I'm sure the fall of 50+ feet of solid steel has a force of WELL over 1000 lbs.. did you even watch the video? The amount of damage was not caused by 200 lbs crushing on a car.
I'm wondering why the worker is cutting the Whip Line on the asphalt, when he could just remove the U-Bolt clamp, unpin the Beckett, tap it on the ground and pull the line free. Then he could pull the line back through the point sheave. It has to be removed from the jib anyway, so they can remove the jib from the car.
All hazards should have been identified at the pre-lift meeting, including the hazard area around the crane. If that area included the street next to the work site, then the sidewalk and lanes affected should have been closed before a lift was attempted. I am guessing the operator picked a load with the main block above ground level, or over a drop off and was unable to set it back down fast enough. He might have forgot to add the effective weight of the erected jib to his load also.
your guess would be wrong, but estute. The operator decided to drive over mud, without putting out anything to secure the ground causing the crane to slip. I detailed the steel on that job, so we had direct knowledge from the GC.
In the USA we have a national crane license all operators must aquire before becoming a qualified operator. Hopefully all the other nations will adopt these regulations. This accident could have been avoided if the operator was properly trained and adhered to the crane safety regulations.
I can just imagine the conversation with his insurance agent: Guy: I'd like to report a claim Agent: Ok, what happened Guy: A crane fell on my car Agent: ..... Guy: It's on TH-cam!
"thousands of pounds of steel removed from the street and thousands of pounds of shit removed from the drivers pants. but not all is lost a nice hefty lawsuit as a consolation prize."
I was only sying the crane operater should of warned of his plan to do this If they did they could close the road so the road could be closed so this would not of hapened. the person in the car could of been hurt or killed you know.
Here is the problem The crane operater says nothingf to warn this was planned If he did the police should of closed the road. was the stupid wacko in the crane fired and arrested.
the lumina sure held up well considering a cran fell on it granted though its still a total loss
Wonder how the insurance claim call went with that one. "A construction crane fell on my car today."
Someone brought this up on my Facebook page since it's in my area. Never seen the footage till now.
Wow, thank god nobody was in the back seat!
There was one very lucky woman. That crane missed her by inches.
The crane's insurance company was responsible for that one.

This was my grandmother that was in the car. And BTW KeyserSoseRulz don't talk about her car when she could've been killed.
