8:16 Actually I'm pretty sure I heard that Treefingers was composed entirely out of guitars, through Ed playing loads of guitar loops and tons of effects.
OK Computer made a generation of rock. Kid A made another generation of rock. In Rainbows made another generation of music itself since it's success is the sole reason why Bandcamp exists. Absolute legends.
Thank you. Part two was intriguing. It captures you. I would love to hear Tom Waits do a cover of Motion Picture Soundtrack. I’ve have probably listened to this and Rain Dogs more than any other two albums. I don’t know what that says of me but hell, I still so enjoy them. I feel so lucky to live in a time where all these landmark records were created. And the past keeps revealing gems. I was a baby when The Beatles were finishing up their last two albums and Elton John was capturing my ear as a tot. I had gone through school, finally learning how to learn, getting a degree, learing at the future and my misdirection. What a great soundtrack for life, love, emotion and motion. It still feels like it was made for a future that hasn’t occurred. He drops lyrics that can just break my heart to music that brings out tears. An emotional chemical reaction. Keep up the interesting work.
Tracks ranked imo.. 1. Motion Picture Soundtrack 2. How To Disappear Completely 3. Everything In Its Right Place 4. The National Anthem 5. Optimistic 6. Idioteque 7. In Limbo 8. KID A 9. Morning Bell 10. Treefingers In no way are any of the bottom 5 tracks bad but someone has to take the boot..
I would agree with the first 4, but for me, the last 6 would go like this: 5- Morning Bell 6- Idioteque 7- Kid A 8- Optimistic 9- In Limbo 10- Treefingers
KID A was the album that got me into them. I remember watching them perform Idiotique on SNL and I thought....who are these guys...I need to learn everything I can about them...
This was a really great video man, I really enjoyed it, especially after listening to the album beforehand. However, I think re-watching the video and fixing your errors would be super helpful, it’s boring to do, but there are some really easily fixed issues (voice over pacing, cuts, transitions, etc.) that are pretty distracting throughout. Apart from that, this video is super professional.
Love your videos but I am not a fan of the new reverb effect you've been using when reading a quote from the act. Other than that, another quality video! I'm not sure if you're a fan but I would love to see a closer look at Jon Hopkins' albums 'Singularity' and 'Immunity'.
Just a heads up they did use guitar on Treefingers as the entire song was made by using cuts from Ed O'Brian messing about with a weird synth guitar thing he made
Volksgeist you guys should research Top Dogg & TDE and make a video for us, cuz theres no pretty much no information about him on TH-cam (Love ur guy’s movement btw)
Could you please make a video on: The Caretaker - everywhere at the end of time (Stage 1 - 6) i think its really the greatest music out there. Or read about it it has a big meaning
Another massive influence in Kid A, I think, was Björk. I mean Pluto, a song 3 years older than Kid A, sounds very Idioteque: th-cam.com/video/akp65xXEhWc/w-d-xo.html
Yeah Thom even called Unravel from Homogenic his favourite song of all time, a song they later covered a couple of times. I also hear similarities to the song in Motion Picture Soundtrack, and the primitive yet timeless electronic elements of both albums overall show a clear inspiration. Though with her being a one of a kind genius and everything, its no surprise these elements struck a chord with Thom.

FYI, TREEFINGERS IS ED'S GUITAR
a moon shaped pool and how heartbreaking it is
8:16 Actually I'm pretty sure I heard that Treefingers was composed entirely out of guitars, through Ed playing loads of guitar loops and tons of effects.
this is true
Yeah as soon as I heard him say that I was about to comment it
Yep! Many of the esoteric sounds on post Ok Computer songs are constructed by Ed and his guitar (and army of pedals).
Treefingers is such a trip , Kid A in general just has this farout Kubrick flavor to it
@@hippiecheezburger5457 haha my favorite movie is 2001 and my favorite album is Kid A

So refreshing to see a genuinely well-researched, deep and interesting video essay on music. Great work!
Shaping up to be one of your best work. Keep it up!!! 👌🏿👌🏿👌🏿
I cant believe Kid A exists, it truly is like nothing I've ever heard before.

Morning Bell is a top 5 Radiohead song IMO
nah mate
I respect it but for me idioteque is the best song on the album
Wait wait wait...we’re ranking songs now? Jesus
Love bro. Go as much, and as deep as you can with these instrumental artists. Genius is reflections.
Treefingers is actually comprised only of Ed O’Brien guitar samples, which Yorke cut up and mixed into an instrumental.
KID A was the album that got me into them. I remember watching them perform Idiotique on SNL and I thought....who are these guys...I need to learn everything I can about them...
Thank you for detailed analysis of this brilliant album, it definitely made me want to listen again.
Great video I've been a fan of radiohead since 95 and hope they come out with something new soon!
I really enjoyed both the videos on KID A, absolutely brilliant!! It would be very interesting to hear your thoughts on OK computer too

amazing video man!
Great detail presentation on KID A I Love Your Channel
10/10 video
Treefingers was actually made using guitars though.

Ed and Phil both wanted to continue making guitar music, so idk about saying radiohead was flat out sick of guitars. awesome video though
Absolutely brilliant video explaining a pivotal album. Very well done.
What's is the song on 11:30?
amazing video! notifications on !
What songs are playing in the background at 8:56 and 11:31?
I definitely need to know the song at 8:56!
Just a heads up they did use guitar on Treefingers as the entire song was made by using cuts from Ed O'Brian messing about with a weird synth guitar thing he made
very interesting video, thank you!

Well, congrats
Is there a reason young Thom sounds exactly like 2D from the Gorillaz?
How many parts will their be?
What were the non Kid A songs that played on the background?

@@TheMikenanners yes, it also has a organ sound like MPS
While this video gets fewer views and likes than a lil uzi very video, I find it ten times more interesting
Same and I’m not even a particularly big Radiohead fan
Can you do a video on Joey Bada$$
good video
What is the background song at 10:00?
Strings and Brass?
Whats the song on 11:31 ?
shoutout the connecticut music nerds (volksgeist, fantano)
Whats the name of bg music
there is something very sad on his eyes
Good video. Kinda not fucking with the reverb effect on quotes plus the facecam. Kinda cucks the atmosphere
JESUS, TAKE EASY ON THE ADS!!!
You claim that Treefingers doesn't feature any guitar but the song is literally just a chopped up sample of guitar...

Understanding MF DOOM
