Coal Train Along Ohio River Next To Our Restaurant & Madison Railroad Local + Foreign Power In Ohio

- CSX Coal Train Zipping Along The Ohio River In Maysville, Kentucky. Madison Railroad Local Switcher In Dunlap, Indiana & 2 Trains Passing Our Restaurant In Glendale, Ohio. Includes Norfolks Southern On The CSX Toledo Sub. 4 Trains In Kentucky, Indiana And Ohio.
We were going to eat at Caproni's in Maysville, Kentucky right next to the CSX River Line. A coal train running eastbound was calling out the signals on 160.230 as we were headed to Maysville. I was on the Ohio side of the river and had to hurry over the bridge into Kentucky. I got in front of it and filmed it passing the Amtrak station. This train was right next to the Ohio River and heading up stream. My brother in law was going to film it also but he didn't push the right button. Lol. You can hear the train blow the horn for him while he was standing next to the Amtrak station. Caproni's is right next to the railroad tracks and uses the same parking lot as Amtrak. Mrs Tooth, Lillia & me ate there with my brother in law and Mrs Tooths sister. Our table had a perfect view of the tracks but no other trains came by. We ate here one other time and saw a train pass by our table because the restaurant is right next to the tracks and has big windows to watch the trains. You can also see the Ohio River from the table. This line gets about 4-6 trains every 24 hours.
The next train is Madison Railroad in Dupont, Indiana. I hadn't posted this video so I added it here for some variety. The train was headed northbound after picking up cars at the storage tracks inside the old military base. That clip was filmed in 4K.
Part 2 starts in Glendale, Ohio. My family and I met there to have lunch and watch some trains. This was a tribute dinner for my mom. Two trains came by. The first train was a Norfolk Southern mixed freight running northbound. Even though the tracks here are CSX, Norfolk Southern runs a lot of northbound trains due to directional running. Their line is nearby and is used primarily for southbound trains.
The 4th train was a CSX freight train lead by a Sponge Bob Square Cab locomotive. This train was running southbound toward Queensgate Yard in Cincinnati. It is a local switching freight. Even though this line is primarily northbound trains there are a lot of exceptions. Exceptions include locals and trains coming off the Indy Sub that ties into this line on the south end of Hamilton, Ohio.

The last time I went to Caproni's,(a couple of months ago) I caught a loaded coal train going west.I recorded it from inside the restaurant.Glad you had the opportunity to catch a train. Thumbs up.

Back in the days of steam, a single C&O 2-6-6-6 could handle a 160 car coal train. But then, the coal hoppers were only 50 to 70 tons, and not 100, or 120 tons.
Like your videos, l rode through Maysville in 1991, on the NRHS Special with 765 & 1225.

Growing up in Oklahoma seeing the trains were really exciting i don't live very close to the railroad tracks like i used to but still close enough to see and hear them occasionally, but i enjoy watching the trains here in Ohio and Kentucky where you are and i enjoyed seeing the coal trains near the
Ohio River and the tracks outside of the restaurant windows were very nice
to see and the crossings in Indiana with the Madison train was very good

Rivers and rails go together. My Gramp would take us to view derailment along the Deerfield River Western Mass. We could watch trains go by from their front porch.

A nice freshly painted unit on the coal train started things off right so that was your appetizer before the family dinner. The NS train got things going relatively quickly to get up to track speed. About 3/4 of the way back are the articulated AMG X Hopper cars which usually carry recycled cans to the Mills. Love the little Madison Railroad train as it skirts those nice homes. There recently was a video of them moving a unit coal train off the line which winds up becoming a slow push-pull to get them onto the CSX. While the local at the end was the soybean special. Hopefully the mom's tribute found you seated inside the restaurant as she was the priority for her special day.

No DPU on that coal train - most likely because it was empty. Strange as if is returning from a customer, it should still have all the power used to get it there. A nice light display!

WOW.....welcome to my hometown!! Checking out the trains while working city mail routes in Maysville was my favorite thing to do. I watched many trains roll through town at the Caproni's restaurant. Thanks for posting.

I always appreciate the Maysville videos despite only a few trains per day. My grandparents used to live above Caproni's back in the day, and the original Caproni's who started the restaurant were godparents to my sister. Grandpa had an office in the old C&O station where he was a communications specialist complete with a high rail pickup. Lots of great memories in the very location where my railfanning interest developed!

Nice catches. I was in Williamsburg Va. last week on vacation and captured a CSX coal train that had 218 cars loaded Two lead engines and two mid DPUs. Thats the Peninsula Line. Amtrak runs there also. Happy New Year.

I too thought the train was "booking". I would frequently catch coal trains coming up the Scioto River valley in downtown Columbus, Ohio. I never saw a dpu in the mix and the trains were going much slower.

In my old stopping grounds. Have eaten at "Caps" many times. There is not as much rail traffic as there use to be since all the trains are now 2+ miles long. If you are ever in the area, visit downtown Maysville and go down river 20 or so miles to Augusta KY. Jaw Tooth has a video from there as well.

Taken Amtrak to DC, NYC and back from that location, always too early or too late to eat at Caproni's. Thanks for posting, will have to try it next time maybe stay the night in Maysville.
