    I like the end where Moses went down the ramp & you could hear her tap the side of the pond/tank. I swear they do that on purpose lol. We have a "toy box" of random things we float occasionally for our turtles that they play with that we found out by happenstance. Pretty fascinating. When playing around with different filter set ups in our transition, we had multiple tubes/lines with excessive lengths in the water, which ended up staying like that for a few days on a long weekend, which upon our surprise our turtles found them to be a fun place to play. They have become a permanent part of our aquarium/terrarium on one side. Amazing & intelligent animals. Great video my good sir.

    A great build my friend - I am not really into turtles but a lot of the construct can be applied to my fish room. I also use stock tanks they are so versatile.

      Good question! With the relatively low direct light levels there is hardly any algae buildup. I just change the water out biweekly sometimes I stir up the rocks on the bottom to free the crud building up, otherwise the filter does a great job!

    Looks really great! It's also a much better choice than an aquarium tank in earthquake country. The basking platform seems to be connected to the boards running along the side, so wondering how difficult it is for Moses or an active turtle to escape? BTW, I loved your DIY over-the-tank basking area in your other video. too!

    Love love love this video . We are wanting to do stock tank like this in our sun room. Do you think the heater you recommend would be enough in the winter the sunroom ? Were in Ohio so not crazy winters but definitely not Florida haha. Also what are your thoughts on using acrylic to separate the tank in half 🤔 . Do you have any videos explaining the filter set up a bit better. We currently just have a in tank filter and the canister filters scare me hahaha 😅.

    • @LongLiveYourTurtle
      @LongLiveYourTurtle  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Yes you should have a heater if the water gets below low 70s. Not worth the risk otherwise. For filtration I use a Fluval FX6 and flexible tubing from the hardware store that fits the Fluval valves on the filter. I then used PVC joints in the hose to direct the tubing into the tub without kinking the hose or making large arcs (so it doesn't kink). Just make sure you elevate the stock tank for the filter as it works better if it is under the tank (or close to it). Glad you love the video and thank you so much for the comment! :)

    Any suggestions for a way to cover the tank with screen? I need to prevent my cat from going in. He also likes to go under the lights. Any suggestions on a way to put screen directly on the lamp? Can you crimp it?

    • @LongLiveYourTurtle
      @LongLiveYourTurtle  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a toughy. I have not had that issue to overcome but for the lamp I’ve seen protectors like this one: talis-us.com/products/arcadia-heat-lamp-cage-heater-light-safety?variant=32293292900435¤cy=USD&gclid=Cj0KCQiAjc2QBhDgARIsAMc3SqQaICDkT8iqZDF_ympqt3eNDeYvJslyH0ElA7YCckMMEPeayqhdIuIaAofSEALw_wcB for a screen over the top you could try chicken wire or frame a flexible plastic mesh? If we are talking just a fish tank you can use egg crate or covers they sell for tanks. Good luck!

    I have a question! I have a stock tank setup and was wondering what you use to heat the tank. My heaters always fall off the side of the tank w/o the turtle even touching them, and I've gone through a ton of heaters. I don't think it's because they fully fall into the water, but I never had this issue with their previous glass aquariums. What heaters do you use for stock tanks?

    • @LongLiveYourTurtle
      @LongLiveYourTurtle  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah I have the same problem, suction cups don't stick to the structural foam walls of the tub well. I just let it hang, I use a strong titanium heater (amzn.to/3720LkZ) so it is strong and can take some hits. If you are worried about it being free, with the tub empty I would silicone a sheet of acrylic to the side and let the silicone dry for 48 hours. Make sure the acrylic sheet is flat. Then the heater will have something to easily suction cup to. Thanks for the comment!

      I got my Rubbermaid from a working 4season farm, so the drain plug leaked. However, I just bought a new drain plug and added some Teflon tape to all working threads and it hasn’t leaked since. No problems at all, love the tub! Thanks for the comment. Good luck!

  • @jaxel5767
    @jaxel5767 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Amazing set up. Did you have any problems with leaks where the opening is for the stock tank? I just put water in mine and there’s a small leak where the cap is. Very worried right now and I’m unsure what to do. We tightened it and made sure it was secured but it’s still leaking :(

    • @LongLiveYourTurtle
      @LongLiveYourTurtle  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It should not be leaking. I bought my stock tank used and got a new cap for it. Did you try using plumbers tape? It helps to seal the threads, it did the trick for me. Good luck!

    • @jaxel5767
      @jaxel5767 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LongLiveYourTurtle thanks man! My dad recommended I use plumbers tape as well, it definitely did the trick. I was so stressed about it but thankfully it’s not leaking anymore haha. Now I’m just having trouble with the canister filter. Do you think if I cut the tubing it will help? The tubes I have are very long and I don’t need all of it

    How do you keep the gravel from having all sorts of muck get stuck beneath it? or is that not an issue with a proper filter? My boyfriend is finally getting a stocktub after I had the talk with him that his current setup is not okay so I'm searching for ideas to have it look nice but still stay as clean as possible

    • @LongLiveYourTurtle
      @LongLiveYourTurtle  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your turtle should do a good job of moving rocks around, but buildup will occur eventually. Best way to keep it from getting bad is occasionally pushing the rocks around, preferably during a water change to loosen the sludge. The more you do it the better!

    • @jlexoticbirds4134
      @jlexoticbirds4134 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LongLiveYourTurtle Yeah his turtle had pretty decent sized rocks, Not gravel so that may have played part in how messy it got lol. I’ll keep that in mind, Thank you!

    Great upgrade from the tanks. Tubs are a lot better. Just a heads up goldfish are full of thamine which is terrible for your turtles. If they eat too much it can actually kill them. I recommend mesquite fish they are way better feeders plus they are live bearing so you can breed them yourself pretty quick. Then kiss goldfish goodbye

    please cut open a piece of tube and put it around the cables in the water to bite-proof them. if the turtle tries to bite any cables that are submerged in the water, she could get electrocuted...
