The ride is definitely plush! We have a Turbo Dynamix RZR to compare it too but it'll be hard to beat the XX over whoops. The cage saved our buddies life too, 17 flips down a hill, walked away and drove it out of the woods...
I'm trying to understand why this isn't the most popular SxS out there. After having a Polaris RXR 1000XP and now PRO XP4, I wish I knew about this machine sooner. I beat the hell out of my machines in trail riding, and am always wanting a more robust and higher performing suspension to handle high speed trail riding at Hatfield McCoy. The Polaris machines have been decent, because that's all I've known. But damn, double shear, proper design, NA throttle response, Fox 2.5 at such a decent price? Damn, this should be the #1 SxS out there for people who drive harder than Golf Cart speeds. But sadly most people out there on the trails could probably be fine in a golf cart.
Unfortunately the 125 HP pretty much ties when dragging with an XP1K 110 HP. Not to mention is about $2,000 more than the comparable vehicles from Polaris and Can Am, it's a little over a year late to the market. They were pretty busy recalling every single wildcat sold last year...
SCHEND0 no that’s Polaris. The recalls textron did were pro active unlike Polaris. They replaced firewalls in 2 platforms and a winch solenoid. That’s it.
SCHEND0 there were a few thermal events but mostly some melted plastic. Small amount ever caught fire and they did work with the CPSC before it got to the point of Polaris.
foxracing16 as a percent of vehicles sold they had way more affected than Polaris. But the point was they couldn't launch the XX a year ago when they wanted to and showed it on new years eve. Now it's overpriced compared to Polaris and Can Am. You can get 168 HP and same suspension from Polaris for $19,999 (almost $2K less) and better suspension and same HP from can am also for $19,999.
SCHEND0 it’s not the same suspension but whatever you wanna say. The maverick and Polaris both have huge track width change which sucks through whoops. X3 has horrible bump steer, week shock mounting and front frame areas. The reason they didn’t release the car was because textron didn’t want to release it without their own approval stamped on it due to it being an AC design.
The front diff having gearing that makes the front wheels turn a bit faster is info I have heard nowhere else before. Interesting. But kind of funny that this hasn't been hyped up before at all. And I've read a ton about this machine.
Best walkaround I've seen yet, very informative. Really curious to see the Baja experience with it, so subscribed. Now if only Textron would build a boosted model with Dyna..err, iAct, maybe people would stop complaining :) They (well, Fox does) have the technology, all it needs is the will to use it though it's probably less of a technical and more of a legal/contractual issue.
I can see the potential with this car... The issue is, as with the first Wildcat, the concept is great, but it always falls short compared to the competition. It's 400-500 pounds heavier, and still underpowered. You can't run a competitors motor, and then weigh 400lbs more, and try to compete...
Ike W. Paige I would tend to agree with that statement. I think it is a great machine, and the best Wildcat to date. But for the average person, it's probably not really quite there when it comes to competing with Polaris or Canam. I do think shock therapy said it good, it's great if your going to run it hard and you want to worry less about wearing out parts sooner.
After seeing this bike at sxsblog race event. Their is a lot of work to do to. I get the bed is purpose built. But look at it in person it looks like they didn’t know which direction they wanted to go utility or sport. Their is a lot of positives but your going to need to do more then say it works on Baja to make up for the design issues. I have seen 400hp can am and crazy rzr turbos. Now to be abrasive here this machine just isn’t moving the needle. I rode in WV all weekend and if you where to put that up against the turbo rzr’s in this group that let me tag along you wouldn’t sell a single unit. . I am upgrading in the next month and I raced this machine, even though it was 15 hp above mine it didn’t show it. I did like the doors and a few other things about it don’t get me wrong, and in a few years I’m sure it will be right their with the rest. What gets me is, this is a sxs horse power war right now. Why come into the market without a turbo I would have felt a lot better about this bike if it was competitive with the other models. I myself have watched it get handled buy just about everything out their. If I am going to drop another $20k I want it to hang with the other competitors. So as great as it might be in Baja. When it comes to everyday riders like me. If you can’t compete then I can’t consider buying you bike. Look foreword to seeing where they take this thing. I can see in a year or to me having to eat my words but right now. I’m going with a can am or a rzr without hesitation. This is just feed back from someone who is looking as we speak for a new bike
Erik Jeffery dude this isn’t supposed to be competing with turbos, take your head out your ass. Not everyone wants a turbo in their marching it’s just another thing that can break, not everyone is hammering down at the dunes. This is a perfect matching for your desert trails.
I know this is a 6 yo post. But looking back. There was 2 companies then offering a turbo. 6 years later. Still only 2 companies offering a stock machine with a turbo. This aged like a jug of milk.
We still have both UTV in our fleet. The KRX is better built and designed. Drives better in the rough and slow from a handling standpoint. But it needs power bad! The Wildcat works good but not quite as nice as the KRX. It took more parts to fix breakage over a 6,000 mile period than the KRX. But it has more power that makes it more fun. Tough call. Really is. I think I go KRX and find some power I can add on my own.
Love the design and the thought that went into building this, a lot of the design is miles beyond what is available from Polaris and others .... just wish it had more power but I'm sure its on the way... Polaris just keeps updating their old chassis and that's getting really out dated compared to the new XX and X3 .... I see a XX in the future for sure
SXSBlog.com just because it bottoms on a jump doesn’t mean it’s bad suspension. They didn’t valve it and spring it specifically for jumping. Unless you trail has 500 jumps on it what’s the big deal. Most desert cars with valving wouldn’t jump well either. It’s about small chatter and whoops. Yes it’s soft in the rear but it was designed that way.
I realize this is an old video but a dealer here has a couple left over 2018's, my question would be the alternator and water. From what I can see it looks to be run by a belt and belts and water do not mix. Does anyone know if this is an issue, where I ride there is always water, mud and snow. Will this belt slip if it gets wet.
Lonnie Wrights we have not driven ours in snow and deep mud. But we have crossed lots of rivers and silty, muddy sections in Baja. Never been an issue in those areas. Hope that helps.
7 years behind with double shear components in the front end, parts that are interchangeable from side to side, removable front chassis mount, a motor that's hung from the frame, Team transaxle, Team differential, Team Boss clutch system, easy access maintenance, pre wired for accessories, Fox QS3 suspension, largest cab in the business, Yamaha 998 triple engine, fenders that work, best roll cage in the business, and a bed that can actually carry something. Yea Terry, guess U are right, they have to be at least 7 years behind the competition!
Best review and explanation of this machine that I've seen. Awesome job Shock Therapy.
The ride is definitely plush! We have a Turbo Dynamix RZR to compare it too but it'll be hard to beat the XX over whoops. The cage saved our buddies life too, 17 flips down a hill, walked away and drove it out of the woods...
Very professional unboxing, as always! U guys give us consumers details that make choosing a SXS much easier. Keep up the great work.

Nice review! A lot of this stuff is quality information that I've yet to hear out of anyone doing a review on the XX /thumbsup
Best walk around review yet, including the media day demo people and I've watched them all.
The most overlooked sxs out there.
I was not aware the front dif spins the front tires at a different rate. That's good stuff!

foxracing16 go read the article, they quote the cause being "thermal events". Not proactive, you can equally find this on the CPSC website
SCHEND0 there were a few thermal events but mostly some melted plastic. Small amount ever caught fire and they did work with the CPSC before it got to the point of Polaris.

jesselebby old ford pickups had this feature...like early 80s or so.

Great walk around, highlighted a lot of good points, excited to see what you guys come up with for suspension.

Here were are 4+ years later. Which machine do you think is the best all-around machine in 2022, the Wildcat XX or the Kawasaki KRX?
We still have both UTV in our fleet. The KRX is better built and designed. Drives better in the rough and slow from a handling standpoint. But it needs power bad!
The Wildcat works good but not quite as nice as the KRX. It took more parts to fix breakage over a 6,000 mile period than the KRX. But it has more power that makes it more fun.

@@ShockTherapyllc Thanks for the prompt reply. As always, your opinion is greatly appreciated.
Awesome video Alec Balwing
OH the front diff is geared to spin faster than the rear? THANKS POLARIS>
Great break down! You have me interested let's see what happens

When are you guys going to publish the Baja update for the XX mentioned at the end of this video?
We are finishing filming now. Should be published by 6-15-18
looking forward to it ! thank you!
So basically this is by far the best SXS ever made?
I was surprised that wheel base pros and cons weren't discussed. XX looks pretty short.
5" longer than the RZR, 7" shorter than the X3. Will be great to hear their feedback after 1000 miles in Baja
Robby Gordon is the reason that I'm buying a 2 seater and a four seater
Some great info nobody else has covered
You guys got your work cut out on the rear suspension. Trust us lol.
yep gonna need some changes to run baja
Just shock tuning is all it possibly should need, Class 1 race car geometry that has been around and worked for decades.
I thought that you guys were un biased in your blog. this car is incredible form the showroom! And you know it.
If violently bottoming out from a 4' jump to flat on the stiffest settings is incredible, then you're right, it's incredible...lol

Yes it’s soft in the rear but it was designed that way.
Excellent. Can't wait for more!
what about the Wildcat 4x LTD?
So the tires that comes on this car..
What a machine !!!!!! Love It!

Thanks, West Virginia has lots of water so it'll get wet for sure, it just looks very exposed.

Great job sir!
Great review.
SXSBLOG did real world testing. They were being nice in their review. I won’t...this pile broke major components and was out of commission.
Says the guy with the yxz on his profile
I like arctic cats
And then they closed all the dealerships in the South. How stupid
Guys... little help... we need a kit that will make it smoke every sxs out there.. PLEASE
Car? I don't see a car...
It's not a car!
It not a car lol
i never thought will be as boring as this
I would call this a buggy not a car.
Box it back up and get something else.
I would never buy one of these ripping around the forest the rangers are not going to like you or your vehicle. Get an ATV and ride to explore.
They look like they are about 7 years behind. Just not a good unit not at all.
