I bought the Otterbox venture from Best Buy on a “deal of the day” for 50% off. Only reason I didn’t buy a Yeti. Now I have 2 Otterbox cooler and 6 tumblers. We take them camping and keep one in the side by side. These are by far the best coolers on the market for ice and durability. Most people I’ve met don’t know Otterbox even makes coolers.
@@CoolersOnSale Yeah it got me curious. Bought on July 23rd 2018. $144.43 for the 45 venture and a separator. Used $30 rewards so really $174. BB deal of the day should be checked daily. Awesome deals
I wish stores would sell frozen one gallon water jugs. They have a built in handle, are reusable, provide drinking water, and are less messy than ice. Thanks for sharing.
A previous video you created has a lifetime 55qt rotocooler. For under $100. We bought it. LOVE IT! held ice without pre-cooling for 8 1/2 days!!! 80-90° temps. I filled with 3 bags of ice. Opening 3-4 times day. Thank you for the time n effort to do these comparisons
Can't quite put my finger on why I find these videos so entertaining. I have the Siberian Alpha and I really like it. In regular camping situations where the cooler is in the shade part of the time, sun part of the time, kids opening and closing it every ten minutes, falls from the tail gate when people forget to raise them before driving off, river rafting, etc. I've found that day 6 is usually about when it's time to drain it and toss new ice in. My old Coleman would last about half that and won't stand up to the punishment that these roto's can withstand.
@@MM_405 its the 45. The inside is a bit smaller than I would like but the trade off is that I can pick it up when it's completely loaded and move it over challenging terrain which is what I seem to be doing about half the time when I use it. The 65 is just to cumbersome and heavy unless you're always going to have a hand, be moving it across flat ground or you're the mountain himself.
Imagine the motivation this guy had to start this channel. Like, he must be so chill. Probly sitting at home with a cooler next to his chase lounge and says, "man I wish there was a way I could make money just dealing with how to keep beer near you while you chill in ALL aspects of chill life" So he literally puts together a channel about the best way for YOU to keep cold beverages next to you while you do chill things like boating and fishing and grilling. Epic.
Great test, I bought the Orca 58 almost 5 years ago and it has been an absolutely great piece of equipment, pricey but you get what you pay for i guess.

Your reviews are outstanding, thanks for taking your time to make the videos. I have not seen any Pelican brand coolers in your tests. Any particular reason? They have to be one of the best performers.
We've tested Pelican many times in the past. You can see those reviews here: www.coolersonsale.com/coolers-like-yeti/ and www.coolersonsale.com/10-days-ice-retention-is-it-really-possible/

I would love to see cheap coolers vs roto coolers. How much longer does the $300 cooler last than the $50 cooler. That's the big question I ask when buying a cooler.
I don’t know about you guys but when I got a 30 rack in my cooler I’m in it 20 times in a day. Ice last about a day and a half in the Yeti. I now use my dads garage sale coolers, ice lasts just as long if you actually use your cooler. Best part is I can leave the cooler at the party because it only cost $3.00!
I bought the Kong 50 based on this video. Did my own test, 40lbs ice, no pre-chilling the cooler, constant 83% (in house), no sun. Got 7 full days with no ice left but water was at 36F.
I guess the lid temperature readings of white vs dark coolers make sense as heat is reflected off the the white (higher temp) and heat absorbed by the dark (lower temp). Would keeping the coolers out of the sun reduce that half day ice retention advantage of the white?
keeping a cooler out of the sun is common sense. unless you are out on a boat with no awning theres is really not many reasons to ever leave a cooler in direct sunlight
Thanks for the post. I think you did a pretty good job of creating a science experiment, but I ultimately think it's unfair to pick winners when you have apples to oranges comparisons. Size (amount of ice) and color (absorption of heat) of cooler make a tremendous difference. All coolers should have been same color and size. Doing effective experiments can be rather complicated, I do appreciate the effort. But even length of time of opening lids has to be the same and sun exposure. Again, not so easy to do. One experiment, I'd like to know is how long will the coolers last if you don't open the lids at all. We are going on a month long truck camper trip, don't have enough space to store everything in the camper freezer, so we wanted to buy an Orca 58 (other data seems to suggest they have the best ice retention) and leave the lid closed for 2 weeks until we can transfer that food to freezer. Have you done any long term lid closed tests?

I actually love your videos BUT in all your tests you pre chill the coolers i really don’t think most people are doing that before we use them. I do feel a better test on ice retention would be right out of the box fill with ice and test from there. It would absolutely show a more real life ice challenge. I’m interested to hear your thoughts on that kind of test.
Hey Mark, the point of the test is to find the very best coolers when comparing evenly across the board (as best we can). We do have one realistic test here: www.coolersonsale.com/vibe-element-cooler-review/#1
I have Kong 50 and tried this and got 7 full days til the last sliver of ice. Conditions: 1) Inside temp controlled house at 80-84F, 2) Packed full to brim with ice, 3) no direct sunlight. The only thing I can think of is I didn't pre-chill the cooler. Anyone have any theories why its quite a bit lower than the video?
Any chance to add the Cater Gator to this test? Ive recently purchased the 100qt and I love their option with wheels. Pretty affordable too and I would love a comparison!
In your write up you said that the Kong won but yet the otter box is 5 quarts less and lasted as long how did it lose? I’m just a little confused but great video and this has helped me tremendously on picking my next cooler.
Hey Kyle, they held ice for roughly the same. Yes, the Otterbox was slightly smaller, but I was also factoring in the price point. The Kong will be much more attainable than the Otterbox to many of our readers/viewers.
To bad you couldn’t get your hands on the Siberian 65 as previous videos where it was the REIGNING CHAMP and went head to head with Techni ice!!! NOT the (2) 45qt Siberians you have in this test. Over all excellent video love Siberian but Kong is definitely getting more of my attention. 👍👍👍
My 53 qt. Custom cooler store cooler only lasts 2 or 3 days. That's with 24 pack of water bottles and 20lb. Bag of ice. I expected a lot better after watching this video. I understand my cooler and test cooler are different sizes. I bought my cooler because of this test video and wish I would of bought a different one.
You guys should do a water cooler test like the ones on jobsite and football fields. You guys do really through test it'd be nice to know what one will last the longest on the job. There doesn't seem to be many reviews of them any how
A month ago I bought an nICE cooler. 45qt. Left it in the back yard. Lid warped. How have these held up against warping. Any suggestions coolers tested here that wont have that problem.
We've tested them many times in the past. Although they perform really well, they are not the best in terms of ice retention. The Techni Ice outlasted them on several occasions.
Awesome job COS ! At the end, I would have liked you to re-arrange the lineup from best to worst, to better understand the data. Also to silence the neigh sayers, perhaps you could include some quick data about previous test that excluded popular brands like Yeti and RTIC due to lower performance.
I would like to see a cooler challenge that actually has food and beverages in it with people getting in and out of it ya know like a real cooler you take camping
A good test! Glad you included Kong coolers. I had already bought my Orcas and Pelicans several years ago before I heard of them. Shame, they seem like a serious product. Plus the diversity would be neat.
Hi! looking for a cooler that can keep my dog's fancy raw dog food, for his sensitive tummy, good, for as long as possible. We would like to be able to go on a 5 day camping adventure. So the raw food needs to stay cold/frozen for at least 2-3 days in order to remain fresh for 5 days. Is there any way you guys could test some kind of raw meat that is frozen, like burger meat or hot dogs, something other people can utilize the information for camping/hiking.
Quick question is there are 2 holes under handle exposing the foam interior and The condensation builds up around the plug and cap on your otterbox venture? Thank
Anybody know how Gatr coolers are? I have a Canyon cooler which I’m pretty satisfied with, but always looking for other cooler companies I’m not too familiar with.
I’ve watched every video by COS and now can’t choose my next purchase of a 45-65 qrt! I tried to get a Techni Ice, after seeing it beat the trusty Orca but they sold out and didn’t bother telling me for weeks after I had already paid so they are off my list. Can you give advice on one $350 or less? Top ones I’m considering are Kong 50, Engel 50, Yeti Tundra 45 or the Haul (on sale). If you can’t say due to worry about being accused of being affiliated with a brand, no worries. I just would love to get advice from The Expert! Thanks!
It's really up to you. We really liked that Kong 50 and we have always liked our Engel 50. In fact the Engel 50 was what we took with us across the US because it fit the best under the tonneau cover in our truck. So it's not all about ice retention. Having said that... the Kong is pretty badass.
Lol! I was ready to pull the trigger on the Engel until seeing your latest video with the Kong. Pretty much everything about that thing is impressive! I really appreciate your input and the videos! They definitely get me through my analytics projects at work.
We've tested the Pelican 50 in the past, but the Orca, Techni Ice etc outperformed it in terms of ice retention. Having said that, they are built like tanks, very durable coolers.
Awesome rewiew, couldn't find the shaking test for the water. And how can i get the awesome coolers in Germany? , specially the Kong would be interesting.

How come I do t see anything on your website about RTIC coolers?
Probably because they are blowing out the market with the lowest prices for the same quality.

I have the Orca 75 and the beer always runs out before the Ice even with my wife not shutting the lid all the way...
Ha ha, I have the same problem!
I have a $20 igloo, and I have the same problem... Beer always runs out before my ice melts.. I guess I need more beer..
What about blue coolers ? Can you test those ????
Can you test the ROAM coolers the same way?
Will check into this. Thank you!
Would like to see a big canyon tested, I like the boxed look of canyon and nothing sticks out on the sides.
That seems to be a popular request, so we will definitely try to pull this together.
Cordova anyone have any Experience with one of these?
I got one! I haven't had it for very long but so far I'm impressed
Us too! Wait till you see the individual Kong Review.... the accessories for that cooler are impressive.
Coolers On Sale The work you and your wife do is awesome and doesn’t go unnoticed. Thanks again for your hard work!👍👍👍👍
Thanks for following along! We appreciate it.
You need to do a Cabela's cooler. They are the best.
It's on our list. Thanks for the suggestion.
@@CoolersOnSale Add the Monoprice cooler to the list?
Anyone that takes more than ten days to drink beers from a cooler deserve warm beers!😉
There doesn't seem to be many reviews of them any how
Good idea, thanks for the suggestion!
Good idea. I hope COS does a water cooler showdown.
Test the landworks rotomolded enhanced cooler. Its 10 days of ice retention and $169 on Amazon please and thank you
Will add it to our list. Thanks for the suggestion.
I would also like to see the landworks cooler in a showdown. Sounds like a great deal if it does what is claimed.
A month ago I bought an nICE cooler. 45qt. Left it in the back yard. Lid warped. How have these held up against warping. Any suggestions coolers tested here that wont have that problem.
Yes, definitely some of the US coolers are more robust, specifically the Orca: amzn.to/2XUzmet We've had it 3-4 years and still going solid.
I got a 63 quart techi ice and I love it.
Awesome to hear. They make solid coolers.
Why no Engal cooler? They are usually one of the best.
We've done that here: www.coolersonsale.com/ultimate-ice-challenge-results/#2
Where’s the Calcutta? Plz check out the 50liter white. I have a chance on a pair at 143 each...
Added to our list. Thank you for the suggestion
Could you do a review of the Kula cooler?
Add the cabelas rotomolded cooler !
Its on our list. Thanks!
Thank you, great video.
Thanks!
Damn... awesome vid... lots of work... thanks
Thanks Homefront!
I have an old fashioned orange circular igloo. I am going to put spray foam in the top. Have you ever receded one of these?
Debra
I had the same issue with trying to buy a Techni Ice on Amazon. Exceedingly poor behavior.
Fantastic review, just want we wanted!👍🏻 I would've liked to have seen the Pelican 50Qt Elite cooler in this test tho.
Hmm, I will reach out to Kong about this. Thanks for asking.
@@CoolersOnSale thanks for your help. Is it any test about the coleman and dometic cool ice boxes? Thats the only one you can get in Germany. And a couple realy cheap crap
Very cool 😎 Thank you!! 👊🏽
Thanks for watching
Orca had a thicker insulation than the otter box but it still lost. Wonder why?
Great question, different style/insulation/design.
Tan color played a role definitely in regards to the Orca. White is best color choice for direct sunlight.
The " cap" style top and better seal for the Otterbox.
Great video !! Thank you !!
Thanks for watching.
Most don't realize how prices skyrocket on coolers at walmart and target and other stores in the summer months.
