Brilliant rendition! I am Terry, The TAZ, one of the Vara-tones. This song written, by our leader, Bill Epps, has always been one of our favorites. Tom, you've done a beautiful transcription and superb performance.
this solo deserves a place in the pantheon of rock guitar. perfect mix of blues and spanish guitar. respect to Vara-tones (I don't know the name of the guitarist) and Tom Conlon
What an incredible interpretation. This looks like one of the harder songs to play, but you really nailed it. This will be my next song to learn. Thanks for posting!
Never heard the song before, but exactly up my street ! Spanish Spaghetti Western inspired minor key goodness 😎🤠 soaked in reverb 🎸 Top Dollar playing as always 👏🏻
It doesn't get any better than this! My goodness, your playing is flawless! Think I'm not capable of achieving this tune I fear! Might try! So precious! Thanks!!
HOW DOES HE DO IT TIME AFTER TIME!!! ABSOLUTELY BRILLANT!!! INCLUDING THE CHOICE OF THE MAPLE NECK TO ADD THE CALLED FOR TONE SHARPNESS------WOW---THANK YOU TOM CONLON!!!!!!!
Wow ! a great tune by the Vera-Tones I have both of their CD's This is one of my favorites, Thanks for doing it. I've been a fan of the Vera-Tones and the Torquays for years.
Another excellent surf cover, you make it look so easy! Wish I had your natural talent, I’ve been a slightly frustrated surf guitarist since the late sixties but you have given me hope. I supplemented my income on weekends as a fairly descent bass player in various country bands but have always loved surf music. Thank you!
I absolutely love your arrangements and although it would take me a lifetime to master, I appreciate being able to try. I am not into shredding and love your arrangement of the classics. Please keep me inspired.
Great job on this song Tom. I'd never heard it before and I'd never heard of the Vara-Tones. I listened to and downloaded the original song by the Vara-Tones and you really nailed it! I've listened to the song several times now and it's really growing on me. Thanks for presenting this gem from the past and making me aware of its existence and the existence of The Vara-Tones. They have apparently gotten back together after over 36 years ago when they first got together.
Great work Tom. The song is aptly named after the neighborhood in LA where the band members got their start. I sent your video to them via Facebook. Update: Reply on Facebook by the Vara-Tones: “Very accurate cover, impressive work! Thank you for the link Richard.”
Awesome as always, man! Really diggin' the cool tiki shirt too. And thank you for introducing me to such a great song. I'll have to check out The Vara-Tones for sure. It really is a treat to have someone such as yourself giving us tabs and killer performances of all of these amazing songs you do. Thank you so much! Take care, brother.
Wow, Tom, that is fabulous! I have never heard this song, but I am going to look up the original. It's a great one. You sound really good on a Stratocaster, too!
@@tomcon21 Oh, I thought you only had to play it a couple of times to learn play all these songs! Gave me some hope! Still working on Guitar Boogie Shuffle, Because and Secret Agent Man. I have finally nailed Unchained Melody and the much easier songs of Sleepwalk, Summer Place and Runaway (my favorite). I will need to add this very pretty version of El Sereno to my forever list of your songs. Now, where is my Strat! :)
Hey man I love all that you do! By request would love to see you take on some Martin Cilia, maybe 'Reef Break'? As he's commonly regarded as the greatest modern-era lead Surf Guitarist and I know you do a lot of great Instro stuff. All the Best mate

You make those double stops look effortless, when they're actually extremely difficult to play. Always impressed by your playing. Great tune.
Atlast! Atlast! someone are doing covers from The Vara Tones from the album Jetty Subject To High Surf. Keep them comming! :-D Thumps up.
I adore this song, I think 2:38 is my favourite part. Another great from the Vara-Tones is surf-blaster, partly for that drum intro
What an incredible interpretation. This looks like one of the harder songs to play, but you really nailed it. This will be my next song to learn. Thanks for posting!

Awesome playing of a track by one of the greatest bands ever, from one of the best surf albums ever made. Please do 'The Jetty' from the same album.
Absolutely fabulous rendition of what is probably the Vara-tones' most beautiful tune. Congratulations, Tom!

Thank you! I didn’t know it either. It came up one time in Apple Music and immediately caught my ear.
Great rendition, as usual. Is it possible to get a copy of the tab you display in the video?
Amazoning song and playing. Could you make Surfblaster from that album?
Incredible playing, sir !
how to play lead and RHY in one , check out Tom's El Sereno (great track man)
Very nice 👍
thank you for this superb lesson-interpretation
just a question who is the illustrious unknown soloist of the Vara-Tones?
Genial, ojalá pudieras hacer "ella" de Sr bikini
Wow!
Love the song and the Strat. Have you played that Strat here on your channel before? I can only remember the Jazzmaster.
I’ve used the Strat and a Tele here and there recently. If you go far back, I also use an Epiphone Casino and some other models I don’t have anymore!
Superbe je kiffe
Also no ones yet done a reputable version of the Doo Wop classic 'Earth Angel' by The Penguins and I'm sure you'd do the best cover of that
great job! :) and wonderful tone..what effects are you using on this one beside reverb?
How do you manage to memorize all of these notes and phrases? Envious of course!! Will try my best to play this. Thank you Tom, love it.
Thanks, I spend a lot of time playing it over and over.

Quote (maybe Bernard Shaw?)
a man to a virtuoso pianist: "I will give my life to play like you" the pianist "that's what I did"
Thanks Tom
hey Tom, could you do In The Hall Of The Mountain King next? the Who did a cover of that song and I'd love to hear your interpretation.
Hey man I love all that you do! By request would love to see you take on some Martin Cilia, maybe 'Reef Break'? As he's commonly regarded as the greatest modern-era lead Surf Guitarist and I know you do a lot of great Instro stuff. All the Best mate
I admit Martin is an awesome guitarist but I did not care for his tones and I thought he tried to “rock” it up to much
Very good job!
so good! which stratocaster 's model is this?
El Sereno Runaway a new branch of Surf Music :"Flamensurf"
Do you have a BT please? Julien
What pedals or post production did you use for the reverb?!? 😍
Oh let me add this, your Strat has quite the killer King Tone. What is its' age?
2012
@@tomcon21 It sounds fantastic!
Which Guitar effect you use?
👍
Ridiculously tasty.
I don't know if you've answered this but you have such a pretty Reverb what pedal are you using?
I’m using the reverb in the amp simulator software in Logic Pro.
+1 I think every guitar player likes this info! Perhaps add some affiliate links to the pedals in the section with the other links?
@@tomcon21 awee ok it's such a good surf reverb. Hard to get such a good classic tone
