- Another winner from the Derwent stable is the Lightfast pencil range. I am a muted colour fan and these wonderful pencils play directly to that love so they will always be part of my kit.
But which are the outstanding ones? In this series where I choose my favourite five colours (plus the odd hon. mention) from each type of media, my next list is the five colours of Lightfast pencils that I cannot leave home without.
We have a quick swatching session and then on to the sketch where I show you in real time how I use Derwent Lightfast. Enjoy!

Thank you! I am so pleased that you are enjoying the content D xx
I have just discovered you on youtube and I’m loving you videos, especially your Five Favourite’s. You have inspired me to buy a selection of about 20 coloured pencils from a mixture of Derwent Drawing, Derwent Lightfast and Luminance. I use mixed media, paint countryside, cottages, seaviews etc, and love your colour choices. would you suggest I get your favourite five from each make or would they overlap too much. Please would you suggest a select for me of 15-20 colours. Many thanks Claire.
Hi Claire and welcome! I am so pleased that you are enjoying the content. Hmmm...suggesting colours is quite difficult because what I sketch shows the colours of where I live and the colours which speak to me. I will have a crack at it for you though and see where we end up. To start with, I tend to go for warm colours over cool so a warm grey, green ochre and forest (these will be all a mix of CD Luminance, Derwent LF and Derwent Drawing). I love mars black and chinese white. Any autumn earth tones in warm versions of colours. And a really good dark indigo. If I venture into cooler tones. LF light aqua is a favourite. I am actually preparing an autumn palette with my favourite brands and colours over on my Patreon and that will go into much more detail that i am able to here. But that should get you started. Those are the colours that I cannot be without. Deb xx
Where do you get those blender brushes?
That one was sent to me by DecoArt in America. They are great brushes too- dome blenders by name. If you cannot find them or if they are not around anymore (sadly this does sometimes happen), deerfoot blenders are great too. I am planning a couple of fave 5s on brushes and I will make sure that i include them. D xx
@@debbievongrabler-crozier2646 I'll look for a Deerfoot brush!
