Fun fact: The idea of Tails being a two-tailed fox is not just something random and origin of Sonic franchise. It was inspired by Japaneese folk legend of Kitsune - foxes with mutiple tails. ;)

Your acting like no one knew that
Tails was previously voiced by young boys. That changed in the latter half of the 2000s. Three women have given Tails his voice:
Amy Palant (2003-2010)
Kate Higgins (2010-2014)
Colleen O’Shaughnessey (2014-present)

The 8-bit version of sonic 2 is not canon, the canon is from the moment when sonic beat the fox bullies to save Miles Prower from being bullied
The 8 bit version of Sonic 2 is canon because in the japanese menual of the game Sonic and Tails already know each other and they're already best friends in that game
In other words: The 16 bit version of Sonic 2 takes place before the events of the 8 bit version of Sonic 2
