if you go back and listen to the song debut from glastonbury 2021 thom yorke is a little late to come in with the bass during the first breakdown section. was always confused at the timing of that section in particular and always thought it was something weird jonny greenwood was doing? took me a while to realize it was actually the bass throwing me off lol.

I remember one from a myxomatosis interpretation where they stop for a fainted fan, security gets the fan to safety and then thom says something like “third verse, one two three” and they keep playing as if nothing had ever happened, it’s an amazing performance by amazing musicians!

This is what makes them so great: Went on to become one of the biggest bands in the world but at heart still (well, with Thom and Johnny at least part of) a bunch of musically self-taught school kids that sometimes trip over their own wonderfully intricate compositions.

Follow the drums. The guitar is playing in 3/4 over a 4/4 drum beat. That’s why in the end when the drums switch to 3/4 it all comes together😉. Miss when Radiohead had challenging weird time meters. This album is amazing.

@@DanielRed2 well if you wanna get really technical, if you hear what Jonny’s doing without delay effects, he’s plucking three notes per measure. The delay just dryly repeats each single guitar note, which is why he mutes with his picking hand after each strike.
      But it’s 3/4.
The drums, if isolated, would work if you played a 4/4 riff over them. For the most part outside of the end, and the moment you reference, so you COULD argue the drums are technically playing a 6/8, but they’re most definitely not playing a 3/4, at least not till the end when they sync.
(Sorry I was forced into music theory school by my parents when I was nine I can’t help it). If it was 3/4 all the way through as you contend when the drums DO go into 3/4 time at the end it wouldn’t sound like the drums and guitar suddenly synced up🤷🏻‍♂️ if that makes sense.

I must admit, Thom doesn't seem to be enjoying this one much anymore. You can tell by the way he sings it. He is kinda half singing it and half of this sounds phoned in. Like he has just sung it too much and needs to take a break from it. But they kinda can't because it's one of the main ones. MAYBE it's just because they only have one album of material so songs get old much faster vs being able to switch songs in and out. Just comparing this to when he FIRST SUNG IT that I think Summer of 2021, it was sung with passion and the guitar part even sounded passionate. Here it is just like "It's a song we need to slog thru"
