    That is exactly like I do it for many years . I usaly keep 3 or 4 runners . And I take some peppers of in the start depending on the size of the plant . It's a clear video. Ireland ❤

    How do you prune your young pepper plants before they go out to the greenhouse? do you cut them above the first or second set of leaves to get them to split? thanks!

    Thank you for giving the demo on pruning to maintain the "V." Question: if the part that was cut off long enough, can be be propagated and planted? I just recently cut off long suckers from my tomato plants and having them sitting in a vase with water. curious if the same can be done with bellpeppers...
    second question... is this the same principle for pruning other pepper plants like banana pepper, jalapenos, hatch, etc...?
    thank you!!!

    Just came back to this video as i was really struggling with how to prune my windowsill pepper plants (chillies, but it should work the same right).
    I pruned them a little bit, but they keep becoming unmanageable.
    So basically go for a big V formation without any branching off allowed, got it.
    What about using the cuttings to make lots of transplants and sell those at the market? That seems to be become more popular.

  • @dusshan1

    right now i don't have space to grow them vertically, not yet at prod. level with pro greenhouse/tunnel ours is a lot smaller, say 2.x meters max.. Isnt it good to top them and let them grow bushy in this scenario? I've never pruned peppers, just did the topping of small plants. Also was not aware about indeterminant/determinant varieties apply here as well. i thought it is relevant only for tomatoes. i've seen others prune eggplants, cucumbers and actually grapes the same way as you prune tomatoes by removing suckers, but i didnt consider doing the same to peppers.
    btw as usually thanks for all your videos there is nice portion of added value in each of them + i love to see your family work

    @scmarih 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I love your channel and the information you share. I just started growing peppers but I didn't think about pruning them. I don't understand why the severe pruning and the difference when you just allow them to grow as they want. Do you also prune the bush type.

    • @Growwiththelaplantes
      @Growwiththelaplantes  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maricela Hinojosa pruning the indeterminate peppers, allows them to be trelised which gives you the best production. remember that these were pruned late so it was very drastic. if we didn't prune them they would bush out and not trellis properly. as for our bush type peppers (determinate), they aren't meant to be trellised. we don't prune them, and they produce very well. I am still trying to find a video or information on that tho. ☺

    Thank you! I'm growing just 2 bell pepper plants and this helped some, but my plants don't have a "V", just a straight stalk coming out of the ground (I planted a seed pod from a pepper). So I have another biggish stalk coming out of the ground also. I wonder if "V'd" out under ground first. I pulled some of the others and have transplanted them. You said something about the juxtaposition of flowers to buds. I'm sorry, I'm very uneducated about growing and pruning stuff. The peppers come from the flowers? Hi Barney, we keep our greenhouses at 60 degrees through the night and 70 degrees through the day. It's harder to cool than to heat especially when the sun is out. All peppers will turn color. Where are you located?

      Spring Hill Farms well I'm not in your universe. I have to harvest all my red. yellow and orange peppers. When they're huge and green and put them inside to get them to turn. Where its dark otherwise they just sit there because they're so happy they don't want to grow up or change into a colorful adult .

    I'm seriously impressed with all the work I see that you're doing though. Especially if those are tomato plants you're doing off in the side..

    When they are small do you cut the top off to make them divide into two?

    when we should start pruning peppers for the first time? and how often we should do it through its growing period?

      6-8 true leaves and most off the time only once a season but you can do it twice.

    i heard you said that the peppers are in-determinant how can you tell by the variety you buy to grow?

    Great video, could this be done outside if I trellis them or would it only work in a green house?

    Thank you for an excellent video. Does this system of pruning work for other types of sweet peppers?

      Joseph Halliday I'm not exactly sure, but I think it would be possible. I'm going to look into that and do a question and answer video next week with all inquiries in regards to different techniques. ☺

    did you use a particular sweet pepper(seeds). I have always wondered if greenhouse variety is different from open field ??

    • @Growwiththelaplantes

      Yes we used a greenhouse variety. Greenhouse varieties are a larger plant and give you fruit for a longer period of time.

    Another awesome video. Last year was the first time topping peppers as young plants and I did have stronger plant that got to about 3 to 3 and a half feet tall with more fruit.. I live in Maine, so as you can imagine we have a short growing season. also, I don't have a greenhouse. Do you think this would work outside in my Back to Eden garden?

      Thanks Jim, this was a learning experience for Haili and I as well. I don't know why it wouldn't work outside. Maybe just try a plant or two (as long as they are trellised ) and see how they do. I can't wait to watch more of your videos!

    That is very interesting. I would not think that you would take off so many branches. After you harvest the pepper from below will they set more flowers and peppers of is that it? Thanks for sharing :)
