- Today’s episode explores the range of local WordPress environments, starting with MAMP and making it to Docker, Vagrant, and Local WP. Brian discusses the built-in WordPress local dev tool, @wordpress/env and the state of documentation. Somewhere along the way, Aurooba explains the difference between mamp-stacks and Docker.

I switched to Linux in 2017 after like 20 years of Mac, and had to use Xampp, VVV, and some github docker environments (10up local docker which was shouted out in Tonya Mork's knowthecode site).
Using those burned me out for some reason...then Local was ported and I started to get back into WP.
Also I've never used WPEngine so it's cool to hear about quirks of the sync.
You just touched on Adobe, and that's another thing I lost switching to Linux. And Figma being in the browser is what enabled me to leave Apple! I was an early Sketch adopter and then they changed their business model, and then appeared Figma which was like a 1:1 Sketch in the browser, at the time.
I am working on a little starter block theme template for Penpot, low key.
Hey Aurooba and Brian! 👋
I'm one of those annoying people who built his own local dev server stack.
I didn't know that! But I went looking on your GitHub profile and found it! github.com/jonathanbossenger/wp-local-env. I'll have to try it out one of these days. :) - Aurooba
Now that you mention it, I remember seeing that. Maybe we should do a full episode some time all about _custom_ local stacks like yours, Chris Wiegman's, and others. - Brian
