    We’ve been sailing the Pacific Ocean with our eyes wide shut, without a radar, for four months. Hit by unexpected squalls at night, not knowing which way they’re headed. Today that all ends as we install a new radar. What should have been simple turns into a rubik’s cube that must be solved while up the mast. By the end we need a break and head off to explore Tahiti’s lush interior valleys, dramatic peaks and alluring culture.

    If you're new here, Harbors Unknown is the story of two dreamers, Kristin & Fabio Potenti, & our dog Yoda. We're a small family living aboard our catamaran, SV Wanderlust, sailing to Harbors Unknown. Exploring the world, connecting with people and places through the local cuisine, and showing how great food can be cooked on a boat with limited space and resources. Seeking to balance the desire to explore and travel to beautiful, remote locations while leaving no footprint, minimizing the Hawthorne effect of the observers who change the environment she or he observes.
    We hope to inspire people and showcase the possibility of living an alternative lifestyle that provides freedom and fulfillment, all while keeping it real. Sharing the trials and tribulations of living off-grid, acknowledging the discomfort of detoxing from the modern world, finding pleasure in the subtleties of nature and joy in simplicity. Attempting to understand what makes the world tick and tock but also trying to gain a deeper comprehension of ourselves and identify what will satisfy that hunger for further exploration, for purpose. We have set off on our voyage sailing around the world! Subscribe now to join our sailing adventure.

    LOL!!! OMG, I just about lost it after Fabio had dropped all the washers, and then about three "I realized I couldn't do this thing"'s, and a "and the screw was just spinning and I couldn't tighten it", and I could feel him about to scream and then immediately Kristin says, "IF YOU'RE ENJOYING THIS video..."

    Duct tape wins again! Glad you finally have radar, but your combined rough experienced has convinced me to not even look at that brand for our boat electronics for the build. That seemed to be a very enjoyable tour of Tahiti.

    Wow fantastic problem solving in exotic places ,well done on the radar installation and trouble shooting the solution to bolts and spaces.......very interesting that the old radar could not be repaired ...how long did it last ? Btw thanks for another grwat episode ....three days from Christmas ,may you three have a blessed festive season,kind regards Louis

      Thank you 🤩🤩! It is rather sad that the 4G couldn’t be repaired, in my heart of hearts I know that it probably was just a belt but B&G offered no support and offered a discount on the new one. It was less than 2 and 1/2 years old. Have a wonderful Christmas and holiday season!

    It's nice to see a fellow sailor struggle with the same stuff but it made me wonder. Why do Raymarine, B&G etc not make some hoisting points on these domes? They seem to think that we all take our masts down for installation. Simple things like making those screws none rotating could make life so much easier. In the end a job well done, credit to you. Thumbs up!

    • @HarborsUnknown
      @HarborsUnknown  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You are so right!! Considering the short lifespan of their equipment these appliances should be easy to swap 😂😂🤣How about a little pad eye on top of the dome and a quick release rail to connect with locking screws? I don’t think that those engineers have ever been up a mast and are completely detached from end user experience. Thank you for your comment, it’s good to know that someone out there has shared in the pain🤣🤣

    After watching your videos I am so happy with my Raymarine Electronics Package. B&G has a reputation for being the advanced electronics navigation system specifically for sailors. But with the trouble you have experienced and the less than stellar customer support with very poor replacement delivery times I think reliable product with excellent customer support from other manufacturers wins out over unsupported innovation. Sorry for all the misery B&G has inflicted on your sailing experience. ❤️

    • @HarborsUnknown
      @HarborsUnknown  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for watching our videos!! It has been a struggle for sure. Switching cost would be prohibitive, so we deal. We have found great support from the FB B&G group which is symptomatic of a company who has outsourced customer support to the online community. 😊😊

    WOW ! Another fantastic episode HU! You learned a lot this week and not just with the Radar. It's must be so nice to be able to stop and co-exist with differing cultures and take on board (figuratively speaking) their ideas, cultural memes and presence as you travel! How cold was the water, I noticed you didn't go for a swim anywhere...? Fabio you did well with the gear you had. Personally I would have reached for my spare bolts that had slim flat heads that could be held with a flat spanner. I'd always travel with some 2", 3" and 4"- ⅜ and 5mm and 10mm nuts and bolts, just for times like this. I know, I know, You can't carry everything. it weights the boat down! LOL.
    Till next week... Fair 💨's and following 🌊's!

    • @HarborsUnknown
      @HarborsUnknown  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you as always for your great comments! It was wonderful to learn all the little cultural details from a local person.
      You are right, it would have been super useful to have bolts that could have been held with a spanner! I often wonder about the architect who come up with very designs. I will have to augment my ship stores!! 😊 happy holidays!

      Yes a couple of containers of bolts is always a good idea - and don't throw anything away. Keep all your old bolts, washers, nuts, etc. You never know...
      MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE ON WONDERLUST!!! I hope 2024 bring you guys wonderful travels and life experience. Maybe even join us here in Sydney Australia. I can show you a wonderful place to park Wanderlust for a couple o f weeks!@@HarborsUnknown

    Lucky Fabio is a multi-skilled "machine!" (my kids use that term when someone is extra talented at everything). Imagine your costs if you had to get everything done by someone else?! Any clues as to what caused the first dish to fail?

    • @HarborsUnknown
      @HarborsUnknown  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, we are super fortunate! If we had to wait on people to do jobs for us it would be crazy expensive and we’d never leave the dock. 😂 From reading online the most common problem is the belt inside fails. Thanks for watching!!

    I realize TH-cam time isn’t linear, but why hasn’t Seawind addressed or at least advocated for you with B&G? Personally based on yours and others experience, B&G’s quality and support isn’t for ocean going vessels. I’ll never purchase from them.

    • @HarborsUnknown
      @HarborsUnknown  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Seawind did help us to get the T3 autopilot ram under warranty even though the warranty period had expired and facilitated the discount for the dome. Thanks for watching our video!
