- Margaret McCaffery, Iowa men’s basketball coach Fran McCaffery’s wife and the mother of Hawkeye basketball players Connor and Patrick McCaffery, is the guest on a new episode of the T’d Up with Connor and Patrick podcast.
Margaret discusses the feedback she gives her sons, her basketball playing and coaching career, what it was like moving to different parts of the country on Fran’s coaching journey, how she addresses the social media criticism of her sons and other Iowa players and why she doesn’t want Connor to be a coach.
Then Marit McCaffery, Margaret’s daughter and Connor and Patrick’s sister, joins the podcast to draft the family’s favorite rom-coms.

This was so awesome to hear from your mom! You raised some amazing kids! I know Connor personally and he is such a nice, respectable, fun person! Kudos on your parenting. I grew up with the Fenellys…and his parents were friends with my parents. What a small world!! P.S. Connor always speaks highly of his mom!
This needs to be advertised more because these are good podcasts. I stumbled upon it by the Luka episode. Everyone is excellent and it humanizes Connor and Pat to a level you enjoy watching them. That changes the perspective of watching them on the court.

Enjoyed it! Overall, I think Coaches have a different mindset than others regarding games, players, spectators and so on. As a Coach, we compartmentalize and quickly focus on the area that needs our attention. Naysayers don't recognize that negativity goes nowhere! Great input Margaret!
Love the discussion about crappy fans that criticize these great kids and their dad. They are great kids and their dad is a great coach.
As a fund-raiser, you could fill Carver-Hawkeye arena with ticket-paying Hawkeyes to watch Fran in a game of charades. I am thinking $100 a ticket. Minimum. Very cool interview. Congrats to your mom on her recent award.

It sounds like "baby Jack" is going to be a great addition to the Hawkeyes when he's finished at West. Maybe he'll be like Patrick and be a gym rat after school at Carver-Hawkeye. Nothing wrong with some extra learning as long as his grades are good. Great job McCaffery's!!! Rough game against TCU last night, but there's always one of those games, and hopefully that's the only one for this season.
