  • Weather Impact Meteorologist Chris Mulcahy says any show in Charlotte will most likely be flurries, with accumulation more likely east of Charlotte and along the Carolina coast.
"It's pretty bad when you're starting with a trace to an inch being the high point of your snow chances," Brad Panovich, WCNC Weather Impact Chief Meteorologist, said. "It's trending down to just basically flurries, which might be optimistic. Kind of tells you how limited the chances were to begin with, and they've even gone down from there."
Instead, Panovich says the bitter cold will be the story in Charlotte and western North Carolina this week. Highs will be in the 30s and low teens across the region. In the mountains, wind chills could drop to minus 15 in the mountains, where the first Extreme Cold Warning was issued. The foothills are under a Cold Weather Advisory, with wind chills down to 5 below zero possible.
Panovich says any time there's an arctic blast, the chance for snow can drop because the jetstream will push storm systems further south. That's why areas along the Gulf Coast are preparing for several inches of snow while we're dealing with just cold air.
"It's kind of a rare setup," Panovich said. "This doesn't happen all the time, but Arctic outbreaks tend to do this, where they push the storm track so far to the south."
To give you an idea of how rare this is, Panovich says some Gulf Coast areas, such as Panama City, Mobile, Alabama, New Orleans and Houston could see more snow this week than Charlotte's seen in the last three years.

Depends on how much moisture from the gulf fights the cold pushing down to the SE. if your as far inland as eastern Tennessee or NW sc you prob won’t see anything unless it shifts
