When you have so much quality choice, there isn't enough hours to fully appreciate all the talent.
It was my growing up children, that introduced me to all the superb sounds that I had passed by.
After a diet of Beatles, Rolling Stones, Dylan, Donovan, and T Rex
Queen, Pink Floyd, Dire Straits were introduced to me when I started to appreciate long since e dead musical masters.

There's a reason that, before Thriller and Bad, this was the best-selling album of all time. Three fabulous songwriters at the top of their game. Tons of emotional tension. And a scandalously underrated rhythm section. It's hard to go wrong with anything off this (or its predecessor, Fleetwood Mac). If you're looking for more, You Make Loving Fun is a great Christine McVie showcase.

You got it 100% right - Fleetwood Mac are one of those bands who take you on a journey through their career as they explore music, through all kinds of sounds and genres, techniques and styles, yet always with certain hallmarks. Every album was opening up a whole new vista in their journey through all the possibilities of music, and they took us with them. But you already know what is the hallmark part, even after just a few songs - their ear for the completeness of the track. They have a way of filling, balancing, making an incredibly rich and deep sound, of every track they do, in a way few other bands can. Think of how, in 'The Chain', so much of the song wasn't just in the sounds, but in the pace, the tempo, and even the pauses, and how they played with the tempo of all the different sections to lift you up, carry you along, put you back down to see what was around you, then carry you again. This track, 'Go Your Own Way', has a more solid sense of impetus all through, a driving force with velocity, yet so richly textured and layered. The emotion was also powerful (the song was written by one of the band breaking up from another, and performed by both). One of my all-time favourites of theirs is "Everywhere", which is hauntingly beautiful, and again, different to anything else, taking us on another part of their incredible journey of exploring all the different styles of music they wanted to share.

The genius of Lindsey Buckingham. He's the lead singer and guitar on Go Your Own Way AND The Chain , and he's the producer/arranger most repsonsible for the the band's sound, and the fact that they have (as you stated in your reaction) a variety of sounds. The Mac had three songwriters in the Rumours era lineup, but even with Christine's and Stevie's songs, Lindsey took their raw songs and added the counter melodies, the chord progressions, harmonies, and all the little nuances you're digging. Add to that, John's cool bass lines and Mick's superb drumming and well, there ya go.

The crazy thing is that this song came off the same ALBUM as "The Chain" and "Dreams." "Never Going Home Again" is on the same album, and feels different.
The Buckingham-era Fleetwood Mac song that I feel gets slept on is "I'm So Afraid." Got some of the hardest-rocking guitar work Lindsey ever did on it. I also like "Big Love" from their 80's period.
Pre-Buckingham/Nicks joining, they had a few cool songs like "Albatross," but they were a much different, bluesier band back then. They really changed a lot over the years, and that eclecticism is one of the things that makes them so great, I think.

The reason they have so many distinct sounds is they have three members who can write hit songs, and all three can sing lead. This one was written and sung by the guitarist Lindsay Buckingham. The two ladies in the group, Christine McVie and Stevie Nicks also wrote and sung lead. Lindsay and Stevie were going through a breakup at the time. This was his song to her. Dreams was her song to him.

Great reaction! As you said, this band is so versatile with their sound, yet all of their songs are distinctively Fleetwood Mac - it’s a unique sound. Tusk, Rhihana, Landslide, Gold Dust Woman- they have so many phenomenal songs.

Being used to FM as a blues group, Buckingham and Nicks really brought them to a different level!

Great reaction - nice to see a new generation discovering Fleetwood Mac. Adding my vote for Gold Dust Woman, which may be my favorite song from Rumours. The album cut is perfect, but Stevie Nicks also did a great 8 minute live version with several of the band members (th-cam.com/video/lXrb0DU4ko4/w-d-xo.html). Rhiannon, Landslide and Silver Springs are all incredible as well.
And you might want to check out Stevie Nicks’ duet with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Stop Dragging My Heart Around.

Stevie Nicks' vocals in "Silver Springs" make this song some of Fleetwood Mac fan's favorite song of all. The way she bends her voice singing the word "me" almost makes it sound like she is singing two notes at once.

The reason Fleetwood Mac has such diversity is the bands lineup over the years starting w/ Peter Green and and then Bob Welch and Christine McVie. With the addition of Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham along with Christine, FM became a powerhouse.

Then move on to Ride My Seesaw, The Word/Om, Higher and Higher, Procession/The Story in Your Eyes, The Voice, and Question.... These are just appetizers... The banquet is laid out deep down the rabbit hole as you will discover... Enjoy the journey my friend!!
