I wish that I was a multi-billionaire - I'd give millions to the locals to buy cement, breeze blocks and steel, and build up their infrastructure: houses and roads. They would take pride in building it up themselves under the guidance of their own structural engineers, their own plumbers and electricians. The people just seem so nice and friendly. I'm glad that you make these videos, although it is very sad to watch. I really wish my dreams would come true to win that huge lottery. I would not hesitate to start getting things moving for the better.
They dont think like you, my wife is from Philippines and spent $ on new bathroom addition and (10 yrs later ) i was just there and the hand sink is gone and toilet is usable..they dont care about modern living, they live day to day and lay around as long as they get by with basic needs.
Just finished watching the video my heart goes out to these poor people but there's so much they can do if they all got together and did a huge clean up together they would accomplish alot I noticed afew people we're picking up trash but together and united they can make there community a cleaner & a safer environment to live in but overall a great video keep up the great work you are doing thanks....

It was my inspiration to create Drew's Travels, documenting the lives of these less fortunate yet heart-warming communities, thriving in this diverse and beautiful country that is the Philippines.
Wow these people are made of something else. So humble and seemingly happy together amongst trash. I didn't even know places like this existed. Pretty sad, I hope the best for these hard working folk. They deserve it.

Not all the people from tondo are poor, some rich people live in this place. Your father in law must have been well to do, he can’t go to medical school without any means or sponsors,schooling in PH is not cheap.
@@Muskratlove he definitely was not well to do. Not sure what the situation was but I know he lived well here because of how he grew up. But knowing what it is like he was always very generous and donated a lot of money to charity and always helped family in need. He was a great man.
I'm new to any of these sights, but to see these folks somehow thriving to an extent in the midst of squalor and such friendly well adjusted kids in their surroundings while here in America sometimes thinking how difficult things are for me, is just a totally humbling experience. God cares about the poor and lonely and the distraught and abused. All I can feel is God truly bless them in this world and the kingdom to come, everyone of these good souls.

Poverty was bad back then. But from what I see on these videos it looks worse in some areas. But with that said The Filipino people were very friendly to me while I was there.
Yes, Manila is just too overcrowded, 3 of the most crowded cities in the world are in Metro Manila. Tondo area in particular, because it's proximity to the Port Waterfront area has always been a troublesome area ever since Spanish colonial times.

I went to the Philippines to see my husband who was in the Navy aboard the USS Enterprise aircraft carrier.We stayed in military housing (Subic Bay).It was a culture shock when I got off the plane at the Manilla airport. Los Angeles to Hawaii to Quam to Manilla 16 hours fly time omg. Over populated, horrific poverty, street children everywhere grabbing my clothes, back pack etc. begging for food/drink. There were 8-10 people/kids living in one room huts. No sanitation, no water, etc. A lot of what I saw cant be put on TH-cam. To sum up my trip: Never again. I wept like a baby when the plane landed at LAX. Grateful to be back in the states,back home.
one thing about the phillipines i see, is that every person might look at you a certain way, but the younger folks are not doing drugs or stealing, i lived in mexicos bad neighborhoods and most young guys and some older guys as doing drugs in the corners or outside their home, and if your not from the area they would try to steal from you or just start saying bad things to you, or want to fight you, theres respect in the philipines i see.
Philippines has a huge drug problem though. As for stealing, I tried sending something to Ph. so I called the consulate for advice, they said not to because it would be stolen in the mail. Have to send it through a private service maybe

Western travel vloggers never seem to show this side of things when they do some ghetto tourism videos and are like "It's totally great in the slums. Don't listen to people telling you it's terrible. Look how happy these kids are to see tourists!"

I regularly watch his videos, similar to Larry PH Walking, that feature walking vlogs without any form of narration. His videos also show parts of the Philippines that are not normally frequented by foreign visitors and travelers. On his channel, he has highlighted, a few times, one of the most notoriously deplorable areas in the Philippines called “Happyland 105,” in Tondo, a district in Manila, a heavily populated area ubiquitously littered with piles of trash and garbage where people live in dump-like and unsafe shanties. He also toured the slums in Taguig, a city that also has a very affluent and urbanized financial and lifestyle district (Bonifacio Global City or BGC) with modern high-rises, retail stores, condominiums, restaurants and bars, and shopping malls, to focus on the city’s two antithetical residential areas. It is heartbreaking to see how these extremely economically disadvantaged people live. In one of these fascinating videos I noticed a woman with dustpan and broom doing what she could to keep her small area neat and tidy. Seeing that, and the many, many smiling faces of children everywhere you went somehow gladdened my heart. Amid the filth and squalor the humanity of these people shone through brightly. I wish I could do something to help, but I am just an old man in a small room somewhere, watching, and sometimes weeping...

This is where my father in law came from. Went to medical school in the Philippines and then came to the US in the 60’s.

Di ko maubos maisip kung bakit normal na lang sa kanila ang paligid na puno ng basura.Sa kanila din po talaga manggagaling ang ikakaayos at ikakaunlad ng kanilang buhay. Nakikita ko din kung paano linisin ng gobyerno ang mga kalsada jan pero parang hopeless talaga.Di bale sana kahit mahirap basta malinis ang kapaligiran .
Western travel vloggers never seem to show this side of things when they do some ghetto tourism videos and are like "It's totally great in the slums. Don't listen to people telling you it's terrible. Look how happy these kids are to see tourists!"
@@captainadventures There is another TH-camr, who I believe is a Western vlogger (as the channel’s More Info indicates the United States) whose channel is Krypto Trekker. I regularly watch his videos, similar to Larry PH Walking, that feature walking vlogs without any form of narration. His videos also show parts of the Philippines that are not normally frequented by foreign visitors and travelers. On his channel, he has highlighted, a few times, one of the most notoriously deplorable areas in the Philippines called “Happyland 105,” in Tondo, a district in Manila, a heavily populated area ubiquitously littered with piles of trash and garbage where people live in dump-like and unsafe shanties. He also toured the slums in Taguig, a city that also has a very affluent and urbanized financial and lifestyle district (Bonifacio Global City or BGC) with modern high-rises, retail stores, condominiums, restaurants and bars, and shopping malls, to focus on the city’s two antithetical residential areas.
It is heartbreaking to see how these extremely economically disadvantaged people live. It is a shame that politicians can soundly sleep at night knowing that there are millions of Filipinos live in severely unadulterated poverty.

Thank you for sharing these videos with us - your TH-cam audience. I wonder if it would be possible to see inside some of these dwellings? In one of these fascinating videos I noticed a woman with dustpan and broom doing what she could to keep her small area neat and tidy. Seeing that, and the many, many smiling faces of children everywhere you went somehow gladdened my heart. Amid the filth and squalor the humanity of these people shone through brightly. I wish I could do something to help, but I am just an old man in a small room somewhere, watching, and sometimes weeping...
