But his offense was mostly dunks, put backs, bulldozing his way inside the basket. 10 to 15 fert away from the basket, he is harmless as a fly. 6:28 - This is the most honest & introspective take I've ever seen from Nick. Admitting you were late to noticing how good another player was, while also admitting you held Luka to a different standard takes humility. Now if only he could do the same for QBs in her NFL he was wrong about (Josh Allen/Brock Purdy) 😅
Jokic and Giannis' careers are so similar. If one is in the discussion then the other has to be. Jokic is better offensively, Giannis defensively. Giannis' offense is closer to Jokic's than Jokic's defense is to Giannis', but offense tends to be more important than defense. I'd take Jokic, but pretending it isn't close is stupid
You are correct. Giannis is closer on offence but offence is more important. Both of them healthy, its really close. However, you have to take availability into account. If Giannis isn't playing, he is giving 0 on offence and 0 on defense. And that creates a separation where there should be slim to none.
@@AnkitKumar-zr6fn True, his reliance on physicality does make injuries much more of a problem, and he's gotten hurt at bad times the last couple seasons. Giannis really needs a healthy postseason and another good run to stay in the conversation. I can't make myself put Luka in yet with no rings and no mvps, but the talent is there.
@@donpetazaragomatuta9988 We'll have to see if Giannis' injuries continue to be a problem or are just unlucky timing. He actually played more regular season games than Luka...but the regular season availability doesn't count for much lol
Giannis got destroyed in FIBA, when he didn't get the whistle. His lack of bag really hurts him when defense forces him to take shots that he doesn't make. That doesn't happen to Jokic.
Yep.. I think one underrated point was that Denver had a shot at the #1 seed.. they kinda choked it away and Jokic was a big part of that.. they might still be playing if they had grabbed the 1 seed.. Meanwhile, Luka navigated a lot throughout the season.. and turned in a lot of memorable and spectacular games, while going 34/9/10?? After Embiid went down, i thought Luka really separated himself
@@gbmbg114 how you gonna blame Jokic for “choking” away the 1st seed? The future GOAT Victor Wemby showed everyone a glimpse of his greatness. You can’t blame Jokic on that.
How are you surprised? You should know better, since you're from there! 🤣 Yugoslavia has a disproportionate number of great sportsmen, across sports, if you go by genes: Djokovic (tennis, most accomplished sportsman ever, in my opinion), Ibrahimovic, Modric (football), Doncic, Jokic, Popovic, Obradovic (basketball), Pogacar (cycling), Karabatic (handball), Perkovic (throws), Vlasic (high jump), WATER POLO. Even Sakic in ice hockey and Bellichick in American football! You'd have the best team in every sport, if you were united and had a population comparable to USA (~200 million).
Well there can't much discussion about it. Results, stats and attitude don't lie. NBA is by far the best League but in the last 15 years European basketball has step-up with it's own ecosystem, the way it views and adapts basketball, its practice and the way the game is/can be played. Ofc Jokic and Donkic talent is something special (far removed from most European players, and the Balkan region always produced great Basketball talents) but i do think that one of the best things to have ever happened to European basketball was the creation of EuroLeague and tbh the way FIBA has been handling all other competitions. It is not as grand as the NBA (and probably will never be) but it is a legit ecosystem and environment for people to become superstar players by their own right!
I hate the Giannis conversation. Brou is doing the entire "Who I saw play last time", you wanted Jokic to force the ball and shoot? then you dont want Jokic; Giannis is not skilled and that's why he lacks behind? Go tell that to Shaq 25 years ago. What are we saying? Giannis should be in that discussion, he is not a shooter and still gives you 30+ points a night and top 2 defense in the league, what good is having better shooting if it doesnt impact scoring? you can take him down a bit for it but his defense more than makes up for that. It's a triple tie, and it's so close that if Luka becomes the champ he deserves that title, just like Giannis did, just like Jokic did.
Don’t know why we’d bring that up in a discussion abt them heading to the finals/Luka potentially becoming the best player in the league but sure, it could’ve got a shoutout I guess
This is the first time Luka have a good team builded around him.And he's in the NBA finals.+Mavs didn't have the advantage of the home court in any of these series in this postseason. And stil, they've eliminated every team without playing game 7 in any of these series.Think about it.
I seriously can't stand the argument of Giannis not having the skillset of other guys. So what! He averages 30! And he just became the first person to do it on 60% shooting! Why is that not more eye popping for people?
Brou has gone through that several times. He believes Giannis can be stopped by building a defensive wall. Jokic and Luka cannot be stopped by a simple move like that, because they can shoot.
After Giannis recent leg injuries and also spending a season with Dame time I think he gonna be more focused on shooting the ball better, that would make him best player in the league hands down
@@danieltatum4262 Jokic is now playing better defense than Giannis, so Giannis would have to turn into Steph, if he wants to be hands down the best player.
Mavs had a pretty hard path to the finals. Celtics had one laced with opponents injuries. The Celtics need to prove themselves this year or no one will ever believe in them again
That's why Mavs will win. Mavs are battle tested against #4 #2 #1. Celtics played lower seeds with super stars out on every team. And Celtics play alot on 1v1. Dallas fixing to feast on D on time. Dallas in 6.

Jokic is definitely a better offensive player, I don’t think Nick’s categories did him justice for the floor spacing and versatility he provides. But for a ‘scoring’ category you kind of have to give the nod to the guy that actually scores more. The drop off in ppg from Giannis to Jokic was the same as the drop from Jokic to Cam Thomas this year
Luka is a great passer. Jokic is just better. Remember Jokic's usage rate is like barely top 20 but averages more assists. Scoring wise, I think Luka is more explosive and Jokic is clearly more efficient and inevitable. I'd give Luka the edge but saying Giannis is 2nd is just travesty.
The Mavericks have been favored in every series, though. It might be the 3rd toughest solely based on regular season wins, but let's be honest... this hasn't really been a gauntlet. The Thunder and Timberwolves especially exceeded expectations and didn't have the experience to go all the way. Plus, the Clippers didn't have Kawhi for pretty much the entire series... and even if they had him, Dallas still wins.
Jokic played better than Luka this playoffs. The only reason Luka is beat Minn and Jokic didn’t is because Kyrie was 27ppg on 50% and Jamal Murray was 19ppg on 40%. If Jamal Murray was on Dallas instead they f Kyrie Mavs get swept this series
His style of play is based on his athleticism and after he won hist 1st championship it went downhill for him. Recent years he wasnt even fit for the playoffs.
@@wilsonmatt781 You're not paraphrasing accurately. Brou said that despite of Giannis' better defense, Luka and Jokic are so much better on offense, that they are the superior players, overall.
I completely agree with Nick here... its clearly a 3 man race right now. Giannis is at 3, cause he didnt have any PO success lately, Luka at 1, because of PO success and one of the greatest statistical seasons ever. Can you name another 33/9/9 season in NBA history... I help you, you cant! Luka created the most points EVER (points + points of assists) in the NBA this season on top of that. Ad the injury riddled season the Mavs had (153 missed games by 15+ MPG rotation players, Denver 49, OKC 39) and how the team looked when healthy (Ended the Season on a 24-7 run... one game behind Boston in that timespan) and its clear as day who shouldve won MVP. The difference between those 3 going forward: Luka 25, Jokic 29, Giannis 29 So Luka should have the edge over the next 4-5 years. But I agree, at some point (if he stays healthy) Wemby will most likely take over. Will it be in 3 years, 5, dont know. But that dude is the only guy I can see winning 5 MVP's and 5 DPOY's over his career... like ever!
@@marcelschild931The argument was in 2000, Shaq had no accomplishments/accolades yet was in the conversation. Giannis is taken out of the conversation yet has them. My wording wasn’t clear
you have to factor in usage rate when you mention the stats jokic isnt even top 15 in usage and is putting up these number with that pace if he was to have same usage as luka he would average almost 40 and have 10+ assist while getting 13 rebounds. some reason people fail to mention that when talk jokics stats -___-
Thank you! This is even worse when mentioning Embiid, who was taking 39% (!!!) of his teams shots... ~6% clear of prime Jordan! (Not to mention the fact that Jokic seemingly doesn't get any free throws.)
Giannis has averaged more points than Jokic for 3 years, but Brou is saying "he can score more if he wanted" is disengenious. I can use that argument for literally anything.
Step and klay are not the best backcourt when you are comparing them to this. Luka is significantly better at every aspect of the game then curry besides shooting 3’s and its actually not even that far off because luka is far more clutch from the 3. Luka by himself is also better than klay in every aspect of the game besides shooting and man to man defense. Then I haven’t even mentioned kyrie.
Wemby is taking over for a very long time in the next two to 3 years…. It’s actually not even going to be close. Wemby will go down as the greatest of all time, as long as he stays healthy. And I’m a Lakers fan.
2-3?? Chill. Leading the Spurs to dead last isn’t doing anything and calling him the Goat?? Relax. Wemby will be great, but he is not above any top 10’player at all
Only thing about that list is the game is way different now and only offense. I would like to see the old stats adjusted to how the game is played now and then see
They disrespect Kobe every chance they get. 10:30 Chris Broussard mentions magic, bird, Jordan, shaq, Duncan, lebron ....leaves Kobe out of the conversation. I honestly think there's a concerted effort to wipe Kobe from NBA history.
Stop being so dramatic, Kobe earned his spot in NBA history and everyone knows it and always will, nobody is trying to wipe him from NBA history you cry baby. Brou just clearly couldn’t get to Kobe’s name in his head, he was trying to quickly name guys. A simple, small mistake. Get over it.
This is the second time I have heard brousard use the argument that jokic is a better defender than luka cuz of his size. I think his size is exactly why he is a worse defender cuz he plays the 5(most important defensive position arguably) and is bad at it and imo if you are a bad defensive center you are more a liability than a bad defensive guard cuz you are supposed to defend the most valuable shot which is a shot at the rim.
Ask Denver are they crazy bcs pay him so much if he not good he will be on bench he is better defender then Luka no question but most don't see how he play defence in offense nobody can come close to him
@@Dr._is_sleepy AG is exactly that. I am talking about in general. So lets say he played with KG. Does that make him a good defender cuz KG can hide him better.
Is Nick really saying he was early on Luka? Man Luka came into the league with HUGE expectations. If your ever looking for a best ever just watch one of these shows you'll get a new one every time.
There's was 4 year stretch where Shaq was the best, then a few years later Kobe had 4 years or so as the best player. The years in between those two reigns as the greatest player were between Shaq/Tuncan/KG and then eventually Kobe came up the list and then surpassed them all.
He’s also disrespectful and arrogant as he said “nothing” when asked what he could learn or build upon from this series ending loss. Didn’t even shake hands. He’s the AAU kid nobody likes
I kinda agree with both Nick and Brou. Denver slipped hard this year, but in the upcoming years it's going to be Luka vs Joker cinema WCFs. And whoever makes it out of the East.
54:45-- Kevin, that's a great comment. Luka got an advantage this season with the additions the mavs got: Lively, Gafford, Washington. I could tell he could trust his teammates to follow up on good plays that he could create. At the same time, he could take a break every now and then because the Mavs got Irving at the right moment in his career(maturity wise). Brunson was great, but he wanted to "lead" more than to get a championship. I was skeptical about Irving, but im glad I was wrong.
Why do people keep calling the Wolves the number 1 defense in the league. That was true for most of the season, but since the Mavs recent addition, they have actually been a better defensive team than the Wolves.
It's still Joker rn. Let's try a scenario...switch Kyrie and Jamal Murray. If it was Luka and Jamal, there is no finals appearance for the Mavs. If it was Joker and Kyrie, then we'd be seeing that Denver dynasty.

I think giannis have really slow down too much in the last 2 years he needs to bring the physical game back
@@AnkitKumar-zr6fn True, his reliance on physicality does make injuries much more of a problem, and he's gotten hurt at bad times the last couple seasons.
Luka should have won MVP. He was the best player, his team still won 50+ games, jokic had a better team and won the individual award.
Kyrie is better than anyone on Den outside of Jokic
I feeel like either Luka or Jalen Brunson or SGA shoulda won
After Embiid went down, i thought Luka really separated himself

when i hear that best two NBA players are Jokic and Donkic i cant believe what am hearing greetings from Balkans
What’s really cool is Giannis is Greek. So the league’s top 3 are from the Balkans.

Brou has gone through that several times. He believes Giannis can be stopped by building a defensive wall. Jokic and Luka cannot be stopped by a simple move like that, because they can shoot.

Jokic is definitely a better offensive player, I don’t think Nick’s categories did him justice for the floor spacing and versatility he provides. But for a ‘scoring’ category you kind of have to give the nod to the guy that actually scores more. Brou tripping. Yes Giannis can't shoot so did Shaq and that didn't stop him from being the best in the league.

The difference between those 3 going forward: Luka 25, Jokic 29, Giannis 29
So Luka should have the edge over the next 4-5 years. But I agree, at some point (if he stays healthy) Wemby will most likely take over. Will it be in 3 years, 5, dont know. But that dude is the only guy I can see winning 5 MVP's and 5 DPOY's over his career... like ever!
