  • An ancient idea is that the mystery of consciousness and the mystery of existence are deeply connected. Today there are a number of respected physicists and philosophers who take this possibility seriously. In this documentary, we explore the possible connection between these two great mysteries.

@@slister45 There might be an intriguing facet to the spiral in that it leads both inwards and outwards. Returning us to the true Centre or divine core, a renewed understanding of what we know (have always known) in our heart of hearts. Whilst its apparent expansion may speak of providence, becoming, the properties of destiny, serendipity and what we might call fate. And of course a fractal animation can run in either direction too. Mysteriously, miraculously 'both - and' inwards and outwards. I am reminded of that Moody Blues song from 1969 'Out and In' in their mystic days.

when i taught meditation and was a guide for wilderness trips , the topic of past and future often arose . i came up with this simple intellectual exercise to emphasize that there is only this moment . past and future do not exist except as concepts -
think of something that happened to you yesterday or some time
ago. Now ask yourself " When am i thinking or remembering this past event ?"
Now do the same for a future plan .
make a plan for this weekend .
now again , ask , " WHEN am i making this plan ?"
The answer is always NOW. even if you repeat the exercise five years from now , it will still NOW.

It is important to mention that this topic has been extensively explored and understood by ancient Hindu philosophers and Upanishads are the key texts which predates any timelines mentioned in this wonderful documentary. Adi Shankaracharya who lived 1200 years ago and more recent times by well known Swami Vivekananda has postulated Advaitha Vedanta which has Consciousness at its heart.

" It's as if this slippery phenomenon called 'self consciousness' lifted itself up by it's own bootstraps, almost as if it had made itself out of nothing." If you remove religion and the word god for a few moments from your mind and truly "think out of the box" and think in terms of a creating one and whole, without form as it is not a 'thing' to see, touch or hold and smell nor in any human form , you will find consciousness. Because it IS consciousness. It is the life force. It is in Every-thing. Consciousness is an Action, and is always in motion becoming more than it is. E very-thing holds consciousness but consciousness has different states of being. Like a flower has it's own consciousness in knowing that it is a flower and can feel, but cannot think in the capacity humans do. In understanding this small simple thinking out of the box about consciousness, Scientists will find their answers. Just saying!

Adrian, your writing and production is second to none! Please don't stop! Your perspective is valued by many!
I believe what Max Planck said is correct: Consciousness is fundamental, matter is derivative from Consciousness.
The Mind requires a mechanism to understand how it could be that matter is derivative from Consciousness.
I suggest that mechanism is Perception In Consciousness.
If you can be made to accept that what you perceive is reality, what need is there for an actual objective physical reality? It would be redundant, and parsimony demands the simplest answer with the fewest assumptions.
    Here are some basic assumptions:
We exist within a Consciousness Singularity, like a black hole made of Consciousness. Primary Consciousness.
We are partitioned bits of Primary Consciousness, holographically and fractally identical to Primary Consciousness, but with a separate self-awareness and point of view.
We are of, by, and within Consciousness.
We enter these limited iterations in order to evolve. We contribute our experience, Our Story to the Whole.
We do not physically exist. Therefore we cannot physically die. We transition to another Perception In Consciousness, as Near Death Experiences (NDEs) clearly indicate, experiences frequently described as much more real than real.
We're in an arena of choice & consequence with linear time progression.
In reality, we are timeless, eternal beings with a purpose.
Not some random fluke of natural law are we, but a deliberately created Consciousness in act of mental mitosis by Primary Consciousness, giving of itself for us to become who we are.
The Whole is incomplete without each and every one of us. We are unique. We have inherent value, meaning, and purpose.
The Whole is of a scale inconceivable to minds within human constraints.
Not simulation, not hallucination, not illusion. It is Perception.
    Perception In Consciousness.

Unless and until you address *Whose* consciousness and *Of_What* you might as well forget all about consciousness which is utterly meaningless in vaccuo without specifying and identifying Whose* consciousness and *Of_What*.
It is axiomatic that you can experience nothing of consciousness other than whatever consciousness you yourself can experience and *Of_what*. You may care to consider Nietzsche' idea that suffering is the source of consciousness which word means *with_knowledge* or just knowing, because that is what it both means and *Is* .
Of course different beings will understand or define know or knowing, differently.
Idefine knowledge or knowing as direct immediate personal experience(as direct immediate and personal as pain). Can you improve on that?-If so pleaase do and tell me what your definition is.
I came to my definition when trying to distinguish knowledge from belief and when I was asking what would be a good example of or benchmark for, knowledge; or I know X as I know what?-and what came to me was as I *Know that the thing on the end of my left leg is my left foot as being s as clear and definite example of knowing I could find and then boiled knowledge or knowing down to direct immediate personal experience-*As* direct immediate and personal as pain.
Can you improve on that or fault it? If so, please do.

Something that at the time was strange to even comprehend but something that all great musters of spirituality have done, to sit and observe as if there’s something magical that has more meaning than any activity in contrast. So when this theory culminates as to we been the eyes of the universe, I can only agree, it is us and our existence that give meaning to existence it self.

The chapter, that impressed me most was about Idealism, and especially Friedrich Schelling, the most deep thinking and radical of them. Reading the quotes of Friedrich Schelling gave me tremendous shivers and the feeling, that he had found something very deep.

Another amazing documentary. The topics you cover are fascinating and I hope you continue making more documentaries for your page because I believe it will help your great channel grow even more. As someone who is not religious I have never been satisfied with the materialistic atheist view of existence. More and more I started thinking about it and realized something must be eternal and anything that is eternal conflicts with the rational scientific way we perceive our physical reality and universe.
Some may consider eternal mathematics, physical forces, multiverse being more rational than eternal consciousness but it is not. They are all irrational from our current understanding of reality with all things needing a cause and having a beginning, present, and end. True eternal nothingness cannot exist without nothingness being eternal. Any way in which something can be created from nothing would mean there is a "law" that would allow nothingness to conjure up something which would mean that nothingness never existed in the first place. There must be some eternal element to existence and it seems the most logical is consciousness.
Eternal quantum mechanics cannot conjure up particles from a void of nothingness. Eternal consciousness can create material existence from nothing as the material is only an illusion created and experienced by consciousness.

Consciousness is all that really exists. Everything is an expression of consciousness. Consciousness doesn't have to give rise to anything, because nothing else exists. Consciousness simply is. Expression is part of it's nature and there appears to be a bunch of different stuff as a result of this expression.

I'm not really disagreeing with you, but have never studied any school or system of religious or spiritual thought. I've read and been influenced by traditional thinking, but been basically observing and distilling my own experiences. I had a complete spontaneous kundalini awakening in 1978 I've also never been to college and even quit high school after eleventh grade. I'm not too agreeable towards book learning about spiritual matters, but am not against it. Meditation is the king of tools when it comes to the exploration of the nature of existence.
My point is that what we know of as our awareness is not only the very same awareness that's in all aware creatures, but is also that which we are aware of. Regardless of the terms used, the concepts that are currently being juxtaposed in the media are (C)onsciousness/(A)wareness as fundamental vs emergent. I have little interest in using traditional language, but do value the correct usage of language. Many people are turned off by traditional contexts. For example; I can explain Christian theology in biblical terms and people will be vehemently offended, but if I explain in my own words, even if they don't agree, they won't be offended and may even consider the concepts. Everything we know and say is just a particular way of connecting the dots. There is truth, but any explanation of it is not it.
"In recent years..." I've known the word consciousness in this context for about 50 years. Yes this is a drop in the bucket historically, but when you say recent years, I think of five or ten years.
I don't see us as having separate or our own minds, but a connection to the mind of God or Universal Mind. It's like a terminal to a mainframe of a client computer to a server or network. The brains of living creatures are like the hardware, as you state, and nervous systems are like the antennae, receiving and transmitting. The more developed the brain and nervous system, the more sophisticated the consciousness that's exhibited.
Once duality is transcended, there is no separation, thus no knower and known - no observer and observed, so everything that can be said is from the world of multiplicity or diversity.
Not only is the brain like a computer, but intelligence is like processing power, which is a function of clock speed times bandwidth or how quickly one processes information times the amount of information processed at once/per cycle.
Additionally, perception of the world is a digital sampling of an analog reality. Like the digitizing of an analog music signal, there is a sample rate and bit depth. Everyone has a slightly (or not so slightly) different sample rate and bit depth. Some people are [relatively] high resolution and some are [relatively] low resolution.
I wanted to share my points of view on all your points, but it began to seem like you were just espousing others' teaching rather than expressing the assimilation of your own experiences. Plus, I just don't have the time tonight. My browser is responding very slowly to my typing, too. I appreciate your response to my original comment as it gives me a chance to work out my thoughts. I've spent the last 25 years raiding four kids, mostly on my own, and am just getting back to my former purpose/interests. I live where i encounter very few other people and none of them are interested in this stuff. 😎
I wish I could get a single space between paragraphs, but if I use a single return, when posted my comments contain no space at all. If I use two returns, I get two spaces. Do you use a single return between paragraphs?

This is correct. There would be no reality without consciousness. I am a physicist who has researched the nature of physical and nonphysical reality for more than 40 years. The physical reality we experience as humans is only a simulation using fractal algorithms that create the world around us. The body is like an avatar that is used by the consciousness to operate within and experience this reality.

I am today almost 86, but I remember vividly the instant as a baby, when I became conscient. My mother told me years later, that I was nine months old, and called "mama" To become conscient, from the baby 's sleep, is exactly like when waking up in our life. Reality is there to welcome us in its embrace. It was for me as a baby a strong feeling of awakening to the reality of life and the universe. The way it happened is the following: I was in the arms of one of my older sisters, Maria or Stina. The first time I became awaken and conscient was for about 35 seconds, then I fell back in my baby's deep sleep. The day after, same situation, in the arms of one of my sisters. This time I came to reality to stay, and I called mama!. As a baby, to be conscient of awakening to life is exceptional. I try to make of this memory something that could clarify a special reality of life and consciousness together for myself and for scientists like yourself.

There is a simple solution to the problem of consciousness and existence. More and more we are discovering that the basic principles that our universe operates under are consistent with data encoding and error correction mechanisms. As we humans discover as we begin to emulate reality in games and other media, we understand that rendering a scene is the most resource-intensive. As a result, we only render a part of scenes where an observer or a viewer sees. The rest of the scenes not rendered runs as background calculations. So, even if any conscious observer is absent, the existence will still run as background calculations without being rendered as reality.

I think you missed the problem here. If reality comes from the imagination, and the imagination forms with in reality, you end up with a chicken and the egg problem, and fall in to an infinite regress of events.
While I find it an interesting thought, I don't see any reason to believe that there was someone or something to imagine the universe if you're saying the imagination came first.
While this can all be fun and interesting to think and speculate about, I'm having the same problem here as I did with the video. That being a lack of evidence or argument to demonstrate there is any truth behind the idea. The video was well made, but all it did was make a bunch of claims without providing any evidence for them, just speculation and pointing to a bunch of things we don't fully understand ie: consciousness, quantum mechanics, and the origin of the universe.
