    I know the 3.0 octane battery uses 21700 cells. And the old 4.0 and new 4.0 max output use 18650 cells, the difference is most likely in the amp rating of the cells in those two batteries. Do you wanna open them up so we know for sure? 😊 great video thanks!

    Oh man, thanks for this video cause @ 2:55 you just confirmed what I was noticing with my brand new 4A same battery I just got in combo kit that was on clearance at Home Depot! I was putting in slightly smaller diameter but longer lag bolts into my new Gazebo build and the drill was just stopping as I drilled in!
    Anyways on a really happy note I just recently LSA'd 2 / 3Amp older regular (2014 model) batteries that just weren't pulling any cranks anymore and the process was a breeze and within 5 days I received 2 / 3Amp Bluetooth Octane Batteries! Wasn't this a surprise I learned after watching your video! Now come to think of it when I used them batteries my drill didn't stop~

    I don't like what Ridgid is doing with their tool line. They're newer stuff now looks more like a Ryobi tool and clearly their new "Max output" batteries are weaker than their octane line. They are also not having any significant sales at all this Father's Day. Most of your other manufacturers are. Milwaukee Makita Ryobi DeWalt. This will certainly discourage rigid tool sales. Have we seen the end of contractor grade rigid tools?

    • @ToolswithSoAlz
      @ToolswithSoAlz  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I see where you're coming from here but there are a couple of things we need to remember. As for the look, they are now offering three different tiers so some are going to look more basic than others. Overall, I have been very happy with the Max Output. With the exception of the hammer drill, all of the remaining tools far outperform their Octane counterparts. I did a video where I put the Octane impact driver up against the new Max Output and the Octane lost handily.
      The other thing we often forget is that the 3ah Octane battery is currently the only Ridgid battery that has 21700 cells in it. I know Ridgid has committed to two higher amp hour batteries having the 21700 cells but those won't be out until late in the year. When you compare the regular 4ah battery to the Max Output, as I did, then you quickly see the MO crushes the regular.
      I don't work for, get paid by or even acknowledged from Ridgid. So, I am far from being their cheerleader. I'm just trying to relay what I understand from Ridgid's videos and news releases. I hope you enjoyed the video and found some value in it.

    I loved Ridgid tools but don’t know what they are up to with these new batteries. I’ve bought my first Milwaukee tools last week. Slowly heading that direction. Thanks for showing us the difference in the octane battery and the max output

    • @ToolswithSoAlz
      @ToolswithSoAlz  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Honestly, I think the Max Output batteries will be an improvement in the end. The 3ah Octane was the only one that had the 21700 cells and that does supply extra power. However, Ridgid is going to have a 6 and 8ah battery coming out later this year that are both going to have those bigger cells. It's pretty encouraging because it has only been the higher end professional grade tools that had that.
      Now, I understand going to Milwaukee. They are probably the best overall brand on the market. You do always know you're getting a top of the line tool and an expansive lineup with them. So, I am certainly not going to knock anyone moving in that direction. I don't know if they represent the best value on the market any longer but I have a series, I just started, that looks to answer that very thing.

    I'd sure like to know what cells Ridgid is putting in their "Max" Output batteries so I could get a clue if whether it's either the cells or a current-limited BMS holding the battery back. That way, I can see if I can get some Octane levels of output by swapping high-end cells into an old, worn 4Ah pack.
    Heck, if I find out the BMS isn't the limiting factor, I'm putting in some 35A 18650s in an otherwise working 2Ah 5-cell pack I found in the Home Depot recycling bin!

    • @ToolswithSoAlz
      @ToolswithSoAlz  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ToolswithSoAlz Do you think the drill test using the octane bat and max bat was not a good comparison due to the drill being at an angle with the Max bat? Also, I have a Gen5 drill, not hammer drill, rated at 650 inch lbs. Do you feel that the Max drill rated at 800 inch lbs truly rated and more powerful? The Max drill does use the outer connections, same as an Octane tool. The Gen5 does not have those extra outside connections. Thanks

    • @ToolswithSoAlz
      @ToolswithSoAlz  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Max Output drill is more powerful than the Gen5X drill. Even the subcompact has been tested to be more capable than the Gen5X. Having the fastener go a little sideways doesn't take much away from the performance of the drill. I've tested it multiple times and even tried using it in the field. It's a good tool but not a great one.

    It will be years before Ridgid catches up to Milwaukee. Sure they are cheaper I’ve always bought that way. Used them for years , I’m a electrical contractor but the compact size and extra power is worth it with the red , also the selection is unbelievable. I’ve waited for years for a Ridgid chainsaw. They are behind the times. Home Depot pushing ryobi why would they have such a extensive line up vs Ridgid. Ridgid relies on marking with the fancy names. I still own plenty of Ridgid tools and love the 3.0 octane battery

    • @ToolswithSoAlz
      @ToolswithSoAlz  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't know that Emerson really wants or cares if Ridgid is ever an expensive line. There are a couple of issues with the way Ridgid is perceived. 1) People will always point out that Ridgid doesn't have OPE but, Ridgid did have some at one point 2) when Ridgid has tried to expand their offerings people don't buy it (like the Megamax) and finally 3) Ridgid is stuck between not marketing themselves to homeowners (this might be changing with their three levels of tools now) and aren't aimed at Pro's either. I think they are just in a middling area where anyone could buy their tools, even make money with them, but you really need a specific reason. For most that comes as a balance between power, performance and cost. I still say, Ridgid provides the best value on the market but Kobalt is pretty close to unseating them.

      You are wrong. Ridgid will never catch up to Milwaukee because it is not supposed to. Ridgid and Milwaukee are made by the exact same manufacturer (TTI). Ridgid is a mid grade tool. Milwaukee is marketed as a top tier tool. They intentionally made it that way. Now, in terms of value, Ridgid is beating Milwaukee handily.

  • @chasejordan22
    @chasejordan22 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Okay so... you shouldn't be sinking such a large fastener on "speed 2". A drill is not like an impact. A hammer drill literally has a gear box that why it's so much larger. "Speed one" is low gear it has all the torque on a drill. If your drilling a large hole you get much further in 1st than you do in second. The drill may move faster in second but like a car with a car it has less power. Don't believe me? Take a second to test it. That regular 4aH would sink the timberlock in 1st no problem.

    I feel cheated by Ridgid! I bought their two largest half inch impact wrenches. And both tools were bundled with four amp hour standard batteries and not the Octane battery. So after watching several videos it appears that the Giant impact wrench (that claims; keyword "CLAIMS" 1,500 nut busting pounds of torque) will lose about 30% to 40% of its power by using the standard battery.

      Long story short I move hot tubs. I use a big airbag (sold by spa dolly) to lift hot tubs on to their sides. The bags are filled by any shop vac. I have a powered vac and the old rigid cordless vac that can use 1 or up to 2 batteries. Pretty powerful when using 2 Octane batteries. And very convenient vs using tho corded vac.
      The problem is that rigid no longer makes octane batteries AND stommed making that cordless shop vac 😂

    You do not have the Max output batteries

      You can literally see it in the video. I'm not sure why people have to do this to themselves, but thanks for commenting and not watching

      @@MrMyrchik the Octane SDS rotary hammer has also been or will be discontinued soon. It is an all around great rotary hammer, well worth owning, but not a strong or as reliable as some others; Makita or Milwaukee.

      @@ToolswithSoAlz vs brushless ridgid impact driver 😳 👌 and I want a rematch of Milwaukee vs matabo the one with the cord in the battery i believe the 14 was accidentally left on instead of drill 😳 the video between dewalt and Milwaukee m18 fuel the Milwaukee buried that auger bit if you listen you hear the drill wind down like it was set to 14 I watched it again and it definitely wasn't in drill mode 👍

      @@TacticalThib you'll get your rematch and the first video in the Impact Shootout will be, by popular demand, the Max Output vs the Dewalt Dcf887. As a matter of fact that video has already been shot and I just need to finish editing it.
