WILCO - SPIDERS (KIDSMOKE)

- Spiders are singing in the salty breeze
Spiders are filling out tax returns
Spinning out webs of deductions and melodies
On a private beach in Michigan
Why can't they wish their kisses good
Why do they miss when their kisses should
Fly like winging birds fighting for the keys
On a private beach in Michigan
This recent rash of kidsmoke
All these telescopic poems
It's good to be alone
Why can't they say what they want
Why can't they just say what they mean
Come clean, listen and talk
Hello private callers, IDs blocked
The sun will rise, we'll climb into cars
The future has a valley and a shortcut around
Who will wear the crown of drowning award
Hold a private light on a Michigan shore
You fool me with a kiss of kidsmoke
From a microscopic home
It's good to be alone
I'll be in my bed
You can be the stone
That raises from the dead
And carries us all home
There's no blood on my hands
I just do as I am told - เพลง
"Get the fuck off
my expo, Chef, now!
Get the fuck off!
Thank you!
We're firing 76 beefs,
34 chickens, okay?
12 French fries,
12 mash fuckin' now!"
The Bear episode 7. Corner. Chef.
"You are an excellent chef. You are also a piece of shit. This isn't on me. Good luck" What an episode 🔥
Marcus, why’re you fucking with me?!
I got stabbed!
love Glen's posture when he plays this song, it's like he's out for a power-walk
3:15 - the whole song builds up to, and away from, the wordless chorus. Brilliant.
Instablaster.
For the love of GOD, how is there not a "Kicking Television" version of this song on youtube yet? It's been years and it the absolute BEST by far version!!!!!
How will they ever better this? Unique power at that magic 3m 15s assault. It releases a huge dose of adrenaline and you ride it til the end. Very very rarely do you hear the likes of that kind of power….
Jeff is reenacting exactly what it’s like to play (or try to play) guitar tripping balls and writing a song about it.
Just when you think Jeff'll zig, he zags. Wilco rules!!!!
The best Wilco song? So many versions.. I love the acoustic one even more.
It was hearing the studio version of this the first time that made me a Wilco fan proper; specifically the first time they break into the chorus. So tasty. 'I am FEELING this' thoughts began coursing!
Obviously any live version of this is epic, but don't sleep on that studio rendition. A Ghost Is Born forever.
Ghost is one of the best albums ever recorded
Holy shit. One of my favorite wilco songs and couldn't imagine it could be this amazing live
Hallogallo by NEU! This Wilco song is pure krautrock with motorik beat.
A true gem of a song.
man's a friggin' legend! the shows where he supports Jeff on Heavy Metal Drummer and Laminated Cat are superb
SUPERB performance.
AWESOME!
FABULOUS!!! GREAT !!! THUMBS UP!!!
@TheAlistairDick I completely agree. I saw them live in Nashville in October of 2011 and it was the greatest concert I've ever been to. I am seeing them again in Memphis this May. I can't wait.
I love watching the songs from A Ghost is Born with Jeff doing the solos. I love Nels and all, but it's like the solos are just as personal as the lyrics for Jeff. Love watching him go at it.
Jeff is a genius!
Now this is how I looooove my drums played. This entire song is good for yer earholes.
love the finger pad thingy that Nels uses (not sure of its exact name but love its effects. wish wilco would bring the weird/abstract/electronic more like in this song)
also: song is ferocious, esp. live.
Haha... yes I agree completely!! I can't find it anywhere!!
"And yet, you are all spiders; spinning your webs and secretly vengeful."
-Thus Spoke Zarathustra
They know exactly what they're doing.
Ahhh...the motorically-challenged guitar stylings of Jeff Tweedy. He does play great squiggle.
@blackhawkfima
it`s actually inspired much more by tweedy`s affinity for krautrock; especially the work of "NEU" and "Can". if you listen to anything these two bands did, you will make afew interesting discoveries. the beat used in "spiders" for example is known in krautrock as "motorik".
generally speaking, "spiders" is much too steady (or "motorik" if you will) to be derived from "interstellar overdrive"...the affinities end in the general "drugginess" of the sound I`d say.
The translations of the lyrics - is that Catalan? - is pretty funny. The translate "kidsmoke" to just "smoke". I'm picturing the conversation in the editing room for this broadcast: "El que es 'kidsmoke'?...No se...Solo tiene que ir con el 'fum'."
THE BEAR
Mother Sky....
Roll on Thursday 16th September. Never mind the pope coming to Glasgow that day. The mighty Wilco are in town at the barras.
listen to this song while riding on a train. Had kind of a revelation, observing the wheels of a neighboring one, in slower motion, a few weeks ago. Noticed how the metal of the wheels shined, on the inside. No sticky black matter; no life. Kind of made me think of the devil is chrome song. I'm guessing that's not what Tweedy meant, but it made sense. Man-made, shiny, powered by death, void of life. But shiny, beautiful, appealing- in the way that highly refined human-made objects can be.
Don't they explode into the chorus again while the crowd is clapping? They did it at the Calgary show I went to in February, but this was awhile ago so I wonder if they did it then. Either way, I love all versions of this song: the droning, dry album version, the chaotic, jam-like live version, and the calm, melodic acoustic version played by Jeff.
Seriously, this song is an absolute fucking journey...
Good lord, won't somebody please upload the live album version of this from Kicking Television!!!!! Please!!!!!
8:38 Cline messes with his Kaos pad and the whole thing becomes weirdly abstract - I've never heard this song played the same way
Sounds like the German band Can. Especially the early 70's material
+Jay John y'know, Neu! was the predominant goal with this song~!
actually, its Neu! Hallogallo
Overall Krautrock sounding.
Krautrock =/= Motorik
a band from the midwest in the greatest city on earth and this is what happens.
Best live band in the world. No equal
this is just fucking great..,end of
great upload thanks! how does nels cline get those freaked out sounds on the solo?
Greatest guitar lead in human history. Fight me
jeff still does do that solo..
@pinaymootang I bet it was totally worth it, too!
@5891jonathan those people most likely cannot think or even want to. *this* music strikes there brains with a thought process. no bueno for them but bueno for us. =)
@bosstones17 sorry, i was talking about barcelona, and there is no discussion on that point.
where can i watch the whole concert?
Kidsmoke is not a valid scrabble word. Wilco is. A valid scrabble word.
Best fucking song
The guitar in this version of the song screams early Pink Floyd, I like it.
@MrHippobippo Well I've never been there so you may be right
well if everyone loved this it wouldn't be as cool lol.....that's the way it is....
Where is this performance taken from?
Almost kraut
This song is ten minutes of incomprehensible lyrics, a lot of gratuitous atonal guitar wanking by Mr. Tweedy, and it doesn't even really have a tune. So why do I love it so much, and want to listen to it again and again? Fuck, I love music. It's such a mystery.
Sounding very early Floyd here
It Sounds like its inspired by Pink Floyd's Intersteller Overdrive. Anyone see a resemblance? Kinda cool
Was this taken from a live DVD?
'Prefereixo estar sol' sounds better than 'It's good to be alone'
SHIT SONNNNNN!!!!
Oh, come on. It was ever thus. The crap gets noticed by more people, but gets forgotten sooner. The good stuff gets noticed by fewer people, but they carry it around for the rest of their lives.
He should invite Neil Young to play this song with him.
Not in the same ball park
You're right - it's like a more relaxed, less uptight version of krautrock. Never occurred to me before, but then I'm not a great Can fan. This strikes me as more concise and less druggy. Certainly doesn't remind me of Pink Floyd, even remotely.
cool as fuck
@5891jonathan No it isn't. Here's why. Of those 2,473,117 people who watched the American Idol video, almost all will forget about it within a couple of weeks. People who watch videos by bands like Wilco tend to be more involved in the music than American Idol viewers are. It's not about numbers but about quality of experience.
but how about Phish?
(To be fair, it's not really 'atonal' guitar wanking - as Schoenberg said, 'atonal' doesn't really mean anything. 'Chromatic' guitar wanking, then.)
