How can government fund education when politicians are grossly overpaid. Nigeria is the only country where citizens do everything for themselves. We dig borehole to get water, generator for electricity, ma guard for security, pay school fees from primary school to university, and take care of medical bills. Politicians enjoy most of those things mentioned above free. That is the type of democracy we are practicing in Nigeria, the government of politicians by politicians, and for the politicians.

Because Nigerian universities have refused to evolve. There are Nigerians spending millions of dollars doing online degrees right from Nigeria because our universities will not allow working class people get a masters without coming into the classroom where they can have the chance to bully and frustrate the hell out of you. They must evolve and find ways to finance the universities

Sometimes I wonder if we are ok in this country. So if the discovery in the Chicago university shows that Tinubu did infact commit perjury, we should then just go on with our lives because it is too late to admit the evidence in the supreme court. We are really not well in this country.

It is obvious from Reuben's body language and manner of asking questions on the issues raised in during this interview his positions. Unfortunately, his positions do not align with integrity, honesty and sympathy for the masses. What is the big deal in Tinubu allowing his so called alma mater making public is academic records.

Employment after graduation is expected but when the government does not care about creating employment, what do you expect from the graduates to sit idle and do nothing. As a result of the government incompetence and lack of accountability, the graduates have no choice but to look elsewhere for gainful employment. It’s a shame.

Nigerian economy is being strangled by the exorbitant salaries of the senators and the members of House of Representatives. To be a politician is to serve your people and not a get rich venture. The politicians in Nigeria earn more money than their counterparts in developed countries. Lack of accountability allows frivolous and fraudulent spending which makes essential services like electricity, education, healthcare and so many social services suffer in a country that has so much resources.

public interest public good which is one the factors of Jurisprudence/advocacy, not necessarily for the corrupt Supreme Court(Judiciary) - Tinubu lied about his records; academic transcript will reveal who and what sex of student admitted and graduated.
Tinubu was hired by Nigerians - they have right to know - if corrupt INEC/Judiciary failed, Nigeria can’t fail.

When it came to 25% Falana could preempt the justices of the PEPC, but in attempt to protect his tribal man, he does not want to preempt the Supreme court. His sentiments are clearly betrayed. When it was Goodluck Jonathan, himself and Wole Soyinka were very unequivocal, but it is obvious they cannot rise above tribal sentiments.

What do you understand by "discovery"legally?"Discovery"simply means where an Applicant files an Application for the court to compel a public officer who has the custody of a public document to allow the Applicant to inspect that document and get "certified true copy"for it to be tendered before the court.
Tinubu is saying his academic Records at Chicago state University is not opened to others to get access to it without his written authority as provided under University Regulations.Atiku is saying he shall be given access to Tinubu's academic Records at Chicago state University for public interest. The question is does the Law of the united states provides exceptions to these Regulations when it comes to public interest? There is no such provision in the laws of the united states. That is why Tinubu is objecting to Atiku's Application for discovery.
Another question is: assuming, not conceding, that Atiku's Application succeeds and he is able to get the CTC of Tinubu's academic Records from Chicago state University, can the supreme court allow it to be tendered and admitted within the exceptional Rule of Re-hearing of evidence at Appeal level? The CTC of Tinubu's academic Records from Chicago state University were not tendered and wrongly rejected by the presidential Election petition Tribunal as trial court; and as such it does not fall under exceptional Rule of Re-hearing.
      You understand?

    • @jaywon_optimum
      @jaywon_optimum ปีที่แล้ว +1

@ibrahimmuhammad1569 The issue here if there's nothing hidden, why should a public office holder not want to make his record public. Secondly, assuming without conceding that the Supreme Court refuse to grant an exception to Atiku to submit any fresh evidence, what if there's something of public interest which any Nigerians with locus standi can pursue after PBAT tenure of office. What if also there's something that contradict PBAT current claim which can prevent him from contesting future elections. Finally, let's assume there's nothing in the discovery, will it not be in PBAT interest that after much noise, nothing is found against him. A clear conscience fear no accusations.

35% increase on salaries for Professors is too small at $500 per month, agreed but student fees must be kept at $25 for a year. But where do we get the funds to pay the cost of $2000 it costs every year to train each University student?

What I don't understand is why can't students school fees be determined by banks statements, pay slips or tax receipts of parents. Every student gets a percentage discount on school fees based on parameters such as household spending, parent's earnings, number of siblings etc... this is done in a lot of countries. By doing this, the rich can pay full amount and education can be subsidized for the truly deserving. I believe this sounds better than the so called 'educational loan' policy. This school fees thing is not a difficult issue to solve.

We all agree that Nigeria has been managed by bad leaders but right now things have to change but that’s not the case. In a country without a productive economic system with huge debt, the worst thing to do is increasing salaries. That means you keep on financing deficit by more borrowing and expecting government to pay for everything is not feasible. President Buhari tried to do it in order to please people but he has discovered that he has pleased nobody. Liberal economic policies are good on paper and sound good but the problem is it cannot be implemented in a free society.

      A law in the USA
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records.

    • @joshuafrank5838
      @joshuafrank5838 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      FERPA
Also commonly know as the Buckley Amendment, become law in November 1974 to protect the privacy of personally identifiable information in a student’s education record. However, the courts have been clear that not every document that names or refers to a student is a FERPA record and have typically limited the reach of the statute in a common-sense way to records that have something to do with educational activity.
      Disclosure of the Education Record
The law withholds federal funds from any school with “a policy or practice of permitting the release of education records” or of the “personally identifiable information” contained in those records, unless the adult student or parent has consented or another exception in the law applies. In other words, if a school has a policy or practice of improperly disclosing students’ education records (or not disclosing information it is required to disclose), it could potentially lose all federal funding.
FERPA serves a two-fold purpose: (1) to grant parents (and students 18 or older) access to information in the student’s education record, and (2) to protect that information from disclosure to third parties without parental consent.
It is crucial to note that FERPA only prevents the disclosure of education records. Nevertheless, schools and colleges persistently cite FERPA as a convenient all-purpose excuse to deny journalists’ requests for public records
      What is an education record?
There are two essential criteria for a document to be considered part of an “education record” under FERPA: (1) the record must “directly relate” to a student, and (2) must be “maintained by an educational agency or institution or by a person acting for such agency or institution.”

Where you read parents replace it with adult in this case tinubu
      Commonly Asked Questions
      Q. Who (other than parents) must a school official allow to see an education record of a student?
      A. School officials are not required to allow anyone other than the parents to see the education records of a student; the exceptions allowing the release are circumstances stipulated by federal or state laws, such as government-required audits, evaluations, or court orders. See section 6D; also see a detailed discussion of the federal statutes in section 2B.
      Q. Which public officials have access to education records without consent of a parent?
      A. School officials with a “legitimate educational interest” in the information have access to education records without specific consent of parents or eligible students. Policies defining officials who may receive information without prior consent must be accessible to parents for review. FERPA also permits other disclosures of information from education records without consent, usually for educational purposes. For examples, schools may disclose information on students to state or local educational authorities for audit or evaluation of federal or state supported education programs, or for the enforcement of federal legal requirements relating to those programs (such as IDEA). This condition for disclosure without consent does not generally extend to other state agencies.
      Q. If a parent makes information about a student public, must school officials keep that piece of information confidential?
      A. Yes, school officials should not respond to information made public by a parent, such as to the media, without consent from the parent. See section 6C.
      Q. Must a school official release a student’s record to a family lawyer?
      A. A school official does not have to release a record of a student to his or her family lawyer, but may do so upon receipt of a prior written consent from the parent, unless the school is assured that the attorney is asking on behalf of the parent. See section 6D.
      Q. What penalties apply to the misuse or improper disclosure of confidential information?
      A. The penalty for noncompliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA) can be withdrawal of U.S. Department of Education funds from the institution or agency that has violated the law. This applies to schools, school districts, and state education agencies. The Family Policy Compliance Office of the U.S. Department of Education, charged with reviewing and investigating complaints, seeks to promote voluntary compliance with the law. A third party who improperly discloses personally identifiable information from student records can be prohibited from receiving access to records at the education agency or institution for at least 5 years. State laws on privacy may also apply penalties.
      Q. What are the liabilities or penalties if an education agency or institution violates FERPA?
      A. An education agency or institution subject to FERPA may not have a policy or practice of disclosing education records, or nondirectory, personally identifiable information from education records, without the written consent of the parent or eligible student, except as allowed by law. If a complaint is received by the Department of Education alleging a violation of FERPA, the FPCO investigates the complaint to determine if a violation of FERPA occurred. If a school is found to be out of compliance with FERPA, the FPCO works to bring the school into voluntary compliance with the law. If voluntary compliance is not achieved, then a school would be in jeopardy of losing federal education dollars. There is no private cause of action (right to sue) under FERPA and, in 2002, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Gonzaga University v. John Doe that students and parents may not sue for damages under 42 USC § 1983 to enforce provisions of FERPA.
      Q. What are the consequences of a third party’s misuse of education records?
      A. School officials must inform third parties receiving information, as allowed under FERPA, of the requirements concerning redisclosure of information. If a third party is found to have improperly redisclosed personally identifiable information from education records, the school may not allow that third party access to information for at least 5 years.
