Contrary to a belief I have heard a lot on TH-cam, St Therese of Lisieux did not "invent" the use of sliding rosary beads to count good deeds or acts of self-denial. It was a widespread practice in France during the 19th century, taught to children who attended parochial schools. St Therese's older sisters Pauline and Marie learned about them at the boarding school in Le Mans where their aunt was a nun and teacher, and they taught Therese. Later when Therese was in Carmel, she returned to using these sliding beads to help a new novice learn proper monastic behaviour like keeping your eyes down at meals, not talking unnecessarily, and being kind and compassionate to difficult sisters.
Beautiful...I'm a catchist and will be doing this project with the students... its a beautiful way to show the the impact of the Rosary and share with others...thank you 😊 💓 Where did you get the medallions & crosses?
So sorry I haven't replied, my mother passed away and I am not back with things. I make a lot of my rosary purchases from OLRM Our Ladies Rosary Makers, they are reasonable, thank you!
OLRM Our Lady Rosary Makers, be careful on the sizes, I prefer the 1 1/4 and 1 1/2, they have a lot and the pics aren't great, but you may also like the large ones, thank you.
Planning to use your tutorial to make 40 pocket rosaries for kindergarteners and first graders who are learning to pray the rosary. Since they have little hands, I’m hoping to use larger beads (12mm perhaps). What is the size of your beads and gauge of your bonded cord? Thanks in advance!
I like to use wooden beads about 6 to 8 mm I did a class for the little ones at St Andrews school and the knot was what took time You will need helpers, thanks for watching my video!
I use a bonded cord that I order from OLRM rosary makers, it comes in all different colors, thank you you can also use nylon just something that slides the beads
It has many names. It's also called a "sacrifice rosary" or a "good deed rosary". The idea is that you can slide a bead along for each time you do something for others or deny yourself. After my first confession (last month!) the priest gave me "an act of charity" as my penance. I remembered the "good deed beads" and got a set.
Thank you so much! I just converted and this video was perfect for me! God Bless! :)
You're welcome!
I really like the fact that the beads can slide. Can count off, similar to ranger beads that are used for step counting while hiking.
Thanks!
Love it! Gonna use this tutorial to teach the kids in Sunday school!
