I agree with so much of what you are saying, but his “Everybody…” is not a joyous singalong, but an act of pure dominance. King George is written, I think, as an abusive husband/father of the American colonies. He demonstrates his gentle love by ruling with a fist of iron. In other words, he claims it’s all for them, but, really, everything is about him. Brilliant! Thanks!
He's such a talented guy. He is brilliant in the NETLFIX series Mind Hunter where he plays a nerdy FBI agent who identifies and tracks down serial killers. One of the most intelligent compelling and chilling crime dramas ever, well worth a watch!
Yes! He most definitely is! @lovePanic! David Fincher did say it was too expensive for the audience, and that he was burned out. I have caught a few additional interviews where he said that in a few years he might revisit it, because he originally had about a 5 season arc planned. I think as Jonathan Groff gets more famous (Matrix 4 soon), it will increase the Mindhunter fan base. At least, I’m sure hoping!
Jonathan has talked about how they had to work around the weight of the crown as it was heavy and not attached so he had to be very careful as he moved . Beyonce even asked him for tips on the walk.
I'm kind of embarrassed about how many times I have watched Jonathan Groff's nine minutes on stage. Anyway, great video Georgina. Very enjoyable and your voice is awesome. You're so lovely.
No disrespect to Lin-Manuel and the rest of the terrific cast, but Jonathan Groff practically stole the show, while only performing two numbers in it. Incredible performance. Thanks for the great review.
What’s interesting is the “everybody” part at the end. The way the vocal coach said he sang it is how it’s done on the studio version and not how it’s done on the stage like we’re seeing it here.
Closely followed by him dancing during The Reynold Pamphlet, as Daveed Diggs and company point and grin at him. When he walks past Hamilton, if you have the volume up, you can hear Jonathan Groff say “Reynold Pamphlet” loudly and in his character’s accent. You can’t miss it! 😁
Thanks guys! Glad it's not just me! I saw Hamilton for the first time a week ago, believe it or not, and I too am obsessed with this song and this performance.
Georgina - I just have to tell you how much I adore you and your family. I've been to almost 150 concerts so obviously I am a big music fan already, but your joy and positivity, being a fan of the artists, and love for the craft makes me smile and listen to the songs in a different way. I love that you explain the hows and whys I'm a fan of singing and enjoy singing, though I'm not great. I can hold a tune, but that's where my talent ends, so it's fun to learn what people do to change the way they sing. Finally you have such a beautiful voice. I love when you sing a line here and there. You are pitch perfect and I absolutely love your vibrato. I don't know if you ever released an album, but I could listen to your voice all day long. That's all. Keep posting and I'll keep watching! 😁
Loved it! Could tell you were totally in your element here Georgina! I’ve Jonathan for long while, aweeeesome singer and actor!! Looking forward to next Monday! :D x
I've gotten into a lot of vocal coach reaction videos, you're so great, very to the point and not going off on long irrelevant tangents. And it's also great watching your candid reactions.
He also couldn’t move much because that crown weighed at least 10lbs when they first started the show. Anyway, love Jonathan! He’s absolutely amazing in everything he does.
Remember that Jon's performance was formed in a collaboration with Alex Lacamoire, Tommy Kail and Lin-Manuel Miranda. I have to believe Tommy came up with the absolutely deadpan facial performance and let him go when he was letting his madness peek through. Jonathan was in the development, so he had a great influence on how his character would look, feel and sound, in the theatre world, you want to cast the very best people for the role, because if it's a hit, high school juniors will be trying to recreate your performance for generations.
Also your voice kinda caught me by surprise a little bit. I mean, I realize you're a vocal coach but, simply put, I am SHOOKETH. excellent video keep it up.
Was looking for a video of King George I'll be back for one of my voice students, and came across your video... Absaloutely loved your critique!! Actually endorsed what I do as a voice coach, and I just love your energy!!! Thank you, Kathy in North Somerset X
With musical theater singing - singing with intention is so important, that every word mean and tell something. Yes "kill your friends and family.." is my favorite BUT I want to give a moment to the way he sings Push with a push and Despite with the emotion of despite in his voice
hehe when he says "everyone" everyone had better rush in and sing along even if he's gone mad and is only saying da da da... it's good to be the king :-)
Because this musical is your favourite, I feel your critique is heavily biased in favour of the performer. Groff’s English accent is terribly forced and false. Furthermore the music goes against musical convention regularly and doesn’t fit with lyrics. The actor doesn’t move because it would be incongruous of his character to do so, so no plaudits there.
I'm sorry, but this comment comes across as completely ridiculous. You need to look at this particular performance within the context of the whole musical. Firstly, I understand your complaints about the accent and if that is something you do not like about this, then fair enough. I personally like it because this musical is about American independence and is written from the American point of view, and so the silliness of the accent comes across to me like it's the American people viewing British-ness as over-the-top and old fashioned. But it is very much a matter of opinion. However, I do think your other points are badly thought out. What do you mean "the music goes against musical convention regularly"? Please expand on that, because as far as I know, there is no musical convention. Music only needs to convey what it is meant to convey, and whilst there are some guidelines a musician will have to understand in order to know how to convey what they would like, none of those so-called "rules" seem broken here to me. I feel like your statement is very much a none-statement for argument's sake, but I am up to change my mind if you explain what you mean. And in regards to the idea that the music does not match the lyrics - well that is kind of the point. Hamilton is not your typical musical, as it uses rap as its main genre of music rather than the more common vocals and orchestra. It's new and it's different and, alongside the casting of black actors, it is supposed to convey the modernity of this new America during the revolution. King George and his songs, however, are supposed to represent the old way of doing things, which is why this song is in the more conventional style. Alongside this, it is well known in history that King George rather famously went mad, and this song is supposed to convey his slow decent into this power-hungry madness. The dissonance between music and lyrics is a tool rather than a flaw. And finally, I'm not sure why you think the fact moving would be incongruous for the character. The character is royalty, not a stick. The reason the lack of movement feels right for the character is due to the well-roundedness of the design. The oversized crown, the mantle the takes up a large amount of his figure, the constant stare - it all amounts to it feeling natural that he would be very still, alike to that of a predator watching prey. It is definitely in need of applause, though not just to the actor.
Jonathan gets an A+ on acting , an A+ on singing. I mean he is the whole package. Such an underrated actor.
Also A+ on looks
He's not underrated at all! He's very well respected in the community and considerated 1 of the best!!!
A+ on spitting
@@terrygoodrich2006 he doest any of the big acting awards for me he is so underrated
instablaster
Now I know why front row tickets for this show cost thousands of dollars: you're paying to be spat on by King George III
And would happily do so, to watch him up close 💙
If its him who’ll spat on me on any part of face, then I would gladly get one. I adore this man 💕
He’s pretty honest about it “I’m a spitter.”
I agree with so much of what you are saying, but his “Everybody…” is not a joyous singalong, but an act of pure dominance. They aren’t doing a third season of Mindhunter. It’s so sad.
Yes! He most definitely is! @lovePanic! David Fincher did say it was too expensive for the audience, and that he was burned out. Apparently his costars on mind hunter said he would come to set every day and sing from frozen and Hamilton among other show tunes.
For real, season 3 stat please!
OH MY GOD I DIDN'T MAKE THE CONNECTION BUT I LOVE HIM
Jonathan has talked about how they had to work around the weight of the crown as it was heavy and not attached so he had to be very careful as he moved . Beyonce even asked him for tips on the walk.
I'm kind of embarrassed about how many times I have watched Jonathan Groff's nine minutes on stage.
Anyway, great video Georgina. Very enjoyable and your voice is awesome. You're so lovely.
If you notice, he doesn't blink once throughout the whole song. He just has this crazy, obsessive, dead-eyed stare. So good.
He does though.
He does blink
I believe he blinks at least 4 times throughout that entire time but I could be wrong
@@ConnorEllisMusic Ok? I think he means that he barely blinked...
@@ave9962 he said “doesn’t blink once”though.
No disrespect to Lin-Manuel and the rest of the terrific cast, but Jonathan Groff practically stole the show, while only performing two numbers in it. Incredible performance. Thanks for the great review.
Three I think. “You’ll Be Back”, “What Comes Next?”, and “I Know Him” right?
What’s interesting is the “everybody” part at the end. The way the vocal coach said he sang it is how it’s done on the studio version and not how it’s done on the stage like we’re seeing it here.
Very different tones to the ‘everybody’ line. So much more menacing and dictatorial on stage. Love it.
Yeah like one is joyful and inviting everyone to sing along
The other is...well...kinda creepy to me
For me it’s the best part of the whole musical!!!

I can’t tell you the amount of times I’ve watched his performance. I never say Hamilton until the other day. I am obsessed with this song
Me too. I'd never even heard his name until just this week.
I watched hamilton about 2 months ago and I will not deny that I am literally obsessed with this song.
(I'm literally listening to it 24/7)
Thanks guys! Glad it's not just me! I saw Hamilton for the first time a week ago, believe it or not, and I too am obsessed with this song and this performance.
If only King George could have known that centuries later everyone (including theater-goers) would be openly mocking him for going mad! lol
i'm sure he was well aware that history had it's eyes on him
Georgina - I just have to tell you how much I adore you and your family. I've been to almost 150 concerts so obviously I am a big music fan already, but your joy and positivity, being a fan of the artists, and love for the craft makes me smile and listen to the songs in a different way.

I love jonathan😍 and hamilton of course
I enjoyed this video. His voice is amazing...
you have a great positive energy
Freaking amazing.
In fourth grade, we are learning about Jamestown and king George THE FIRST. So I'm basically learning about his ancestor!!
Johnathan Groff personifies the adage: Less is more. Brilliant.
‘Everybody’ isn’t an invitation… it’s a royal command, barely worth uttering… it’s awesome!
