This time I went for a relatively new performance. I hope you will like my choice, especially since it also includes Il Divo. Thanks for introducing me to Marcelito Pomoy @macariooliver2036, @karenjayne24, @WinstonGoc-ong, @alexmazo3572, @thomasberwick3082 and @WineSippingCowboy. ❤❤❤

Nice, Aleks. It made me happy to see Marcelito in this company. Like I said in your previous reaction to him, I was afraid that he would simply disappear. Given his exceptional talent, that would be a total tragedy I think. Hopefully he'll be able to claw his way in and strike some good deals. Il Divo is an amazing group, I did listen to them quite a bit back in the days. I guess time will show how things turn out for Marcelito 🙂 Love from Norway ♥♥♥♥♥

It did happen to many other singers, who had their 5 minutes of fame and then just disappeared into the sunset. I hope he gets what he wants, whatever that may be. He seems like a nice guy and this was indeed great company to sing in. Love to Norway! ❤❤❤

I like Il Divo, I ran across them when I had my "opera phase" 🤣 and was searching for covers of songs that I liked. No, I still love Opera, but I can't say I listen to it all the time. With the right songs and the right singers, it is absolutely stunning. Marcelito, he's great, but I I'm not a fanboy haha. I'm repeating myself, but great reaction again. Thank you.

Quite a few people share your view on Marcelito, so I get it. I'm not really sure what I think yet, except that he does have a pleasant voice and seemingly equally pleasant personality. Also, this collaboration tickled my fancy, so I was like "why not?" The performance was cute, but I'm not sure I would call it amazing. Definitely good and rather sweet. 😊

My memory of this song is towards the end of West Side Story. Lucy Thomas does a wonderful rendition of this as well (of course). This was such a wonderful mix of voices and a treat to wake up to. Thank you Aleks.

Thank you, Jairo! I don't think I've ever heard this song before, but it might be because I never really watched West Side Story. Maybe as a kid, in bits and pieces... I did enjoy this performance and to me it's mostly cute/sweet.

@@AleksReacts I've always had a soft spot for musicals and as those who know me well I am a bit of a music nerd as I know a lot of the words to songs from Oklahoma and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers to mention a few. So many movies and even Big Band music from before I was born that I so enjoy.

    • @AleksReacts
      @AleksReacts  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I watched the ones with Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly. Not many of the newer ones, though I understand the charm a good musical may have. 😉

@@AleksReacts Lol, so we have now to put up Lucy Thomas vs. Tom Waits on this song, perhaps someone could do a mashup...? I can't imagine a bigger contrast between two visions and arrangements and deliveries of one and the same song, yet both are very beautiful in their own way. It's the same song and it's not the same song at all and still both versions do it justice (not sure if this one did, but it was nice anyway...) Peace out!

Marcelito belongs to the category of "special vocal cords," alongside Dimash, Zhou Shen, Vitas, Pitta, Liao Jialin, Li Yu Gang, Huo Zun, and a few others who would be more readily described as male sopranos than countertenors. Like Pitta (whose real name is Kang Hyung Ho, soprano of the Korean band Forestella), Marcelito stands out from other freaks of nature, as you know, by having no formal training in singing, let alone opera. He was even homeless for quite a while (whereas Pitta was a chemist). All roads lead to Rome. That said, through his exceptional kindness, Marcelito is more akin to Zhou Shen, who is equally charming and full of humor.
Marcelito, as you might have noticed, is Filipino. And the Philippines is truly unique when it comes to singers. While in Europe, parents aspire for their children to become engineers... with only slight exaggeration, in the Philippines it's "singer you shall be, my child !" (more generally, "my daughter"). And that is why, in any department store, you will find karaoke stations inviting six or seven-year-olds to deliver astonishing vocal performances to the crowd. Nearly all major stars began their stage careers between the ages of seven and ten. Needless to say, by adulthood… they are beasts !
Here, for example, is little eight-year-old Esang (now 17) performing that very “Somewhere”: th-cam.com/video/cwMTocOY2B0/w-d-xo.html
So who are these great stars among whom Marcelito has recently arrived ?...
From the older generation, we have :
    Lea Salonga: th-cam.com/video/cwB3Zxh2gSE/w-d-xo.html
    Gary Valenciano: th-cam.com/video/lPnCgSN3M6Q/w-d-xo.html
    Regine Velasquez: th-cam.com/video/qzwOFxiHLFU/w-d-xo.html

    Gigi de Lana: th-cam.com/video/9pcCdBVDKak/w-d-xo.html

Somehow, his personality shines through in his smile at the end of each song I've heard. You're not the first to tell me that Philippines is truly unique when it comes to singing as a career - I find that so strange, as most parents worry it's not a secure life. Glad that it doesn't hinder the Filipino parents and children from doing what they love. ❤❤❤

@@AleksReacts It is a very poor country, and professional opportunities are limited. As such, achieving success in the music industry often seems like a dream more easily within reach than becoming a classic figure of note.

@@AleksReacts Again an amazing comment from our "East Asian" friend, thanks mate! A very good survey of relevant Pinoy artists, as far as I can tell. The only one I haven't heard is Esang at 8 singing Somewhere, so that's what I'll do right now... Peace out my friend!

Hey Aleks, I know Marcelito, but don't Know this performance or who is Il Divo... The song is from Bernstein's West Side Story, Tom Waits has a very different cover of it on one of his albums, and I may say it's not boring as well... lol... I think that's it for today from my side - Marcelito is amazing for sure...

    • @AleksReacts

I think I like Marcelito mainly due to his frequent smiles and his personality coming through in all his performances. This one is not an exception and Il Divo were great hosts, too. 😊 I just had to check when Il Divo was formed and it was in 2003, believe it or not. I've heard them before, just wasn't enthralled by them. Still, I did enjoy this performance, quite sweet IMO.

Unexpected collaboration... I was once a fan of Il Divo, when they just started, I was at several of their concerts. Memories to last a lifetime! They are all musicians with serious background. They performed with Celine Dion, Toni Braxton, Barbra Streisand. Sorry, but I don't take Marcelito seriously...He's a lovely guy, but that's it.😊

I hadn't really paid attention to Il Divo - it seemed to me a bit like pop opera, but this is the first time I actually focused. It IS pop opera in a way, but they're great! I totally understand your view on Marcelito, but I'm hoping his entrance into the music world will help him mold himself into more than a person with several voices. His voice is pleasant, so hopefully technique will improve and he'll be able to become more than a guy who had his 15 minutes in the spotlight. Like you, I believe he seems to be a sweet guy. 😊

You might think Marcelito Pomoy is just a nice boy, and that's partly true. However, do not forget something. There aren't many talented singers in the world who have the same qualities, even if Pomoy hasn't completed the same quality training as members of EL DIVO! No one disputes the quality of the singers at EL DIVO, but Pomoy's talent makes him fit perfectly into the artistic level of the artists you promote!

@@kukubenko2022 One can challenge any opinion, it's a matter of taste. Marcelito is certainly a gem, he can perfectly imitate 2 voices. But technically, emotionally and artistically there exists another level. For me, this is, for example, Dimash (or Lara, Angelina ..). He/they doesn’t just sing, but creates an image, a character in every song, no matter in what range. It's kind of inner world of music.
