My dad was always around. My step dad was not obligated to do anything for me. My dad verbally told him this but, for some reason my step dad and myself built a unbreakable bond. They are both gone and I cry the same for both of them!! I was blessed to have two dads!!! My dad never disappeared out of my life. My parents were married and got divorced. They both moved on and were grown about the situation. My dad taught me how to drive and my step dad taught me how to fix my ride!!! Best of both worlds!!!!!

It happened to me as well when i was 18 dated a girl who had a 1 year old child so we had to take him with us everywhere and we developed a strong bond id watch him while she was at work feed him change his diapers put him to sleep all that. After a year his father got out of prison and we broke up and it killed me because that meant the baby was gone as well. You live and learn… then you get cold 😂

Do you want to understand how you raise a man? Don't lie, you say what you do and do what you say, yeah it's hard work, but how are you going to teach those concepts now without living them in parallel? Women it's the same thing, but this is where you need a woman to do the same thing, since we look to our parents to understand and emulate if we grow. Raising children is literally in our genetic code, the key is to understand there are zero shortcuts, will always be zero shortcuts.
The reason the lady said love and be involved is because of course you're involved if you love that person why wouldn't you be? The answer here is insecurities, deep held shame and all that other stuff if you want to know the theory. It all breaks down to trust, and commitment to upholding this trust.
I went to private school so I know folks who got entire estates for their 16th but the poison of a gift given in guilt at something that is truly priceless will always manifest. For how big and important our parents were or whatever they did, when my old man said "you're my kid, I'll be there," then showed up, that is what mattered. Looking back now I understand the pride I felt but also I see the turmoil in some peers eyes as they start wondering what they're worth and what the bargain is...
I truly hope that one day you read a comment like this and can feel a sense of happiness for whomever this is, and just agree.

I can definetly see the wisdom in what he's saying. Me personally, I enjoyed raising step kids. I have my own as well......but I enjoyed helping bring up a person. Taking all of our kids on vacations, teaching them life lessons, and helping them through the difficult times. Parenthood and step parenthood were up there with the most gratifying expierences in life for me and seeing the adults they blossomed into. It isn't for everyone but I wouldn't trade it for anything.

I'm 28 and thats exactly what I want too. But look around you. Those days are over, our generation is degenerate and selfish. There will be very few strong families in the future. Single parent households in most of the world are between 3 and 7 %. Except in western societies like the US, Canada, UK where its like 23%. At this point in our society 1 in every 4 children will only have 1 parent in the home😢 at this point my options are to give up and coparent, or get extremely lucky and hope I find a woman with the same values as me. But those kinds of women are rare, so I'm not deluded enough to think there's one guaranteed out there for me. We're toast bro 😂 this isn't a society for true romantics

Personally, I don't think I could date someone who's still tied to their ex in any capacity. Maybe I'm insecure, but the thought of you still keeping in contact with someone that you now have a soul tie with feels like I'm intruding on a dead marriage where both parties are separated. Plus I don't like putting resources and interest into a kid that's not mine whose father is more than likely still active in his life. I honestly think you should marry the person if you have a child together. You're basically tied to life with that person for "better or worse" anyway.

Marrying someone you have a child with, to some guys, may sound good on the surface if the child or children don't have siblings from other men. If a woman also has other kids by a different father, then those children can legally become his "by default" and his money, assets, resources, and legacy becomes all the children's and potentially their real dad's and their dad's side of the family after a stepfather dies and if his biological child or children with his wife die (unless otherwise legally and appropriately stipulated). It may not sit well with some stepfathers to have another man or men (or their side of the family) potentially benefit from all his hard work or any money, resource, assets, and money the stepfather has left after death. Hopefully, if a man marries a woman with other children who are not his, then he can live with his decision.
Don't marry anyone you're not in love with, even if you have kids with them. It won't work because you'll be unhappy.

My BM tried to replace me with the new dude. I had to go through a lot. I tried to be cordial. Dude was talkin shit about me to my daughter. My BM wanted my daughter to call him step dad and all. I wasn’t having that at all. BM gets mad at me but fast forward a few years and they’re not together and now she a single mom with 3 kids and 2 baby daddy’s and she shares not 1 last name with any of the children🤦🏾♂️ I told this would happen and I was actually wanted to be a family that’s how I was raised. My parents were married for 54 years, Grandparents on mom’s side were married for 70 plus years until my grandma passed. Same thing on my father’s side. I was young and should’ve looked at her family life. Mom and dad not married so how does she know anything about keeping a family together she doesn’t cuz she’s never seen it with her family. One of the realist short lectures I’ve ever heard. I’m 43 now and was in that position twice in my life. Thank God I didn’t have children with either of those women and after I turned 35 I finally learned this through trial and error, in addition to hearing and listening to people like this guy.
He's definitely right!! Don't be a stepfather! And I'm not talking to anyone who's already in that role because that's your decision and I've been there which I'm not gonna go back! They also didn't mention that sometimes the kids get older and think they're stronger than you then as a man you need to he ready to defend yourself and show them who's boss. Then the kids could turn on you after all you've done for them and the father could be dead or not around and those kids will still respect him because that's their biological father. Not to mention if the biological fathers around, he's always gonna cause division in your relationship or household because he has a kid that you're taking care of and the woman that you care for and it's just best to get your own woman and start your own family. The Poconos makes it longer than it looks, but it’s straight Route 80 the whole way and if you’re going under 85mph you’ll have 18 wheelers passing you. It’s really 4 hours to cross PA but I built in an extra half hour on each end, to be generous.
