Ina is successful all due in part to her meeting Martha Stewart. Martha produced her first few shows, got her first book published and wrote the forward in it. Ina wouldn't be famous without her connection to Martha Stewart.
Me, too. I was fortunate enough to see her on Katie Couric's book tour. She was Katie's guest in Atlanta and she seemed as genuine and wonderful in person.
I’m glad they put in the part about her not being a chef, because a lot of people make the mistake of calling her a chef. But it goes to show that just because you didn’t go to culinary school, it doesn’t mean you can’t be a talented cook, an exquisite baker, or a gourmet. Just like you don’t have to have an MFA to be an artist. We place way too much emphasis on formal education in this country-more than we do on talent or even ambition-and that’s a shame.
It takes a lot of courage to speak out loud about a less than idyllic childhood. I appreciate that Ina did so; it gives hope to see how far someone can come despite challenging beginnings.
I love that she was honest about not wanting to be a mother and that her husband supports her. I too feel that way but my ex wasn't supportive at all! I love Ina Gartens interviews.
As someone who religiously watched Ina as a young child to escape an abusive parent and miserable childhood, this hit really close to home. I also made the decision not to have children because of it, although I wish I got the same closure that Ina got.
Our oldest child is autistic, so we prepared most dinners at home. Our family dinners just might be the only normal thing we can accomplish. Most of my favorite recipes and food memories come from Ina. Like Jeffrey I absolutely adore her. ❤❤❤
Love Ina! Been a fan since page one book one and so lucky to have been gifted with every cookbook she has written. Her recipes never fail! She has upped my game in the kitchen beyond measure. My grown daughters love her as much as I do. On had an Ina Party where all the guests bring their favorite Ina recipe to share. Ina has clearly made our world so much more delicious!
Throughout my life, even back to grade school, I've known people who grew up in homes with one, sometimes two, alcoholics. Not one came through the experience unscathed.... every one had an addiction or compulsion in adulthood, trust issues and a propensity to be secretive---even to the point of lying whenever they felt vulnerable. I recall George Carlin once commenting that alcohol is responsible for destroying more families than cancer. An odd comparison of diseases but I think I know what he meant. You were extremely lucky not to have been abused. That was quite rare.
Her beautiful life in her gorgeous home in East Hampton, her gorgeous apartment in Paris, (oh, and over $100 million in the bank) …….what a wonderful life!!!
The family of the young boy already cleared this issue years ago! They said a representative of hers turned them down because she was on a scheduled book tour. But Ina did reach out to them to offer to schedule with the family. The boy ended up choosing to go swim with the dolphins instead. The family was ok with it and put out a statement on their blog because they felt that the whole thing was blown out of proportion and Ina was unfairly criticized for something she didn't do. Let it rest. The family has moved on. So should you.
Interesting that you are comparing them that way. Curious why? My guess is they do not compete or compare but embrace each other’s accomplishments. They are so lovely.
@@LisaMartinez-ri6veJeffrey Garten was Undersecretary of Commerce for International Trade for 2 years during the Clinton administration. But I'm sure your guess is correct.
This lady is so full of it and I can't believe there's people out here idolizing her. She some white privileged lady who decided she was bored with her government job in the white house so decided to open a shop in the Hamptons. I could not get through her book. If you want to learn about white privilege, read her book. The disconnection she has with reality is unreal. Right now that she's trying to sell her terrible book she wants to seem like this down to earth person with these smartly edited stories talking about her childhood and portraying herself as this "poor little me" character. But truth is she has been privledged and she should just write a recipe book and throw these small details about her life in there so those who admire her for her "cooking" can know more about her.
She has her husband, a fabulous career a tv show, lots of friends. And more money than most. Why is that empty? Children are not for everyone. She grew up in an abusive family. Maybe it scarred her. However,I applaud her personal decision. So don't be so judgmental about someone else's life. You are happy in your life ,so live YOUR LIFE with happiness knowing you made the right decision for you. PS. The only thing she doesn't have is a cat..........😊
Empty ? I don’t have kids and never wanted them and I love my life ! I’m sure her life is way more full than you who judge her ! She has amazing friends and a husband. .
This is the most honest I've ever seen her and I appreciate and love her even more now.

You wouldn’t think she had any problems growing up,with how warm and sweet she is,I love Ina Garten and her soothing way of cooking !
I am so happy for her, that she had closure with her father. So many who had abusive parents don't get that.
I can't believe she forgave him.
Thats why we become melancholic types whose arch enemies are cholorics.
I used to occasionally daydream of being a houseguest of Ina Garten.
I think she's a sensational woman, cook, and overall human being.🌺

Her nervous laughter while talking about the abuse really hit me in the gut.
I love her❤
God bless Ina.
I love the creativity in her cooking.
An all around remarkable woman. Bravo Ina!!
I have a lot of respect for her after this interview. She has lived her life for her, the way she wants to, not the way society says she should.
Love Ina. Every recipe I’ve ever made of hers has just worked.

Wish Jeffrey could be cloned. He is as lovely as Ina. He celebrates her and my deceased husband did the same with my accomplishments.

When I 1st saw her name and show I thought it was
In. A. Garden and they misspelled it on purpose. I didn't realize it was her name 😂😂😂😂

Did I miss the part about what she thought about retiring? Very nice interview, and I'm glad she got an apology from her father.

Jeffrey Garten is a very renowned economist. I daresay he's more accomplished than his wife.

@@alexthompson9516 yes Alex, let's diminish her accomplishments by archaically comparing her to her husband.
@@erinmh Archaic? She treats "Jeffrey" like a hapless teddy bear to the point where she got bored with him.
