Great advice! I visualize an attentive crowd, overflowing tip jar, and the manager saying "When can we have you back next?"

Having a story prepared for EVERY song is a great idea. Even if you don't always use it, it is a good way to keep the audience engaged while people tune, switch guitars, etc and you can improv with something you have prepared. 💯

I know a tribute band artist who records every show and listens to it. He learned a lot doing that.

I've met plenty of performers that fail because they don't recognize their mistakes. It's a process to learn what your saying. Great advice. Thanks for sharing. ❤

The number of bands i've seen are easily in the 4 digits and I have never seen a single band be self deprecating on stage

My first thought too. If anything, I’d give advice to not be arrogant on stage, it can work but usually..not so much.

No time for meditating. We have to get equipment set up and make sure everything is working and set to go before the clock runs out. But it's a good idea to relax, have fun and no worrying. The audience picks up on the vibe that the band is putting out and confidence goes a long way. Of course if you're doing shows with roadies to set up equipment, enjoy.

My band played our first gig recently. Guitarist made a complete mess of it. He was in the wrong tuning, didn't know how to use his tuner, and then broke his bottom string. He didn't have any sort of back up guitar and he insisted on continuing with the gig even though he couldn't really play the parts without the main string.
It was a horrible mess of a gig.
The scary thing was that he came of stage and said he thought it had gone well. I said I disagreed and asked what on earth happened with his guitar. He replied that he'd broken a string, which was just bad luck. He didn't even acknowledge getting his tuning wrong. Acted like he didn't know what I was talking about. And then tried to make me feel bad about 'blaming him unfairly'.
All I wanted was for him to start taking rehearsals and prep seriously so he doesn't make a right mess of things again. But instead of acknowledging what he needs to do to improve, he just got really hung up on the idea that I was picking on him. Any discussion of how to tighten up the set, make sure gear is working and so on just got ignored as it was written off as my picking on him.
    I had to walk away.

there is a way of doing it which is amusing and funny, and a way of doing it which looks like self-obsessed inverted narcissism. one makes you more likeable, the other less.

Btw : it's possible to do meditation without an app. It is, actually... the whole point, of meditation. (I get that people might need help to start with but I'm really tired of people promoting meditation ONLY through apps - if you need help, you can also attend guided meditations in churches or temples (even community centers offers those now) and then you can connect with the community as well and get real tips, from REAL people)

And please, please, please! Invest in learning stage presence, that includes how you talk to the audience and how you move in stage, moves that seem nonsense and that make you look epileptic, only tell the audience that you are not super star material, before the G3 shows, Joe Satriani was static in front of the mic, playing beautiful music perfectly, but his level of connection with the audience wasn’t adequate, after the G3 1st gen shows, his solo shows were totally different, he learnt moves and you could see how he moved all along the stage and wasn’t static any more, where that change came from? It came from Steve Vai, he knows how to handle the stage and am almost sure he told Satch “you could improve your show doing this… :

I don't want to be the negative comment but why so many sport analogies? Why not use some more anecdotes about musicians? The analogies work but for people who don't follow sport or aren't familiar with a lot of aspects of sport, it's a bit hard to find a connection.
