He explained a Kick-Return-Trick with the words "it doesn´t affect the volume". He looks at the track-volume and not at the master-volume, while he explained. The kick get´s 4dB louder with the "trick" in the master-section and people think it is better, cause it only get´s louder and a little bit more compressed and high-cutted
Surprised he worked that entire time with the epic phasing issues from the reverb on the return track not being set to 100% wet. Other than that, interesting workflow setting the midi notes short and controlling the release. I thought that was pretty cool. Keep it up dood.
Best tutorial on drums I've seen on TH-cam, been getting my head in a right pickle trying to get it sound right, but this has shown me exactly what I needed thank you a lot haha!
Picked up a few nice tips there , the one on using a compressor for the automation on the snare volume was good. But you can always use the utility on something that's been automated to turn it up or down ... Think I'll be using Max's tip from now on , cheers mate 👍
Is that kick trick to make it fatter like parallel compression? Or what? I use reason and i'm trying to figure out how to do it in reason... i'm drunk right now too so i feel like i'm misunderstanding this haha
It makes me happy that he said the exact same shit I say to myself every fucking time 😂 I'm on my way. Even if I can make my own grooves it just mixing that little bit better
Reverb on return tracks should be %100 wet. And adjust the amount from the send knob of the applied track. Otherwise you double the dry signal on the return track which as here can cause phasey sound.
very nice sound! I think if you use classic ADSR mode the length of the midi notes does not control anything so does not mind if they are sort or long.
can anyone explain to me what he means by open up a return track 1:45 has he just put them affects on the channel for the kick or that return one? would help me out if you can, niceone
Select an area to the length you want then hit Ctrl Shift m on a pc and i thiiiink its cmd shift m on a mac? It will speed up your workflow a wee bit m8.
Mine too. I really don't get how a lot of producers have their screens up there. It's non-ergonomic af. I understand people want some controllers, but not all the bulky gear that may go somewhere else just as well. (Maybe even above the screen.)
Nice tutorial, but why should i subscribe to an monthly abo, and a few weeks later the same tutorial is on youtube for free to visit for all??! Sry, but there is no special content for monthly subscribers...?!?
pretty sure all the videos on youtube are cut short (in half or less). with the mag you get the entire masterclass or tutorial. that's how computer music mag does it to.
Why didn't you put your display on the ceiling?
just looking for some comment like this, and... first one
Hahaha
uuuuu hahhahahhahah exactly what I thought
In my opinion, this is one of the best tutorials for tech house groove so far. Would definitely appreciate more from Max!
great tutorial! would of been nice to see a full track or how he does his basslines
did you guys put the mic in his nose?
its techno dust
would've been nice to see how he makes his basslines
we can wait for DIMISH OR DJOKO to show us that since they sound the same
Instablaster.

Cut and dry. You've shared something special here. A template for creating. Probably the most useful video regarding groove, ableton, and techno.
Max was in few of my classes at school mad to see how he has done since school
Great stuff from one of the best groovers in the game!

13 mins in and ive already learned a ton!
I'm so happy I found this! There are many techniques I've not seen before. Thanks!
Surprised he worked that entire time with the epic phasing issues from the reverb on the return track not being set to 100% wet.

Probably phasing as he's mic'd up, so you've got a blend of signals.
BREX aaaah it was the snares phasing not the hats
Snares for sure, but it was anything going thru Send B since it wasn't set to 100%.
I have literally watched this video TEN times. So helpful. Thanks Max!
😂

everything is generic in regards to layout for the most part, he's not going to give away his sound. that's up to you as a producer to develop.
Great tip on automating the volume on the compressor in the effects chain rather than on the track itself, so you can still mix it down later.
this is awesome.. im back everytime to keep learning from this!!! max chapman u are a monster
Great video, still two years later, Thank you
Wicked tutorial mate, good to have someone who isn't too serious about stuff and just enjoys making sound. Safe man
Road To Recovery you're from UK and you're poor. I can tell.
Thanks? Not sure what you meant by that.

All of the best music is formulaic.
