    My wife and I are on our fourth rough collie. I guess you can say we're on the older side. LOL! A good brushing once or maybe twice a week, depending on the time of year is plenty good enough. My daughters" cat is a bigger hair problem than the collie. If you're thinking of getting a rough collie, don't let fear of shedding be the determining factor IMO.

      Thank you for your words of wisdom and experience. I am planning to get another Collie soon and find your words a great comfort. In my experience my Persian cat was much more of a problem with regards to matted fur and tumbleweeds of hair in my house.

      Geez, my collie makes less of a mess, hair-wise than my friend’s lab. As long as you are willing to brush a couple times a week and maybe do a little clipping with some scissors, you will be fine.

    I have two Rough Collies, and also had 2 Labs that just passed away a couple months ago... Truth is: They shed, yes they do... but if you brush them 2/3 times a week and daily during shedding season, its not that bad. Both Labs also shed a lot, sometimes even worse than my Collie. They look beautiful when brushed, if you teach them from puppies they love to be brushed, and they are as sweet and calm dogs as you can find them. totally worth the work, they are lovely dogs.

      @@crocketgsxr6 Sorry for your loss, its really hard to loose two dogs within one month, both my Labs passed away within a month, somehow I knew that once the first one passed away the second one would follow him really soon, and so she did. They were extremely attached to each other. I still have the sweet and gentle Collie to keep me company.

    Have had my Rough Collie for almost 6 years now. Brushing their coat with a comb and brush 2-3 times a week is all hey need. They will still shed some hair but it's not bad at all if you make sure your brushing them good and frequently.

    I see so many people say collies are some of the worst shedding dog...apparently they never had german shepherds or Huskies! They do need a little more grooming then most breeds though, especially if their in the country and roam a little. They easy get mud/debris and can become tangled. I agree with the smooth, however make sure where your getting them because they can have a little more drive. I love 3 collies, bunch of oversized lap dogs.

    To keep dog's stress to a minimum I use an old fork to ease out the loose hair - takes a few hours several times a week for a few weeks a year but thoroughly therapeutic - like popping bubble wrap!

      He was raised to stand on the table from a puppy, most tables come with a stand with a lead to have them held there so they don't move. I used to work in a groomers so everyone's dog was put on one, they will stay there typically.

    I learned the hard way not to bath a collie blowing their coat 😭 before ours got her full coat her first year, we used to bath her at home (the backyard's hose only has cold water so we had to mix hot water with a bucket). We would let her coat air dry, and that's what we did for her first shedding. And despite taking off a lot of her coat with brushing before.... I noticed her hair didn't look smooth and fluffy despite the hours that had passed, and when I went to feel her coat, found tangled hair all over her body! What a nightmare. It took a whole week to untangle everything because we didn't want to make her go through hours of hair pulling and brushing, so we did it little by little every day. We thought the groomer wouldn't be good because she gets anxious about grooming and shaving was not an option, and also not fair.

    • @Lucentanimals
      @Lucentanimals  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can train them, they are barkers if someone is in your yard or at your door. Excellent guard dogs!! Consistency is key for any training. Every dog is different, though. Always ask how the parents are, so you know what to expect.

    Calm dogs? My 11 month bae is crazy af :( won't stop pulling

    • @Lucentanimals
      @Lucentanimals  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You need to set boundaries. Be firm and my dog needed compulsive training for some things. But it depends what your dog needs. Correct him with your leash, and a firm No, don't move til he's stopped pulling, and praise for calmly walking at any time. Also, check out a trainer in your area. The most important thing for training is consistency, everyone needs to be doing the same thing at all times. Don't let your dog get away with anything a couple times and then reinforce it other times. Training is a lifestyle change you cant do it a couple days then stop, you have to form habits In yourself and the dog. Make sure you set up clear boundaries in your home and take those on the walk. Dont let your dog be in control. Hope this helped.

    How many minutes should we breach there teeth

    • @Lucentanimals
      @Lucentanimals  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Collies have bad teeth and should get multiple teeth brushings a week at minimum or regular dentals. Or both!! 60 seconds of brushing. This is just my opinion. Give chewy toys too. But again, collies have bad teeth.
