No problem at all!! I usually travel to countries and cities to document specific events or bands. However, when booking this trip I actually booked it to visit the city and then a week later discovered that I would be there during this event, providing a rare opportunitiy to film a Hungarian military band in Budapest!! I am now travelling into Vienna in the hope to catch some of their National Day events on Saturday. Another stroke of luck when researching after I’d booked the joint trip!!

Hello there, I was in Budapest on the 23rd, but couldn't make it, so thanks so much for sharing this! I thought I'd give it a try as you asked for the various marches. March on: A general compilation of music, but sorry, I couldn’t get the first bit. It’s familiar, but that’s all. Presidential etc., arrival: A series of cavalry recruitment bugle call sounds, music was called ‘Verbunkós.’ Followed by the ’Rákóczi March’ (not the Hungarian March.) It was written in 1820 by Nikolaus Scholl of the 32nd Joint Austro-Hungarian Infantry Regiment, later worked up by Ferencz Erkel, Liszt, Berlioz and many others. Anthem: Correct, known as „Hymn”, it was written by Ferencz Kölcsey in 1823, music was composed by Ferenc Erkel and published in 1844. March off: This starts with the Hunyadi March, then goes into the Cavalry March and is another mix and match of martial music, with an emphasis on cavalry, as Hungary had only mainly cavalry until the 18th Century. March Past, Dismounted: This features the Hungarian Parade March. (Magyar Diszmenet Induló.) The next march is not surprisingly again the Cavalry March while the Hussars ride past. Then again, the band plays some of the Parade March. The rehearsal just has variations on the above. I'm so pleased that we have the Hussars back again! Great stuff! Great sounding band! Interesting to have the bass drum on the rear rank unlike the UK where it is usually in the middle rank. Might be easier for troops marching behind to hear?
It’s very common practice for many Eastern European bands to have their percussion at the back. Austria, Slovenia, Slovakia, Ukraine, Bulgarian all use this format to name just a few. American’s also follow this format fairly frequently although their form ups regularly adapt it seems. You present a good point for perhaps it being more useful for the troops following behind. Either way, they are indeed a great sounding band!

I actually think the band and guards uniform is very smart and practical for winter months. The cavalry dress is also very traditional and very classy in my opinion.

The cap looks goofy, the cut is terrible, It is not looking good when its not tailored like in the interwar, ww2. I would rather like to see the green steel helmet we had in that era instead of the goofy cap we have now. The hussar uniforms are cool but they are from the 1830s so nothing really new.
