The series: This documentary series offers a precise look at the different theaters of war around the globe. It also provides the viewer with an insight into Hitler's dictatorship and the Holocaust. HD footage from different international archives and interviews with renowned German historians make this 12-part documentary an outstanding one.
Episode 1: In the early hours of September 1st, 1939, the German battleship SMS Schleswig-Holstein opened fire on the Westerplatte peninsula in Gdansk. Almost simultaneously, the German Air Force launched an attack on the small town of Wielun, southwest of todz. The German invasion of Poland marked the beginning of the Second World War. From the outset, this conflict was waged with extreme brutality, resulting in the deaths of thousands of civilians. Although the Wehrmacht succeeded in defeating its neighboring country within weeks, the campaign was far from straightforward: the Polish forces mounted fierce resistance. This documentary delves into the different aspects of the invasion and the ensuing consequences.

Документальный? Где нашли 3000 танков (6 танковых и 4 легких дивизий; всего 2200 танков).

This is a most fascinating documentary. It includes lots of smaller details about the war that other documentaries don't. For example, I hadn't known that the Luftwaffe started bombing before the Schleswig-Holstein fired on the Westerplatte. I can't wait for the next episode!

Thanks so much for providing English voiceovers for the interviews with experts who speak another language instead of doing the translation in very small type for us to read. I watch these videos on my phone. The small type is too hard for me to read. I wish that similar English voiceovers would be provided for the German language videos. Fortunately, those videos are short and the following commentary gives a fairly good idea of what the video was about.
This is a very informative documentary that has included more details about the attack on Poland and other aspects of the early war.
One of the things I find quite puzzling is why Britain and France signed treaties with Poland and declared war on Germany if they didn’t intend to do anything to provide Poland with any practical assistance.

It is a far too frequent part of the history of humankind. Animals compete, but not to the extent or for the silly reasons that humans do. I cannot help but feel we are a Cancer upon this planet. It seems self destruction is our foremost concern. Sad and frightening indeed.

Henderson was the diplomat in Berlin (as the VO said quite clearly); Chamberlain - a different person - was the PM (in London) at the time. Neville was evidently a popular enough name at the time.
