I just moved to Denver, and I think it's worth a "survey" of recently completed projects. Frankly, I'm really impressed with the bevy of new buildings that have changed the city's look over the last 15 years -- an art museum, a courthouse, a performing arts complex, new sports stadiums and some gorgeous mid-rise business towers. No other American city, in my opinion, has grown so fast with so much good architectural taste. Denver's decisions seem to actually care about the eyes of the people who must face the built environment every day.

That was President Trump's (then citizen Trump's) first building project - - it TRANSFORMED the area

@ 1) I think the modern glass was fine + he added a cantilevered restaurant overlooking 42nd St. (the former facade was nothing to write home about + the area was known for its massage parlors (which he actually named in an off-the-cuff speech)
      2) YES - - I ABSOLUTELY AGREE - - that tower should NOT be built within 5-6 blocks of the Chrysler bldg. They’d be better off building it right across from the Javits Center (also courtesy of DJT) - which would be perfect bc it’d be right across the street from the brand new 7-train entrance. (B’twn Bella Abzug park + javits).

With work from home and hybrid models having caused a huge office vacancy rate in all major cities, one wonders if there is such a need for this colossal structure. But it's the massive disrespect towards the Chrysler Building across the street which appalls me. It's as if they want to hide the most beloved skyscraper in New York. You won't be able to view the Chrysler Building anymore from any direction except the East, and even then it will have the massive Commodore building right behind it serving as a backdrop. Did you notice how many times the Chrysler Building was shown in this video, proudly towering over Grand Central and the Hyatt? Well say goodbye to those views forever. I really hope this thing never gets built, or at least not at this location.

Basically the same thing that was done to the Palace Theater just on a much grander scale. Then, you lower it onto the newly-built floor space and you have a building that goes up 1,797 feet to project commodore's 1,581. The Chrysler gets to retain its position on the skyline but for a new era.

      Midtown 17.5%

Of course 270 Park Ave is 100% leased as well. This building, 175 Park Ave already has Hyatt leasing several floors and retail will easily fill the bottom floors with restaurants, bars and convenient stores. As soon as they secure at least one major office lease and get a loan it will go up. You also need to factor it that it will take 5 years to build, so demand by then will only be higher.

@@Engineering-Unveiled I like the chicago concept but I feel it should be moved into the heart of Chicago and have a transit station for bus & rail, such as a greyhound & city, subway & and amtrack.
The concept of building stadiums on the outskirts of communities is a 1960s concept when there wasn't substantial infrastructure debt, as in when everything was brand new and didn't have 50 years of wear and tare.
Simply put rural towns are now going back to gravel roads because they have to decide if they're going to be able to pay the teachers or have nice paved roads.
My prediction is that once the taboo of not raising federal gas taxes since 1993 has been breached, Gas prices will quickly double and then triple decades later from current price, that's an issue when people have a nuclear melt down over gas prices going up 20 cents a gallon.
Then there's the mental ruinous aspect of car dependency. Kids are esentially trapped in their backyard until they turn 18 as it's impractical to ask 5 freinds to all each walk 2 hours(1 hour of walking one way) to meet up.
By moving stadiums into communities you could then offer youth passes for local students to get them out of their houses to watch the team practice such as batting while they do their home work, and with a good public transit system it's practical for them to get off the internet and into their communities.
I coined the term "Backyard Gulag".

Two words: Eric. Adams. (I know that’s since melted down into a total piece of shit but you gotta’ hand it to ol’ man Giuliani…first, he and his team of crack prosecutors with help from the FBI and the Department of Justice’s passage of the RICO statutes basically eliminated what was Organized Crime’s former stranglehold on New York City’s concrete, construction, garment, meat packing, and waste management industries making it once again a business environment that the banks were willing to loan money for big projects again after not being willing to for decades due to in no small part, criminality’s strangle hold on Manhattan. So, he ends the Mob as they knew it back then. Then, he chaperones this country through NYC’s very darkest hours and lastly, he cleans up the streets of all five boroughs. Takes all the porn and titty bars out of Times Square and guess what? Everybody all of the sudden wanted to visit the city again, and they brought their families and their vacation dollars with them. Makes you wonder, what did he sell his honor for? How much did it cost Mr. Trump to buy Rudolph Giuliani?? As we all know he’s been dishonored, disbarred from ever practicing law again and is thought of by most as a bad joke. Oh, and he’s dead broke and will probably wind up living in a state funded retirement home because all of his assets have been stripped from him due to his fraud convictions. How much did it all cost Donald Trump, Rudy?? He never paid you most of what you were owed so, was it worth it?? I suppose my point is, the city certainly needs another guy to bring NYC back to its glory days which began right around 2003.

That base and sweeping upwards plus the crown do fit together very nicely as a tapering, grand structure. The real negative point is its immediate proximity to the Chrysler building.
This building will definitely break the view and the atmosphere of the neighborhood
I think of this iconic view at the bottom of Grand Central, with the Chrysler building.
A view that visitors and tourists love!
And there are still more than 60 million of them per year in the city…
    So it’s a shame.

    PROBLEM > SOLUTION:
PROBLEM: it DISGRACEFULLY OVERWHELMS + diminishes one of the GREATEST ALL-TIME ARCHITECTURAL MASTERPIECES OF DESIGN.
SOLUTION: Build it on the STATE-OWNED lot across from Javits Center (b'twn Javits main entry + Bella Abzug Park) - -
literally RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET from the BRAND NEW SPECTACULAR 7-train entrance.
(u won't have any of the engineering NIGHTMARES over GCS subways that will take F-O-R-E-V-E-R to build - - and NY'ers will APPROVE)

If the Hyatt had retained the facade of the old Commodore Hotel, then there would be a good argument for keeping it. However, the glass skin completely revised the look, and made it totally anonymous. As it stands, it is no loss.

In bodybuilding competitions there is a pose down where the contestants push themselves to the front of stage where the judges are centered. This building's bottom portion reminds me the bodybuilder who has choicest spot and most attention flexing his pecs and biceps along with using elbows against his neighboring rivals, (in this case, Grand Central Station and the Chrysler Building). While I am in favor of a new tower at the location, the tower at street level seems a little gimmicky and grandiose. I would like to see a more comprehensive plan that re-envisions the Grand Central Viaduct (after all Park Avenue is in for a re-do) integrated with a slightly more restrained bulk at the base. Onward and upward.

I honestly think they should put the tower on the left side of the Helmsley Building (if facing towards it from Park Avenue) in which the building that stands there is a concrete cube.
This decision would not dwarf the Chrysler Building as much, but this also means the Grand Hyatt Hotel wouldn't be demolished and would give it a chance to have its facade restored.

It is a huge tower at a time when people do not want to come in to work at the office, NYC is filled with crime, filthy rundown subway system, grimy dirty streets, litter everywhere, thugery, homelessness and drugs everywhere in pure daylight, less police to protect, and counteract crime, homicides, vandalism, etc, etc. NYC has lost its style, glam, opulence, it is nothing but a dysfunctional city that is mediocre infrastructure, police, rescue, emergency agencies, are reduced like never before. Why go ahead with this costly tiresome played out project. What is in it for the law abiding citizens that are poorer and run down, ignored, that are just trying to survive the violent, ugly jungle that NYC has become now in 2024 the 21st century.

The building's design is impressive but its way to large, too imposing, and painfully close to the deco architectural icon, the beautiful Chrysler Building!!! The city planners should never have approved this behemoth unless it was to be built at a respectable distance from such a beautiful, timeless building that many would agree, still after almost a hundred years one of the most iconic buildings ever built!!! Shame on the city planning department!!! 😵‍💫😡😲🥺😱
