The beginning of a legendary system that along with its variants dominated the handheld gaming markets for 13 years. Now, from it’s release in 2017, the Nintendo Switch carries the torch.
I loved this business talk. The only reason why they are not doing it because sales suck. I think having something like this can make people buy their stock
Nintendo4life123 but look at them now 70 million 3ds and 18 million switches in only 1 year, Big N is back and in these dark times of the gamer (where games like Pubg and fortnite reign Kings) thank God they are back
I think they did this since, back then, E3 was a convention about games to marketers and investors. Plus It was mostly private so not many "gamers" went there. However, since now that it is public and more "gamers" go there than marketers and investors they don't really do this any more and get straight into the games
They should have pushed online, I don't know if it would have made a difference but imagine 100 dollars for the gamecube at the time and free online play, wave race blue storm would would have been incredible online...
Internet speeds really weren't cut out for online gaming for the kind of graphics that the GameCube had. They pushed online gaming more heavily on the DS because the games and system weren't so resource intensive
The problem with GameBoy Video is that why would you play videos on something you’re supposed to play game with? I mean that idea would be top notch nowadays, because everyone wants everything on one device for simplicity (hence smartphones)
I beg your pardon. You are way off. Nintendo sold more handheld consoles then Sony did. You can't compare PS2 and GBA/SP, they are 2 different platforms, handheld and console. Nintendo sold more 64s then PS2s.
According to wikipedia, what sold PS2 was GTA: San Andreas with 17.33 Million copies. And for the Gamecube it was SSBM with 7.09 Million copies. PS2 Consoles sold 155 Million. Gamecube Consoles sold 21.74 Million. Hmm, their best game didn't even hit the 20 million and 155 million consoles were sold?! Clearly the games are the best on Nintendo side u.u
Comody DS was so short of taking the throne of the PS2, PS2 aprox 155 million consoles sold, DS aprox 154 console sold. Let's face it we are never going to get to those numbers ever again in the modern age of gaming, not with things like free to plays like fortnite and league of legends and things like crappy cellphone games filling the "casual market" (believe it or not casuals moved a lot is console sales) EDIT: that's why we need to stand united, wheter you are PS4, switch, xbone fan or all of them
You know, that comment would've been relevant if Sony made a profit out of their PS2s...like Nintendo did with, uh, every single one of their products.
As I'm still buying DS games I see people buy DS systems in stores. PlayStation is not the hot stuff anymore they have alienated their fanbase with Killzone, another shooter here and there, some action titles with fancy graphics. Nintendo makes that RPG's are flocking to their system and all that quirky concept games SONY had back in the day with PS1/PS2. I can hardly touch a new home console anymore. Handhelds have suck me in and it had just started. 3DS is becoming the PS2 of this next gen.
Wow, Nintendo was pretty bold this E3.
I can't believe this is 10 years old already! Time flies so damn fast!
Patrick Lange 13 years
@@thedlcj 16 years
17 years now
18 😭
Almost twenty years.

DS: Destroy Sony
GBA was like: Can't catch me PS2
Ps2: Oh yes I can
What GBA is evolving
DS:B*tch please
GBA Video really would have taken off if only they made more Shrek for it
So excited for the ds release
That 3D graphics blew my mind...
DS is only a little over a million units behind now!

True, but knew that the Nintendo DS won the record sales of the PS2?
DS is actually the one that comes closest to PS2 now...
I miss the old regime of Perrin Kaplan, George Harrison and Beth Llewelyn.
Gameboy Video, how much that failed lol
Aaa i hope they keep making badass games
Dude... What's that rockin' song that plays when they're showing off all of those games, like Paper Mario 2?
They should have pushed online, I don't know if it would have made a difference but imagine 100 dollars for the gamecube at the time and free online play, wave race blue storm would would have been incredible online...

Iwota, the CEO of Nintendo at the time, did not want to do it because it was a “trend”.
so remember the 50 mil consoles in that gen
Man, Nintendo might have been right back then, but more PS2s have been sold than GBAs and SPs combined now.
THE 3D QUALITY IS WHAT?? THE 3D QUALITY IS WHAT?!?!?!!?!?!?
And that was just the prototype.
True. I got one of the launch designs. It is super blocky, but it's pretty tough. It's still working today, so I'd say I got my money worth.
The problem with GameBoy Video is that why would you play videos on something you’re supposed to play game with?

Because they know they're leagues above the others? It's a much more subtle cocky than it used to be.
Starting from 12:00 They didn’t give any arguments on why the DS was good
It felt weird for me at first and it made sense why it did
My favorite Zelda game is Minish Cap and my favorite Mario game is Mario VS Donkey Kong. Huh. Go 2004!!!
battalion wars original design is so sexy
if only we knew what DS would of become
Where the hell have you been the past few months?
I miss the gba days
also 73.9 million copies isnt so bad for the psp
Sure but remember the launch design? It wasn't an good improvement from the prototype at all.
And the DS alone sold more than the PS2.
Not by a huge margin but still a very respectful number

George stop looking down know you're role jab ronni and shut the hell up! And get get Reggie back

i should buy a ds
Holy shit. Would be so fun if Sony did this throw those selling facts towards microsoft nowadays:D
Well the DS has exceeded the PS2 in sales.

'Murica
Eh, no.
Goodness you'ra classic one, aye?
