was this moment that led to the game transitioning to just a flat table later on. I know it wasn't for a few more years, but I always felt it was cringy to play the game with a ferris wheel as its set as it was ultra time consuming that way for example.
Those slacks are a riot!
Watching Price is Right clips while on lunch break is priceless to me, takes me right back to a sick day at home
I expected Bob to joke at the end: "If I still have a job when we get back after this message, we'll have our show case show down."
