The idea of making a redemption arc for both aswaththama and karna is genius. The major problem of the movie is the way every scene plays out way longer and lacks a sense of establishment.. The film only peaks when it derives imageries from ithiasa but the characters do not drive any major emotions ( a lot of character die and i didnt care much about any of them).
This is the most apt review of the film, truly the attempt at humour in the first half is really overbearing. Deepika’s character has been really disappointing. But the climax definitely takes the cake and Amitabh Bachchan proved why he is living legend. The director did an outstanding job weaving the characters from Mahabharata and I honestly loved Prabhas’s character, the humour and portrayal of his views, his selfishness made sense. Overall the world looked and felt borrowed but the characters held the truth and authenticity.

Excellent Review 👌 Amitabh sir’s, Kamal sir’s and the Mahabharata Lord Krishna’s portions 👌 - When ever these characters were on screen, it was lit 🔥 Visuals were spectacular. CG was smooth. Worth watching the spectacle on big screen. The comedy track diluted the emotional build up that the movie was trying to build. Just wish the comedy tone was dialed down. It was distracting the flow and slowed first part.
Absolutely nailed it, the first half was way draggy and Bhairava was irritating after a point... So many people come and die and never make an impact. With that said loves the final flourish, AB killed it. We should make more films like these. Even if they lack few things it's still fun to watch.
Actually TH-cam should provide boycotting options for few channels.... Are these guys are greater than general audience.... Even after getting such craze...
So people should get influenced by your comment instead? What a hypocritical comment...even your opinion is your personal opinion...why the heck should we listen to you as well?
Ponniyan selvan had depth to the characters. It takes a bit more intelligence to understand what he’s trying to convey Vs simply being offended at opinions.
Funny thing is both my teen sons were disappointed and for us adults..after so much hype it was feeling just like coming out after watching PS1 TOO I've no doubt about this Directors brilliance after watching Mahanati But with 600crore budget it was a messy affair with only the Mahabsrat scene worthy of applause.
What a movie. I thoroughly enjoyed it. ESP the second half. Yes the first half was kind of boring as we couldn’t get the story . But once the plot was set it was nothing but a rocket ride . Great job cast and crew👌
I agree with you in some ways. Still I felt pity for SUM80 at some point. Everyone has done their stuff pretty well and you can't include much in a 3 hour movie. I think this has set the base for the next big thing in indian cinema. The climax is very well executed so that it will cover all the flaws that happened in the movie. The visuals are jaw dropping when you see it as an Indian movie but still it doesn't come up to its mark in some of the portions especially when they were showing young Aswathama. Hats Off to everyone who has worked in the movie. Nag Ashwin thank you for taking Indian cinema to the next stage.
I cried at the interval scene… these so called critics are really useless and prejudiced… please stop watching these reviews and watch the move solely based on your feelings and judgements from the trailer…
Like the jarring cringe on the name of comedy? Or like the totally irrelevant sub plot of roxy bhairava? 1st half total snoozefest headache(you can't escape by naming it on world building) Agreed to the 2nd half tho..
Pls do check your review for leo.... Which showcased occult and was almost a scene to scene to copy of the history of violence movie and u still supported that movie..... Come on dude respect the work and support original writings....
Everything said in this review is perfectly true. The technical brilliance is stunning and the film is never boring. Keeps you engaged throughout (which itself is a major achievement for an attention deficit audience these days). But the flat characters end up being a major downfall. This "oh but wait for next part" is annoying coz every film of a series should hold on it's own without depending on something that is yet to come in the future.
These days the reviewers if they didn't get an interview before release then they show all the hate on movie rating, normal public is very good even after going through all scams and rejections they just move on
Ponniyan selvan almost everyone slept in the theatre,Kalki everyone enjoyed that is the difference.Sometines we need to ignore reviews and enjoy the good movie
Perfectly summed up! I agree with everything you’ve mentioned in the review. While the movie is a visual treat and a first of its kind in India. There is absolutely no character building except for the role of Ashwatama.
I think, baddy is wrong this time. This is one movie that is going to make the critics wrong and moviegoers feel good. One should see this movie 2-3times to go in to details and also seeing the Bujji&Bhairava series to connect with that world.,
The same rangan mentioned in his previous round table talks that the movie should not be like shorts. If only they had slightly edited the first part… nonetheless, the movie is quite good. My kids were laughing during the first fight scene of Prabhas. The second half picked up pace.
I don’t think fans got impatient with Bhairava, in fact we loved it. As the movie progressed , the graph just shot up. Was a good experience in the theatre :) Amithab was brilliant! Expected a better review from the sensible BR.
Just watch the movie guyz.. These type of movies in indian cinema are rare..Yes, there are flaws in the movie but still watch the movie in theatre and experience Nag ashwin's brilliance on the screen.
I will never understand why people don’t complain about the lag in movies like Dune or even Leo which BR backed. I will also never understand the need to be “emotionally” attached to every character shown in the movie…like why?
These types of Film makers makes movie for all range Audiences from kids to old, not for only intelligent to kill hope of movie makers in the name of reviews, film makers are so sensitive. Respect their efforts.
Dune has a template it has a novel and an old Dune movie but Kalki is totally different it was built from scrap. Even Avatar 2 have a lag. Mad Max Fury Furiosa(part 2 is about that back story prequel) Some scenes look like a satirical movie, but the Rebel Moon movie is not impressive. Star Wars who Don't follow a whole series of movies will confuse all big franchise movies that have some great and average bad movies. Kalki is a foundation movie for the Kalki universe I will expect more for the future (series of movies) both technically and storywise it's a great attempt to mix both mytho and sci-fi we should appreciate that and positive feedback (constructive criticism ) is okay but people showing unwanted negative comments is not good for this kind of movie no one will try to do this kind of movies I have a great list of movies which have slow narration but won an academy(Oscar) awards
I am saying this is a movie every Indian should watch, what a movie CG is so good its like any Hollywood movie. The way the director blended Mahabharat is superb, go and watch. dont miss Amithab Ji r great, Prabha is excellent, and all are done justice to their roles, go and watch NAG ASHWIN, hats off to your vision narration, especially the way u used CG amazing no one can match, regarding the length of the movie I never felt First Half was dragged, the director was introducing all the characters with the storytelling. dont miss go and watch. adding one more thing dont compare this movie to any masala film, it's a different world u have to get into this world and enjoy it.

The whole first half set up the way to 2nd half and this dude is simply saying that " Writing doesn't match up" So people are ready to say anything about a movie happened for 4 years with many people's efforts in 6 min Kudos sir..... I do not understand the power scaling, technology, or how they captured Ashwathama. All of the fights in the first half seem fake, and the rest of the fights are also poorly choreographed. No logic at all. Abrupt cuts for some scenes for convince. Disha patani part is not necessary. Even that 1 min fight of Mahabharata shooting arrows could have been better. Acting is not at their best because of poor writing. Expected better writing from Nagi 😢 Copying scenes or ideas from other movies is not a big deal if the story is demanding that but that’s not the case here.
Amazing movie. I dont understand why some hindi critics decided to give mixed reviews, Kalki has hollywood level visuals and top quality scenes. Why do tamil reviewers don't admit r praise other industries especially tollywood work. They just keep crying at the growth of the industry. I just loved watching the movie on big screen. Flaws r there but it's entertaining. Movies r meant for entertainment and informative. Both r there to get satisfied for a common man. Tollywood never cried, they adore every industry. Gave industry hits for even tamil films in telugu dubbed versions.
The Sambaar Industry in south India (Tamil film industry) often perceived as a black sheep in South India, continually tries to dominate and belittle other South Indian film industries. There is a prevailing sense of superiority regarding their language and films. Ironically, despite this arrogance, they often ingratiate themselves with Bollywood. While other South Indian industries maintain a distance from Bollywood, the Tamil industry appears eager to align with it, resulting in a situation as disappointing as Bollywood itself.

Kudos to Nag Ashwin first for the very bold attempt at making a story like this!! Story is the backbone of the film and is carried so very nicely by all the lead star cast. A very well researched and written story! Merging characters from the past , references to scriptures and predictions in them combined with a stellar world set in the future wow! The movie takes your mind body and soul to a new world. Yes we have seen Shambala, Complex and Khashi in the trailers and teasers but when you see them in large screen and for continued time, the way people are , their beliefs, what they stand for and hope for, who they protect and serve is all shown so beautifully! I did think it had resemblance to other movies but if earth were to lose its resources it would be full of sand dunes with few habitable areas . If you are close to nature and with peace with it I can totally believe a quiet place over the mountains . Moving on to the characters I cannot imagine anyone else performing Ashwathama if as per scriptures , he needs to protect the next avatar and to stand tall against all the future enhancements Amitabh ji just does it so convincingly. His telugu diction is so perfect and so suits the character!!!! He steals the show!!! Prabhas as Bhairava brings in nice comedy refresher . All the Ashwathama and Bhairava fight sequences are a visual treat pre and post intermission. I agree with what Nag Ashwin and Prabhas mentioned in one of the interview, if someone needs to stand against characters like Ashwathama and Bhairava you need a supreme villain , Kamal sir it is!! I am excited for what is next for this role . The context is set well for yashkin. Deepika looks very beautiful and again waiting for a bit more character building for her . First half has issues with some unnecessary sequence and drags out a few scenes which I wish could have been avoided . Some of it helps set the world but I got slightly bored. I did not see the Amazon short versions to be clear. Still I felt it was not necessary. I could have easily taken an extra scene or two at Shambala or complex . There are a few goosebumps moments in the movie . If you like Indian mythology and If you are a believer in God you for sure will like it more. Life finds a way! A little bit of context on kali, Kalki avatar , Kalki Puran did help appreciate some scenes even more. Climax / Last 30 mins is very very good!! Vfx in this movie is the best I have seen in an Indian Movie. So many movies have/had the budget but fell so flat but this one No!!! So very impressed with all the sequences. Hardwork and attention to detail shows in every scene . Kudos to all the team involved . Music is one with the movie for most part except for one unnecessary song in the first half . Only that song felt so out of place and fake . Other than this bgm take a lot of scenes to next level. I get how the director and the crew decided to rather focus on editing and using any time Budget left on post production than on promotions . I really really hope word of mouth gets around and more and more people watch it!! Heartiest congratulations to the team Kalki and fingers crossed for a huge success!
I respectfully disagree with BR’s review of this film. I think this movie definitely needs to be encouraged as much as possible. India haven’t made Star Wars or The Martian or Interstellar, forget about sci-fi classics such as Kubrick’s 2001 or Travosky’s Solaris. So a film like Kalki is a HUGE DEAL for us. Warts and gashes aside we should encourage Kalki for its more redeeming factors.
This is dune, matrix, transformers, fury road, mad max, x men, and Star Wars all in one movie, and still soooooo fabulous, simply because of the powerful emotions embedded in our inexhaustible sagas no matter how many times you tap into it,,, it’s a gift that keeps on giving.
You expecting back story for sumathi could be stupid as she told she just works there and didnt see her mom ..... future our live will be same nobody has life to share and nobody hears if you share ... Dont expect backstory if you just like actor acting
Indian cinema has achieved better vfx with this movie. technically vfx wise this movie 4 out of 5 still have some flaws but overall never seen before in Indian cinema these kind of visuals. Abhi bhi kafi problems hai jaise wirework 2024 me i think they should fix it 1st half bohot down aur waste feel hota hai because of unnecessary comedy elements they use same cliche that you punch one guy and 5 guys fly and even with ashwathama jab vo apne shoulder par sabko uthate hain because vo weight ya balance feel nahi hota to vo bhi ajeeb lagta hai baki movie ka action 3.5 out of 5 because of wire work and cliche. story is decent Overall movie is 4 out of 5 (Climax is 👌) may they will fix these problems in future .
Yes bahubali 1 was cheating in a way... showing only half of the movie and getting full money for the ticket....any movie without closure should be considered a scam....same thing happened with viduthalai 1...it is an incomplete movie released to the public to rob their money
Bahubali made us feel for the characters… so the ending can be anyway. Bt in this frst 60% of the film was build up… so expected a bigger climax… never the less great film
Everything in the first half was lame. From the writing to acting and editing. Even the second half started in that same direction and quickly changed gears to save the movie. The action blocks in the last 1 hour are really well made. These portions were good. Technically great but you dont watch a movie for its technicalities. Nag Aswin needs to focus on his writing. 2.75 rating tharlam.
Visually top notch part, Amitabh is the real hero in this part, Kamal is just 5 mins and Prabhas plays a cameo. May be the next part would kick off this series, but part 1 is more introduction to these characters.
That's known as detailing...guys..first half is all about small details....if Hollywood does it is good.... bollywood great...and south movies it has no pace lag scene.......

It seems only Tamil nadu side spreads negative on this, even so, the movie made huge record.. i am a diehard thalaivar fan, never liked movies other than thalaivar Rajnikanth itself.. for me this movie is the greatest ever made in Indian history
Why are you giving negative? You only want to watch stupid Hollywood bakwas stories movies but not the Indian movie? Just appreciate their efforts rather than pointing out.
Emotional connect was amiss, uninteresting characters, & alukewarm screenplay. There was no tension in the scenes to keep you hooked. Bad editing, atrocious comedy, action bits that lack adrenaline in the first half. I was expecting some indofuturism visual, we got a potpurri design that’s shockingly mid in the age of ai. And, is anyone asking why is this whole thing happening in the first place? Why should the viewer be vested in the story. Dialogues, atleast in the Telugu version were meek. Salaar was a masterpiece, this however is tediously goofy
Salaar's first half was too slow. There were many unnecessary elevations. All those scenes with the villain's shivering one hearing someone's name... were a bit too much I felt.
@@saimeghana2261 haha, yeah it’s over the top & exaggerated as you pointed out. I guess the background music, sound design & editing is what got me immersed into the world of Salaar. However, with Kalki, the Mahabharata bits were stunning & the tone is set for a spectacular series ahead

Yes even I felt the same abt the film. There is not sufficient back story or premise for the film. There are no emotions that ppl cpuld stay connected from start to end. I felt bored at many instances.
Good review I felt the same, while the ending was satisfactory, I came outside of the theatre with more questions than answers. Ending a movie on a cliffhanger isn't wrong but if you want to end it that way, look how masterfully Bahubali did and how much hype the second movie got because of that. Good graphics and good performances from actors but the emotional connect just wasn't there. Also, I kind of felt Prabhas as Kaala Bhairava made more sense than what they tried to portray in the end of the film, would love to hear your thoughts on it.
This cliff hanger much bigger than bahubali man seriously do you don't have interest to see after knowing the final ending much good than bahubali in all aspects
The franchise is not a two part story like bahubali, so they did not have a cliffhanger, a lot of new characters r going to come unlike bahubali, it doesn't only concentrate on prabhas, this is way bigger vision then bahubali
Feel like there was alot of unwanted stuff included in an otherwise nice screenplay. Movie looks better in 2D than 3D. Some elements that are routinely seen in generic telugu movies could've been avoided. Otherwise it's a visual treat and a good one time watch
Interstellar, dune1&2 la yevlo slow aa pogum but adheyla namma appreciate panrom but namma alunga story build slow aa panna mattu no😕, na idha patha 1st half is slow but that thing is needed to take us in to those 3 worlds and cameo there are 6 but yedho chumma irakanum la illa they where blended in the scene overall it's a very good movie will good amount of goosebump scenes and nice mythology frictional story
The makers of the movie and the telugu fans should be grateful to Bachan for being the backbone of the movie and should learn from reviewers ...all class reviewers including BR. No point getting worked up subjectively. Moreover BR rightly points out that its a Towering Technical Achievement.
Telugu fans should be grateful to AB? Shouldn’t AB be thankful for the the kinda role he essayed based on the writing and plot? How much more jealous can you sound dude?!! 😅
Regarding 1st half - There were always Foreshadowing elements in the character of Prabhas for what he might become in the last act. - Bhairava's one and only motive is to go to "Complex" , if the director doesn't show what's up there in the Complex how do you get to know why he is so invested in achieving to reach there and Disha's character is used as a tool for him and to viewers to know why & how the Complex look like , Roxie is employed there for 70 days & B is only for 60 minutes, so don't complain Disha's character not utilised properly - Emotions, the people of Kaasi are emotionless because they are living the same life so long they are not bothered about what happens to other people. Regarding 2nd half - Waiting for Kalki universe's next installment
Truly Magnificent 💥. The movie definitely happens to be a treat to the eyes 🤩. The first half is slow-paced and in overall as well the movie feels a little bit slow., but seeing it as a first installment of a bigger cinematic universe, it becomes acceptable. The characters are established well and the way the story is crafted and tied with the mythologies makes it even more interesting. The VFX and CGI are also extraordinarily good 🎉., truly Hollywood level 🫡. Definitely worth watching in a big screen with proper effects 😌.
You dont find movies like yevade subramanyam in telugu? There are many many content based telugu movies but people always go after star heroes and criticized the whole industry
BR - “See you soon at the movies” is an antiquated closing line. You have been using this since covid. But i think it is not relevant today as people have started flocking to the cinema theaters. Just a thought. 👍🏼

Kalki 2898 AD A very laudable conception and hardwork evident in each frame! Was more like dune and avatar2 where we just sit through expecting something great based on some excellent sequences in between: Amitabh comes mostly after interval- hardly two scenes in the first half Prabhas is like Ravindra Jadeja- based on some old performances, even ordinary shots are praised too much- when he is supposed to bat, he fails and when he is expected to bowl, he hits boundaries and then we all say he is a great fielder( without any real fielding in this match) Visually a big spectacle in a great scale-lot of hard work-but you go in ordering biriyani- and they serve you the best pasta, then they give you the best pickle- when the biriyani comes, you simply nod that’s finally biriyani!!! Kamal comes for hardly 3-4 minutes but makes it count especially in the climax-rest all like game of thrones, too many characters too many guffaws. And they market it like big deal all over the country!!!

Prabhas Nag Ashwin and Amitabh sir nailed it, a proud film for the Indian entertainment industry
Amitabh like his height in this movie is taller than everyone literally. But huge respect for Nag Ashwin and Prabhas garu
Its belived that ashwathama and all the folks in previous yugas were taller than the current normal human size
That Yuga, Ashwathama was close to 10 feet tall figure.
Dwapara yuga was believed to have humans with height around atleast 9-10 feet
Excellent Review 👌
Amitabh sir’s, Kamal sir’s and the Mahabharata Lord Krishna’s portions 👌 - When ever these characters were on screen, it was lit 🔥
Visuals were spectacular.

I've no doubt about this Directors brilliance after watching Mahanati
But with 600crore budget it was a messy affair with only the Mahabsrat scene worthy of applause.
The mahabharat part of kalki was masterpiece.. I was awaiting for it .. Rest was average... Visuals were a treat.. Story lagged in first half...
I exactly felt what you are saying, visuals are breathtaking. Story in first half is stretched.
Movie is almost a masterpiece.
First part was totally used for story building but secodn part was lit and never imagined climax🔥🔥🔥🔥
Not first part and second part its first half and second half😂😂😂

Agreed to the 2nd half tho..
Pls do check your review for leo.... Which showcased occult and was almost a scene to scene to copy of the history of violence movie and u still supported that movie..... Come on dude respect the work and support original writings....
Exactly! BR, don't be corrupted towards Hollywood or Kollywood cinema man.
He said he didn't like Leo. Watch the review
These days the reviewers if they didn't get an interview before release then they show all the hate on movie rating, normal public is very good even after going through all scams and rejections they just move on
Best Indian cinema so far ❤❤❤ prabhas sir ek number
Ponniyan selvan almost everyone slept in the theatre,Kalki everyone enjoyed that is the difference.Sometines we need to ignore reviews and enjoy the good movie
Perfectly summed up! I agree with everything you’ve mentioned in the review. While the movie is a visual treat and a first of its kind in India. There is absolutely no character building except for the role of Ashwatama.
I think, baddy is wrong this time. This is one movie that is going to make the critics wrong and moviegoers feel good. One should see this movie 2-3times to go in to details and also seeing the Bujji&Bhairava series to connect with that world.,
It doesn’t hold attention in the first half, Luke warm screen play that doesn’t keep me engaged. Film making needs scenes that hold attention buddy
Was a good experience in the theatre :)
Amithab was brilliant! Expected a better review from the sensible BR.
Movie is not only for fans... Movie is for common people, who get impatient for an underwhelming story.

All of the fights in the first half seem fake, and the rest of the fights are also poorly choreographed. No logic at all. Abrupt cuts for some scenes for convince.
Disha patani part is not necessary.
Even that 1 min fight of Mahabharata shooting arrows could have been better.

Moving on to the characters
I cannot imagine anyone else performing Ashwathama if as per scriptures , he needs to protect the next avatar and to stand tall against all the future enhancements Amitabh ji just does it so convincingly.
I get how the director and the crew decided to rather focus on editing and using any time
Budget left on post production than on promotions . I really really hope word of mouth gets around and more and more people watch it!!
Heartiest congratulations to the team
Kalki and fingers crossed for a huge success!
If you find any resemblance to Matrix, Dune,Madmax,Terminator, Starwars, Wakanda, Avatar( tree), Mummy ( Shangri-La) etc, its not by accident.

Even Baahubali 1 is a buildup for the second film, and the true drama is packed in the second.
Yes bahubali 1 was cheating in a way... showing only half of the movie and getting full money for the ticket....any movie without closure should be considered a scam....same thing happened with viduthalai 1...it is an incomplete movie released to the public to rob their money

I felt the same, while the ending was satisfactory, I came outside of the theatre with more questions than answers.

Regarding 1st half
- There were always Foreshadowing elements in the character of Prabhas for what he might become in the last act.
- Bhairava's one and only motive is to go to "Complex" , if the director doesn't show what's up there in the Complex how do you get to know why he is so invested in achieving to reach there and Disha's character is used as a tool for him and to viewers to know why & how the Complex look like , Roxie is employed there for 70 days & B is only for 60 minutes, so don't complain Disha's character not utilised properly
- Emotions, the people of Kaasi are emotionless because they are living the same life so long they are not bothered about what happens to other people.
Regarding 2nd half
- Waiting for Kalki universe's next installment
Truly Magnificent 💥. The movie definitely happens to be a treat to the eyes 🤩. The first half is slow-paced and in overall as well the movie feels a little bit slow., but seeing it as a first installment of a bigger cinematic universe, it becomes acceptable. The characters are established well and the way the story is crafted and tied with the mythologies makes it even more interesting. Kalki 2898 AD
A very laudable conception and hardwork evident in each frame!
Was more like dune and avatar2 where we just sit through expecting something great based on some excellent sequences in between:
Amitabh comes mostly after interval- hardly two scenes in the first half
Prabhas is like Ravindra Jadeja- based on some old performances, even ordinary shots are praised too much- when he is supposed to bat, he fails and when he is expected to bowl, he hits boundaries and then we all say he is a great fielder( without any real fielding in this match)
Visually a big spectacle in a great scale-lot of hard work-but you go in ordering biriyani- and they serve you the best pasta, then they give you the best pickle- when the biriyani comes, you simply nod that’s finally biriyani!!!
Kamal comes for hardly 3-4 minutes but makes it count especially in the climax-rest all like game of thrones, too many characters too many guffaws. And they market it like big deal all over the country!!!
