Someone commented that Opal wasn't that good in standard during Scars, but Scars rotated before the legend rules change buffed Opal. It was a lot worse under the old legend rule where you lost both if you played a new one.
There are absolutely players who will not buy packs that have banned cards in them. They don't always even know what the banned card is but if you tell them there is a chance that the rare in their pack won't be legal for play they just won't buy that pack. These tend to be casuals for whom FNM is the highest level event they'll ever play.
In addition to this, this is largely also the biggest customer of sealed packs in this manner. The casual player buying a pack or two would be 100% put off if they have a chance to buy something that isn't usable.
Wait, what? What value are you getting with either of those cards? You don't want anything in the yard and you need bodies on the field more than you need mana since the curve stops at two.
@ you are playing jolted awake and goblin engineer in the deck, so you’re happy to discard a lot of your creatures and cages, you also benefit in ditching emrakuls that get stuck in hand. Mox opal just enables wins a turn earlier sometimes
@Beefman.0 Oh, I haven't seen a version on either of those. The last one I saw was spikes version just after mh3 with emerias call, ocelot, ajani, guide, cage, mistveil, ornithopter, memnite, warden, martyrs soul, force of virtue
I do get a laugh out of imagining the hypothetical person who decided "yeah, I could open Ocelot Pride, or Ugin's labyrinth, or any of the other cards in this super pushed set... But I could open a rare that still sees play in Legacy and Commander but not Modern proper."
Funny. I just got first place at FNM against Tron, Twin and Mard Energy with this deck. You are a superaggro deck, you remove the opponent with Tarfire most of the time, not creatures.
Tarfire kills almost every creature in Boros energy which is the most played creature deck. It also adds two card types for delirium which is its main appeal. Spike also prefaced his card selection in this video by stating he was shaving on certain cards due to Faithless Looting. If you want the extra warm and fuzzy feeling then add some number of Unholy Heat back into the shell. I’d be interested in what you cut to make that work.
Have you ever seen creature based aggro decks where the only real removal is bolt?? That's what you're looking at here buddy... 😂 You don't care to interact with your opponent unless absolutely necessary, and your trying to kill them as fast as possible, so removal is not important until post sb.
In regards to packs. Guide of souls is probably a poor example. The one ring was a high value chase card especially with the many limited/foiled versions . Either way there are people who open packs and don't play. They open packs for the gambling aspect of investment. So when a chase card is banned it's value tanks for the packs because the secondary sales market tanks. So people buy less. Look at the Pokémon market. A ton of non players buy packs and a ton of non playables have "high value". Mtg is similar but has a higher player base.
If pack selling is the real goal of ban / unbans, what current product would start selling more from the 4 modern unbans? Guess that is a very difficult question to answer heh
Match one game one and match two game one gave me Deja vu, same opening hand same mention of Wild West format. I had to check my time in the video to make sure I hadn’t mistakenly rewound 😂
imo the bigger thing about the "pack sales" argument is like. mh3 came out 6 months ago. how much are people still buying packs of it anyways? im sure they are, but is it enough for wotc to actually see revenue? because people are buying the packs from shops. are those shops seeing enough sales to order more boxes? because thats the only time wotc sees any money at all. most of the money from packs wotc gets is when the set comes out, and, if it does well, for a couple months after. I don't think we're in a phase where 1 rare being banned makes enough of a difference to make its way up the supply chain to them
Great content, as always! I have a quick question: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How can I transfer them to Binance?
first game of match 1 is in there twice. love the videos regardless! it's nice to see Spike so excited about the format again
I thought I was freaking out
@chelseacomer1363 yeah I kind of had a moment too lmao
@@ghostware6057 NOT AGAIN!!
If people are worried about modern horizons 3 not selling because guide was the one to get the axe, idk who is opening packs for the $4-6 rares.
Someone commented that Opal wasn't that good in standard during Scars, but Scars rotated before the legend rules change buffed Opal. It was a lot worse under the old legend rule where you lost both if you played a new one.
Delirium* pls editor
Flytrap is such a cool card

Any chance of fitting in 2 copies of unearth and 1 copy of splinter twin into this deck to get some small amount of out of nowhere wins
Sure, as long as you’re okay with the out of nowhere losses when those cards become dead in your hand most of the time.
Any chance you revisit boros collector’s cage? Seems super natural to fit in looting and mox opal

A jund deck with only tarfire has removal its not the way for sure in 2024/5...
Funny. I just got first place at FNM against Tron, Twin and Mard Energy with this deck.

Reading this gave me an aneurysm

Look at all the spije D-riders 😂😂

Could green suns zenith be good in jund goblins?
I can’t fathom how this deck beats any of the broken things in Modern, it doesn’t race or interact well at all - what’re we doin chat
It can kill on 3

All of them. It brings people back to magic.

Jk it had to have been mistakenly cut wrong
if they ban 2 good pulls from a pack, people who like to open for value won't
Only one of the 2 is even worth more than the price of the pack, wouldn't call Guide good value.
We are still dreaming
looting with dreadhorde?
Them banning the one ring I do think will decrease the pack sales of lord of the rings but it’s been out for long enough anyway
do an altanak deck with looting

first match is duplicated?
Man im keeping 2 thoughtseize and all 4 street wraiths in. Taking out 1 district 2 push 1 urge… is probably wrong though
Hollow one + faithless looting or i personally will riot (alone).
Hollow One + Vengevine
Still can't believe it's real
careful, dont cry
Rest in pepperonis strikes again.....
