Thanks for watching. Unfortunately, I can't justify making any more Cursed City playthroughs. This video has very low views for the amount of work involved and has a higher dislike ratio than other videos I've made this year, so it seems to be time to move on to other coverage.
What a pity. I think for a new player it’s really helpful to see a full well structured play through. Yet I can absolutely understand your point of view once the numbers speak for themselves
@@MrGreg972 I'm hopeful the two playthroughs, plus the video on the campaign structure and my review will be enough to give a good idea of what the game offers. However, once I've got the whole set painted up (which I am doing at the moment) I may do just one more playthrough to show the game in motion when everything is painted. Maybe a boss fight.
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring That sounds like a great idea - painted up Cursed City and a boss mission (maybe not the first boss, but a later one so the heroes are higher levels too).
Thanks for the very absorbing and interesting run through. I bought the original warhammer quest back in the day but didn't like the look of cursed city when it came out. Your vid has totally changed my opinion and I will pick it up when it is re-released. Thanks for the great content, your enthusiasm for the games really comes over in the commentary
That's great. I'm so pleased you enjoyed the video and liked the look of the game. You may already know, but just in case I will mention that while the game is coming back later in the year, it is available right now as a Made to Order product. The order window is open until Sunday 20th March, and you don't have to order from Games Workshop direct. Places like Wayland Games and Magic Madhouse are taking the preorders for less than £100. If you order, you should have your copy in hand by May.
Thanks for the sacrifice in making this video. Absolutely the best cursed city channel on the web. And a good choice in not making anymore playthrough, I would like more content instead of just more playthroughs even though i have enjoyed these thougerly, it would just be more of the same kinda. Love from Denmark.
Thanks so much for the kind words. I know what you mean. I think the three-part paythrough I've done is enough to give people a good idea of how everything works.
Always board never firewood staking... 😜 loving your work, great to see the "problem" scenario in action as well has certainly helped me decide to pre order 🥰
We would have been home in half the time if he hadn't forgotten his bag of stakes. Van Helsing never used to have these problems. You might need to purchase a bigger table next!
Thanks. I'm glad you found the videos useful. Does that mean you are going to go easy on me with the pit traps the next time my barbarian pops into your dungeon for a visit?
Excellent playthrough. I really appreciate your comments and explanations. Your reviews and playthroughs convinced me to pick up a copy. As for the new expansions, the first seemed interesting, though the miniature requirements is steep. The second expansion seemed less interesting, but I could proxy all the miniatures except the vargiest and dire wolves. Not sure if either is worth it, but I'll decide later. I have a lot of miniatures to put together, and paint as it is.
Thanks. I think it is a great game, despite GW doing everything in their power to make it difficult to like. Even just the core game has a lot of gameplay. I hope you have a lot of fun with it.
Good video mate, nice one. I started playing CC last week and kept forgetting rules, inspiration rolls as well, but watching this has made some rules clearer. Good work.
Thank you. I was very frustrated with the number of silly things I forgot, but it comes with the territory making videos like this. There are just too many things to consider when you are narrating, filming, and trying to be at least slightly entertaining. I hope you enjoy Cursed City as much as I do!
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Yeah, it's the first WarHammer game I've played, and I had a good day playing a couple of hunts. Badly. I had to keep re-reading rules, but I'll have a look at your other playthroughs too, as I found your explaing rules cleared a few things up
Unfortunately, I find that creates a lot of additional problems. For example, knowing how your stake dice rolled can shape your decision on whether to use an inspiration point for a reroll on your main attack. It's also impossible to roll the stake dice at the same time as your main attack once you have inspired as: a. Your ardent blade rolls 2D8, so you don't have enough D8 to roll them all together. b. Your judgement rifle rolls a D8 and you need to know which D8 is for your base attack and which is for the follow-up attack as they do different amounts of damage. The annoying thing is I've never had problems remembering to roll the stake dice in the past. It just happened I had a real senior moment while the cameras were rolling. Typical.
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring ahh of course I see the problem... wasnt thinking about that we also use the dice from blackstone fortress, which are the same but look a bit different.
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring lol yeah that happens to all us older gamers... no mater how many times you rehearse it in your head you still forget it on the day.
On a plus side of the video, I can say that your english are very clear which will help non english native people to watch it easily and you are excellent in describing every action you take it and why you take it, which in turn helps the new players get into some tactics too....I hope I was not very critical in my last comment since it was not my intention...but I guess you already agreed with me about those mistakes
Thank you for the additional comments. No I don't agree with you about those mistakes. Creating these videos, which I provide for free, takes a huge amount of time and effort, and it's not something you can flippantly throw out and redo on a whim. I have scrapped a video at the edit stage before when I noticed a massive gameplay error that completely ruined the outcome of the game, and I lost over a day's work doing that and it took months before I could do the reshoot. I would never really scrap a video for minor errors like the ones in this video, despite what I may say jokingly in my voiceovers.
i'm loving this series. I will probably never get the chance to play cursed city, so this is my chance to vicariously experience what the game has to offer. Thank you for this.
Really enjoyed this play through, was a selection of favourable dice rolls, balanced with dice rolls of doom. You should have called the Agility health rolls something else I think looking at how many didn't roll your way. When I played our first game with my lad we didn't get to nightfall so I did wonder how it affected gameplay. Wow, your heroes got decimated once the sun set! Appreciate the work that went into this and how hard it is to remember every rule and roll needed (didnt affect the enjoyment of watching in any way, in fact enjoyed the humour). Thoroughly enjoyed it thanks. Sorry to read on the comments there were dislikes, such a shame as I couldn't wait to watch it through when I saw the notification. Here's hoping for some more content once the expansions launch at the end of the year (so long as GW sales targets are met for the base game prints obviously). Look forward to seeing the smaller gw dungeon crawler release when it's available too! Thanks again 😀
Failing so many vitality rolls really hurt me, as it meant I was really inefficient in a lot of turns. And then night fell and my dice rolling took a turn for the normal. It got a bit scary there for a minute. Dislikes are nothing unusual, and often are a bit meaningless. As long as the people who wanted to see the video enjoyed it, then that's good enough for me. However, I do have to be wary of the low viewing figures, especially on videos that take so much time to create. To be honest, I wasn't that excited about the small-scale Warhammer Quest game to begin with, but I'm starting to think I will probably get it if it comes out in the UK. There's always room for another quick crawler on the shelf.
Very nice video! I use House Rules all the time with dungeon crawlers,HQ,AHQ,WHQ 95,Silver Tower etc. It’s amazing you can sometimes improve a game greatly with a few tweaks(your random location respawn being a good example-or my using goblin/Orc archers in HQ to stop door blocking)Its often not rocket science!Wonder why designers sometimes miss obvious stuff like that? Not enough playtesting I guess. I have to say those blue dice aren’t very engaging-throwing for 1-2 pips all the tine.WHQ 95 demanded an O Level in Maths to work out damage😆And you always got a proper kicking from the denizens-It was brutal and great!.Descent 1st and 2nd had the best combat dice for me though-did you play them?I grew to love 2nd Ed-the symmetrical game design and tension it created was excellent.
I was disappointed when they changed from the Silver Tower/Shadows Over Hammerhal D6 combat to the custom dice, but I do like the use of the custom dice in Cursed City more than in Blackstone Fortress, thanks to the variable damage output based on attack type. I still get very nostalgic for Advanced Heroquest's D12 system. I did play Descent first edition, but never played second, and I have no interest in the new 3D app-based one.
Really enjoyed these videos. I was very interested in this game, but haven't got through Heroquest yet so can't justify another purchase. Can't understand how anyone has disliked this video as they are so well made.

I am well down the Heroquest rabbit hole now so will definitely be picking up Frozen Horror, and hopefully the Ogre Horde if that gets released as I had that for the original. I will still be hovering over the add to basket button a number of times before the time runs out on this!
Shame this isn't more popular :( I wonder if it's your house rules (which seem fine to me) or the poor treatment Cursed City got from GW (sigh, I'm guessing quite a few people got scalped getting it). Maybe try again later in the year when more people have the game?
I doubt it's anything to do with house rules, as I suspect most people wouldn't know I was using any until I mention it. It's possibly the length, but I tried to keep these as snappy as possible and it's just hard to condense it more. If these videos can't get views during a two week preorder window when people are deciding if they want to buy the game, it's very unlikely the videos will get the views later. It's rarely worth trying to push it. I have lots of other content to work on.
