When you see the original you can appreciate how much of a masterpiece this interpretation is. The soul and timing in this arrangement is just brilliant. To be 9 years old and come up with this version is simply astonishing. She literally directed the band. I just can't get enough of that squeal. I can't stop listening to this version. I'm not sure if you would want to go back to 7 years old when she entered Norway's Got Talent, and won it all at 8, or jump to the present, when she is 15 to hear and watch her Studio Performance of her original, "7th Heaven". It is truly a conundrum when we try to rationalize how it is possible that this tiny sweet-faced 9yo Norwegian girl can step up to microphone, flip some switch within her, become this "beast-mode" version of herself (most probably named "AJ don't play"), deliver an extraordinary and musically and socially sophisticated performance, then just-like-that return to the pensive young lady once again... There aren't words for this! "I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video). She starts low, rising in intensity throughout and finishes in an unexpected and practically operatic style. You must go and listen to Hawkins' original (and throw in a couple of "famous" covers as well) to see the true genius in how AJ incorporates many of his vocal elements [usually omitted by most singers]. When you see the original you can appreciate how much of a masterpiece this interpretation is. The soul and timing in this arrangement is just brilliant. To be 9 years old and come up with this version is simply astonishing. She literally directed the band. I just can't get enough of that squeal. I can't stop listening to this version. Not only does Angelina understand a song; it’s meaning and emotion, she’s been able to convey this with her vast, gifted talents, especially with her mastery of her singing voice. The choices she makes with her phrasing and breath control are outstanding! This song uses more bells and whistles, than usual, but it doesn’t interfere with the song as it does with many. Voice experts have pointed out that at 9 she had to limit her growls, and such, to keep her voice healthy. At 16 she has proven she doesn’t need those embellishments to proof her greatness.
